Random Thots on Yesterday

Posted on   July 14, 2024   by riverdaughter

1.) It was a tragic day for the people who died and were severely injured yesterday. Not even MAGA rally goers deserve senseless death by random gunshots.

2.) The second amendment frenzy has put all Americans at risk. A bump stock could have made the death toll so much worse.

3.) The shooter’s goal was pointless. History shows that dangerous, violent dictators have uncanny luck and will survive assassination attempts over and over again. Hitler’s own Generals and military intelligence officers tried it many times and were never able to do more than give him a hand tremor. Tito, the former communist dictator of Yugoslavia, a pretty authoritarian dictator who had no respect for human rights, had 5 unsuccessful assassination attempts and died of old age at 87 after 27 yrs of brutal rule. Dozens of assassinations were attempted on Francisco Franco, the fascist dictator of Spain. He also died at 82 from old age after 36 years in office. For all we know, each assassination attempt   adds   years to the target’s life. It’s like some practical joke played on us by the universe. Don’t anyone else try it. You’ll only make things worse and take out innocent bystanders in the process. In fact, you might say that the proof of how long a despicable and destructive dictator stays in office is directly proportional to the number of unsuccessful assassination attempts he survives. (That kind of makes sense if you think about it)

4.) Better to take him out at the ballot box in November with overwhelming numbers of votes.

8.) This is NOT the time for Democrats to go offline. Carry on with whatever your original plans are. Trump will grab all the attention he can after this and as serious as this incident was,   it can happen to any candidat e, not just him. (See random thot 10 below) The world coming to a screeching halt right now would be perfect for him. Keep acting presidential Joe and Kamala. Don’t give in to pressure to go into hiding. You’re the only two who should be asking for uniting. Also, it’s just a flesh wound. Time to break out some Purple Heart bandaids.

10.) Mike Johnson and all the other Republicans calling for turning the rhetoric down can start with their own side. The rest of us were told just last week by The Heritage Foundation President that the right is planning a revolution and it would be bloodless if the left steps aside and lets them do it:

So, also 2A. Gun regulation and all that might have prevented the death of a rally goer and critical injuries to two others. So, please, by all means, shut your own mouths first. Zip it. Zip it good.

11.) Media people who are getting off on a photo are psychopaths. Prove me wrong.

Well yes. Republicans need to turn down the rhetoric. Democrats need to turn down the rhetoric. This is a true both sides do it and both sides need to turn it down. But somehow I doubt if either side will follow thru as this is what our politics have devolved to. Reminds me of a movie quote from 'The American President'.

I've known Bob Rumson for years, and I've been operating under the assumption that the reason Bob devotes so much time and energy to shouting at the rain was that he simply didn't get it. Well, I was wrong. Bob's problem isn't that he doesn't get it. Bob's problem is that he can't sell it! We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, Bob Rumson is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle-aged, middle-class, middle-income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family and American values and character. And wave an old photo of the President's girlfriend and you scream about patriotism and you tell them, she's to blame for their lot in life, and you go on television and you call her a whore. Sydney Ellen Wade has done nothing to you, Bob. She has done nothing but put herself through school, represent the interests of public school teachers, and lobby for the safety of our natural resources. You want a character debate, Bob? You better stick with me, 'cause Sydney Ellen Wade is way out of your league.

I would love to return to a time when politicians told us what they were going to do to help us and make our lives better but even the people don't seem to want that anymore. The extremists have won the war and everybody is now paying the price.

Nothing about yesterday will change my mind about how I intend to vote. No photo image, no raised fist, no ugly angry defiant face behind which lurks a menacing and malevolent mind.

He does not represent America.

A powerful photograph that could change America forever

In an instant Saturday, the ability to sort reality from image became more difficult.

There are a lot of dumbass reasons to vote for Donald Trump.

That photo is near the top of the list.

That photo is near the top of the list.

The article isn't about changing votes:

"Densely packed with markers of nationalism and authority — the flag, the blood, the urgent faces of federal agents in dark suits — it will encourage some of the darkest forces in American civic life. People who preach violence, who revel in its political potential, can now say that one of their own is a victim, and he was. From that, more cycles of violence are almost inevitable.

Political violence can only degrade democracy, never advance it, and this photograph is painful proof of that corrosive power. Violence creates victims who must be avenged, and it very often strengthens the power of the people it targets, making heroes of them if they survive and martyrs if the violence achieves its terrible ends."

Isn't it a political ideal to 'Never let a good crisis go to waste'. How many issues have been used in the past by politicians as fundraisers, and some were quite successful. Welcome to current day politics I'm afraid.

As are the media people who are ignoring Democrats especially Biden ratcheting up the rhetoric to heights that made this assassination attempt inevitable.

It took less than a day for the leftist media to go back on the offensive claiming that it is Trump only that must preach unity; completely ignoring Democrats over the top rhetoric that has easily matched and outpaced Trump's.

Biden may or may not follow through with his promise to stop the attacks on Trump. Trump may or may not as well with his promise to end his attacks on Biden.

But the leftist media will for sure continue unabated until there is another attack. It is inevitable. It is what they most fervently desire.

So, you must also believe that Reagan meant what he said when he was caught on mic saying he had signed legislation outlawing the Soviet Union and that bombing would begin in five minutes.

The left is frantically denying that their hateful and violent rhetoric against Trump over the years didn't incite a left-wing wacko to attempt to assassinate Trump. The media has not helped, to wit.....

You Don't Despise the Media Enough: Denver Post WRECKED for Headline on Trump Assassination – Twitchy

The libs by their ongoing attacks have managed to make Trump into a martyr. They media initially refused to admit this was an assassination attempt. You bet that picture will be used in the coming political ads. There is no need to replace Biden because he's just a few months from being voted out.
