A woman and her three daughters were killed Sunday in a domestic-related shooting in suburban Tinley Park, officials say.
Officers responded about 11:20 a.m. to a home in the 7400 block of 173rd Place after a male called 911 to report a person shot, Tinley Park Village Manager Pat Carr told reporters at the scene.
Three women in their 20s and their mother were found fatally shot inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene, Carr said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified them as Majeda Kassem, 53; Halema Kassem, 25; Hanan Kassem, 24; and Zahia Kassem, 25.
A neighbor said five people lived in the home and that her daughter knew a couple of the residents, who she described as having a bright future.
Carr said a man was taken into custody at the scene, and a weapon was recovered. It wasn't immediately clear if he was the same person who called 911.
Residents have been asked to stay away from the area, but Carr described the incident as "isolated" to the home and said there was no threat to the public.
Charlotte Vaitkus, who lives about a block away from the home where the women were found, said the whole neighborhood was in shock.
"We don't see this kind of stuff," she said.
Vaitkus said a family of at least five people lived at the home, adding that her daughter knew a couple of the women very well.
"She always talked about how they were all very intelligent and had very high goals in life, like being a pharmacist and a doctor," Vaitkus said. "They had a bright future."
Investigators are on the scene Sunday in Tinley Park where four women were found shot to death in a domestic-related incident, according to officials in the south suburban village.

Tinley Park is a respectable middle class suburb of Chicago, in fact about 15 years ago a national magazine named it the "best place to live in America".
Stories like this point out the danger of having a gun in the house. A domestic dispute among otherwise normal people can end with 4 people dead. The police say there was no previous issue with domestic violence at this location.
Muslim honor killing.
Things have changed since it was “the best place to live in America. Can only have so many mass shootings and hope to retain that reputation. In the last few years there has been another honor killing, a race riot at the local high school, a flash mob reeking havoc at the local carnival, BLM looting during 2020 and a general surge in crime. I have family who lived about a mile from the shooting who left because they no longer felt safe.
lol. The police chief was on tv this morning and said that Tinley Park had one homicide all of last year.
That’s not exactly low.
Big cities like New York, LA and Boston are lower than that based on 2022 data
