This is Anna Maria Island, near Tampa, after Helene. A complete loss- looks like a bomb went off. The residents didn’t have time to clear this debris before having to evacuate again for Hurricane Milton, which will be a major hurricane when it hits on Wednesday. Heart breaking.

My brother owns both a house and a condo in Punta Gorda, Fla. in the hurricane path.  Two years ago the condo was badly damaged by the hurricane then. The windows were finally replaced by the condo association about three weeks ago.  Maybe him and his wife will give up on having a winter home in "paradise".

(He doesnt believe in climate change by the way.)

I can't understand why anyone would want to live where you're barely above sea level on limestone that could erode and collapse into a sinkhole at any time.

Hurricanes are weather events, not climate events. Some years the waters are warmer than average in some areas, that can cause storms to form and strengthen.

In spite of disinformation coming from some quarters, hurricanes are no more frequent or strong than before.

Hurricanes are expected to grow stronger as the climate warms , with more of them spinning up into major storms. But it’s not just the biggest cyclones that are worsening. New research finds that weak tropical cyclones, including tropical storms and low-category hurricanes, are intensifying over time.

Morning..yes it is no different here.. people who live in Queensland and the northern part of Australia often say it's paradise..but unfortunately that comes at a price..

9 months it is, but for the other 3 it can be hell with cyclones and the wet season..

Nope think I prefer to staying in a more temperate climate with the 4 seasons..

People over there are going to be in for another very rough time and I hope Kavika and everyone manages to stay safe .
