Interesting Question - Can Vance Survive As Trump's VP Candidate ?
JD Vance is off to a rocky start, has no path to bring new voters to Trump, and once called his boss a Hitler like figure.
How long before Trump starts exploring ways to ditch JD and install someone with broader appeal?
Prior to Harris becoming the Democratic candidate the Trump forces thought they were on a glide path to victory. Now that the Trump train is careening down the track heading towards a derailment he needs a distracting scapegoat. JD could be the sacrificial lamb in this scenario.
Now that the Dems have changed out a candidate there is little reason to think Trump will have any second thoughts about doing so as well.
Exposes of Vance show him to be a far right intellectual who is beholden to libertarian tech oligarchs who want to remake America in their image. In other words not necessarily in Trump's image.
If Vance doesnt get his act together and please Trump in the next few weeks dont be surprised if he is the next Trump associate who becomes under the bus road kill.

Trump is going to need to find a way to find new voters. Vance doesnt offer that possibility. Anyone that would vote for Vance is already a trump voter.

What will bring in new voters is for the Trump campaign to feature the views of Kamala Harris combined with what the country just saw democrats doing to Trump and their own guy, Biden.

Vance, unlike Pence, is Trump's chosen successor. But the media will be just as merciless with Vance as they were with Pence. After 4 years of constant "Trump is the anti Christ and Hitler rolled into one" BS voters will again be burned out. No one will even want to consider Vance for President. Even with Kamala setting the bar for being a successful VP impossibly low for all future VP's.

Kamala Harris will turn 60 before this election. Harris is too young to really know anything about Eisenhower, hippies, or Vietnam. Harris was 4 years old when MLK was assassinated. Harris is too young to really know anything about the civil rights movement. Harris was 10 years old when Saigon fell, does she really understand the comparison with the fall of Kabul? Kamala Harris will be eligible for Social Security by the next midterm election. Her generation has become the one concerned with Social Security; they're reaching retirement age. It's not about the Boomers any longer.
Don't you find it rather odd that Biden, born during WWII, was pandering to voters born in this century? The 20th century is ancient history for today's political activists. And we're supposed to be surprised that Biden doesn't understand why his economic record wasn't resonating? We aren't living in the 20th century economy any longer.
The only thing us old farts have left is to vote. And our numbers are shrinking every day so that voting doesn't have as much influence any longer.

Kamala Harris could not legally drive a car in the 1970s. The Beatles broke up when Harris was 6. Elvis died when Harris was 13. Ronald Reagan was inaugurated when Harris was 16. Harris was 18 in 1984 but might not have been old enough to register before the election.
The only thing Harris knows about segregationist Senators is political spin. We have to recognize and accept that Boomers are now just another minority voting bloc. And Harris is going to pander to us the same way she panders to other minority voting blocs.

I disagree with your assessment of VP Harris. She's only 2 years younger than me and I understand teh Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, et al. You know why? Because I read. I bet she does, too. I also asked a lot of questions growing up while the news was on. Drove my parents nuts but they answered to the best of their ability.

You know, there are voters today who have only read about Sept. 11, 2001. They won't have a visceral understanding of what happened. Reading and watching videos about the terrorist attack is quite a bit different than experiencing the shock and grief of the moment.
I've lived through the Cuban missile crisis. There's been a lot of things written about that event. But no written word or wonder of film captures the smell of fear in the people around you. That's a visceral understanding of history that can't be obtained from books.
My point is that visceral knowledge is fading away. That visceral knowledge doesn't influence politics any longer. Those events have become talking points to generate an emotional response from voters who don't really understand what it was about.
You could say the same thing about the Lincoln and the McKinley assassinations. You didn't experience those. You didn't experience WWII or the A-Bomb

Biden is Silent. Trump is a Boomer. Harris is GenX. And Vance is a Millennial.
It's 102 days until the election (as of 25 July 2024) and there's still uncertainty over who will be running for what office. Primary voters wasted their time voting for Biden. There's no certainty Trump is gonna stay on the ballot. Primary voters didn't even have chance to vote for Vance. And we do not know who is going to be the Democrat VP candidate.
Nothing in Boomer's long political experience has prepared them for this election. The coronation of Hubert Humphrey is perhaps the closest but even the Happy Warrior had a full campaign season to convince voters (and he failed). Boomers are trying to use past elections to predict this one and it's still just a WAG.

I may have to agree with the Vance naysayers. He was selected when it was still Biden. Now that Harris is the presumptive, the strategy probably needs to change. It's a whole new ball game with her. Someone should be thinking of that and possibly behind the scenes convince Vance to bow out so said adjustments can be implemented.
You are aware that Eric Holder is essentially choosing the Democrats' VP? And we're not sure Kamala Harris was allowed a choice when Holder was put in charge of the team.

It's pretty obvious that Democrats don't pay attention to Hillary nowadays. Hillary has to push conspiracy theories to get reporters to talk to her.
There is no guarantee that Harris will even make it past the convention. Her record as a hard-core liberal, especially as Senator, could very well do her in. It's going to take way more than identity politics to get her elected.
The confirmation will be phoned in next week so the DNC convention is really rather pointless. A roll call of the states would be a sham for show. And Harris accepting the nomination at the convention would be so fake.
The only thing voters should anticipate is the message of unity at the convention. Democrats have set the bar to show us how its done. If Democrats don't lead the country in singing Kumbaya around the campfire then voters are going to be disappointed and sparks are gonna fly.

At this point, replacing the VP candidate - selected at the convention - is probably more trouble than it’s worth. I’m also not sure why they would want to.
Trump thought he was headed to a blow-out win over Biden with disheartened Democrats staying home instead of voting, and selected Vance solely to try to run up the numbers of his MAGA base. Vance is a disaster and everyone knows it.
If you saw the two of them sitting together at the RNC you’d think Trump is already considering dumping him. While the cameras were on them during random speeches Vance kept trying to make small talk with Trump, and Trump didn’t looked particularly thrilled to be next to him. I saw a worried look on Vance’s face about their struggle to look normal together. I’m sure it had gotten painfully under Trump’s skin that media outlets everywhere were repeating Vance’s prior massive criticisms of Trump. This won’t end well for Vance, and I can’t wait to see it go down just like everyone before him who thought they could ride the tiger.
