James Carville, the Democratic political strategist who led Bill Clinton to victory in the 1990s, claimed "too many preachy females" in the party may be to blame for turning voters off to Joe Biden.

Carville spoke with Maureen Dowd for an opinion piece in The New York Times, "James Carville, the Cajun Who Can't Stop Ragin'."

"A suspicion of mine is that there are too many preachy females" dominating the culture of the Democratic Party, Carville told Dowd. "'Don't drink beer. Don't watch football. Don't eat hamburgers. This is not good for you.' The message is too feminine: 'Everything you're doing is destroying the planet. You've got to eat your peas.'

"If you listen to Democratic elites — NPR is my go-to place for that — the whole talk is about how women, and women of color, are going to decide this election. I'm like: 'Well, 48 percent of the people that vote are males. Do you mind if they have some consideration?'"

Carville has long spoken out against liberal elites who enjoy feeling "superior" to conservatives. Dowd wrote:

Carville has been sounding an alarm about progressives getting too censorious since he advised Hillary Clinton in 2016. He disparaged liberals' snooty, elitist "faculty lounge" attitudes long before he blew off the faculty lounge himself. He complained that "woke stuff is killing us," that the left was talking in a language that ordinary Americans did not understand, using terms like "Latinx" and "communities of color," and with a tone many Americans found sneering, as in Hillary's infamous phrase "basket of deplorables."

The Democratic strategist offered up a solution for Democrats trying to attract Trump voters in 2024:

"If you say, 'You dumb son of a bitch, how can you ever think that this fat, slimy, rapist, criminal, racist should be president?' they're going to recoil," he said. "I think Democrats should say: 'Look, you believed in him. You felt like you weren't being seen, you were being culturally excluded. But he betrayed you. You thought he was going to be for you and helping you, but he was really for TikTok and tax cuts to the rich.'"

On the whole, I would rather listen to women "preach" than have to listen to election deniers , or fucked in the head Q Anon morons.

I don't think that Carville was setting this up as an either or decision.

people are not "forced" to listen to women "preach" any more than they are forced to listen to election deniers or Q Anon nuts or extreme MAGA weirdos that are in the news everyday. I would rather endure the most outrageous feminist on earth than be subjected to the J6 Choir another time.

Of course not.  Do you think that Carville believes otherwise?

What Carville is saying is that if we keep listening to "females preaching" the Democrats will lose the election.

This is a made up thing when contrasted to what the alternatives are.

I think Carville is saying that the Party has gone too far to the left and that position is over represented by woman in the Party.  He also offers a way to appeal to former Trump voters.  Maybe those that also voted for Obama.

James is telling us something we should listen to. That is, stop talking over people's heads. It's called, " feedback " and Carville may yet have his ear to the 'ground' and can hear the rumblings beneath us. It's not as confrontational as it sounds.

Also, another man giving this type of feedback is Bill Maher:

I don't fully agree with Bill Maher take on this "identity crisis," but I am certainly going to reevaluate and take to heart what he says. As I have always done and 'dail' it back where I can possibly. Because he is a supporter. . .and, some things are getting on his and James' nerves. Possibly other liberals too. We have to listen to each other and to those who 'justly' hold the mic to speak to the masses.

I was not bothered at all by Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi show of support. In fact, I appreciated it. It was. . . unexpected. That said, there are some things happening in the so-called "Left" that do give me pause. . . as to what must they be thinking.

Carville knows elections are won by appealing to, or just not actively alienating, moderate middle of the road swing voters!

Agreed. And if people can't keep up with the changing times. . . slow down a bit and let them catch up, before they get frustrated, stop, and take a seat. . .on the sidelines and just watch. Moderates and independents are figuratively screaming this type of message right now.

I can still hear Bill Maher's on-air complaint that he gave a million dollars to Obama's campaign and Obama dissed him by never coming on his show for eight years thereabouts of his presidency. . . .  It's 'stuff' like that which can do great harm to the spirit of supporters. . . and make friends question. . . why they are not being heard when they are saying in their own way there's a 'problem' here.

BTW, this mention of Bill Maher is not meant to turn the discussion away from Carville - just to add to the concern that others are out there . . . talking. Back to Carville now. :)

Bill Maher obsesses over identity, criticizing identity politics has been a major theme of his show for many years now.

"The same gop that proudly took away women's reproductive rights while refusing to do a damn thing about illegal immigration is now running on unpopular social issues and the restoration of Trump."
Women can get an abortion in every state, with certain restrictions based upon that state's laws. The "bipartisan" immigration bill does nothing to slow down the daily invasion of the border by mostly working age males. That's Biden's fault.
The party with unpopular social issues is the Democrats, considering their support of grooming children about sexuality and gender, plus their fawning cheerleading for trans "women" over biological females.

That's exactly what they are doing, losing voters in just about every demographic except young, single women.

That's true. But that does not signify that his point/s should be blown off and not given proper considerations. :) We lose when we don't care what our political friends feel they are not being listened to. . . and respected. They can set themselves to 'foot.'

BTW, when Carville and Maher and others like them start to feel that they don't have a place in the party anymore (alienated). . .it creates an opening for 'solicitation' by others for politics sake. There is similarity to the shifting (and exiting) republicans who will not sit and abide Trump any longer. . . so they announce they are leaving the party. . .and/or the 'fight.'

Carville seems to be calling for a "final solution" to the Trump problem. But the liberal the left should be listening to is Bill Maher, he's trying to warn them of their stupid ways.

And, I suppose they have a chance...

Which GOP did that because it wasn’t Republicans.    The SCOTUS moved that decision to the states.    And rightly so ….
