Biden Signals Willingness To Step Down After One Term IF the GOP Dumps Trump

Joe Biden said today that if Trump wasnt running he might not be running in 2024.

Biden is asking the GOP to do the right thing and dump Trump. If that were to happen the impetus for Biden to step down might multiply, and he would likely do it.

For all of those who ask, every day it seems, why Biden wont quit, he has put the shoe on the other foot.  Get rid of Trump and you might get your wish.

President   Joe Biden   told donors in Boston on Tuesday that he might not be running for reelection had   Donald Trump   not entered the race.

“If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running,” Biden said, according to reporters present at the event. “But we cannot let him win.”

Throw Trump under the bus asap , then Biden will step back and the nation can begin to move on.

Its on the Republicans.

There is a big difference between "I won't" and "I am not sure" And there is a decent chance Joe will forget he ever said it and the WH will spin how his words were taken out of context.

What I find interesting is that the majority of dems would rather not see him run yet they have no one they feel better to beat Trump.  Or at least they can't agree who the nominee should be.

I wish they would both quit.  Trump wont though because he's terrified he will end up in prison if he quits the race.

I agree, Trump will not quit because the campaign and (worse) winning the presidency is his best shot at dealing with his indictments.

He has to be forced out.

And, as you note, this is totally within the power of the GOP electorate.   Do not vote for Trump in the primary and he will not be the nominee.

I have no expectation that the MAGA supporters will do anything but vote for Trump.   There is no reasoning with anyone who, given all we know, would want Trump as their nominee.

I, sadly, believe the gop will nominate Trump again and so President Biden must beat him badly, again. I also believe that Joe Biden will go down in history similarly to how Harry Truman has, as an unlikely but timely hero who stepped into the breach to lead the US and the world against both Putin's Russian aggression and fundamentalist extremism and economically post Covid. So, God Bless the United States and Our President going into 2024!

How many from those groups do you think will be voting in gop primaries? Which is what I was talking about, and you know it!

I expect larger than expected turnouts will repudiate Trumpism!

In the general election...

I agree that we will likely have to choose between Biden and Trump again.   It is not inevitable, but it looks more so each day.

Trump has a realistic chance to win this thing.   I think that ultimately the USA electorate will not elect a demonstrated traitor to the presidency so in spite of the polls, I think Biden will prevail.   If not, my waning respect for the electorate will hit rock bottom.

I think the Ds have much stronger candidates who could ensure that Trump does not win.   This notion of going with the incumbent no matter what is a bad strategy.   But there seems to be no way to get the D machine onto a different, smarter track.

Attitudes like that enable Trump IMO. The Democrats are united behind President Biden. You are not a Democrat and I get that...

Perhaps if the Democrats would just nominate Nicki Haley?

All of the other Democrats who ran in 2020 endorsed Joe...

They will again. In the end you will vote for President Biden.

Why is it up to the Democrats to save the country? Are the rank and file Republicans that far gone out of their freaking minds ?

Dump Trump and then Biden sounds willing to step down. Why should Biden step down first? Trump is the traitor in this scenario.

Instead of Biden?

Plus, Haley isn't a Democrat, so she would be excluded from ballots.

Hardly seems likely, especially when Joe is the ONLY Democrat on the ballot in Florida.

I think that is what is commonly referred to as a lock--what else could it be when you are the ONLY candidate?

In 2024, both parties have put forth poor candidates.   And it is within the control of these parties to do better.

When I speak of what the Ds can do, that does not mean they are the only party who can take action.

Further, you are quite aware that I consider the biggest problem to be that caused by the GOP insisting to nominate a traitor.

Dump Trump and then Biden sounds willing to step down. Why should Biden step down first? Trump is the traitor in this scenario.

I personally do not care how this problem is solved.   If Biden steps aside and allows a better candidate to be nominated then that might actually be a person many of us could vote FOR.   The end result is a D presidency with an individual who is not a perpetual liability due to an extraordinarily advanced age for a sitting PotUS.

And if Trump does not win the nomination, we actually have a chance for the GOP to start healing itself and maybe establish a better direction under new leadership.

They are both way too old.   IMO, a job as demanding as the presidency should be held by competent individuals between 45 and 65 years of age (give or take).

But in Biden's case, age is his major negative factor.   In Trump's case, his age (and health) pales in comparison to his substantial negatives.

How does that go over

How does what go over?  I don’t remind my bosses of the he flak Biden is getting from Dems on this.

As I have said before, I flat out out refuse to vote for either Trump nor Biden as neither one deserves or is fit for a second term. I will vote third party like I have before. I know it does not mean much in the grand scheme of things and I am just a miniscule cog in a huge machine but I will at least have the satisfaction of knowing I did the right thing in my own heart and my conscience will be clear.

I fully understand.   Neither Trump nor Biden should be PotUS.   Our political system is malfunctioning.

I would like to vote FOR someone, but given Trump seems to have a shot at the presidency, I will be forced to use my vote the most effective way against him and that is to vote for whoever is the D nominee.

If Trump is not the GOP nominee, then the GOP will likely have my vote.

I could accept her, reluctantly, as president, but I would never vote for her. She is still loyal to Trump in every way except that she would rather be president, and is somewhat of an extremist hawk on international affairs. I've even seen on social media conservatives say they cant support her because she might get us into wars.

Unfortunately, we do not have candidates like Chris Sununu and Tim Walz to choose from so there are aspects we must overlook.

Right now, I would be elated to have a choice other than Biden v Trump.

You are surprised, IMO, because you routinely fail to objectively interpret what I write.

I have been quite clear on my positions in this forum.   I have explained my positions directly to you on many occasions.    You, however, keep insisting that I am a D / liberal / progressive / whatever and in particular think I am a Hillary supporter.

Not sure that anyone in this forum has been more wrong about my positions than you, IMO.

So, yeah, you are surprised.
