Marjorie Taylor Greene Boosts Elon Musk For House Speaker
By: Alex Griffing (Mediaite)
Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) boosted the world's richest man, Elon Musk, on Thursday to become the next Speaker of the House.
Greene replied to a post from Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), a deficit hawk, who suggested Musk should lead the House to "disrupt the swamp."
"The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress . . Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it . . . nothing's impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka 'uniparty,' lose their ever-lovin' minds)," wrote the Kentucky Republican on X.
Greene, who has long grabbed headlines for pushing conspiracies like claiming the government controls the weather and creates hurricanes, was quick to promote Paul's idea. "I'd be open to supporting @elonmusk for Speaker of the House. DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning in Congress to enact real government efficiency," she replied to Paul, adding:
The establishment needs to be shattered just like it was yesterday.
This could be the way.
Musk led the charge on Wednesday to scuttle Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-LA) bipartisan proposal to keep the government running. Johnson's proposal would keep the government funded at current levels through March 14th, and also added over $100 billion in additional spending on disaster relief for hurricane victims in the southeast.
Greene, whose state of Georgia was impacted by the hurricanes earlier in the year, also slammed the proposal saying, "It's not a CR, which is a continuation of the budget. It's turning into an omnibus."
If Congress doesn't come together on a bill to keep the government funded it will shutdown on December 20th.
Democrats cried foul on Wednesday after Musk, and eventually Trump, successfully moved to kill Johnson's proposal. Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) accused Trump of being Musk's "puppet." "As the shadow Pres-Elect, Elon Musk is now calling the shots for House Rs on government funding while Trump hides in Mar-a-Lago behind his handlers," Goldman wrote on X in reply to Musk declaring, "Absolutely, this bill should NOT pass. A new bill that isn't an insane crime against the American people should be done in 33 days."
Goldman added, "It increasingly seems like we're in for 4 years of an unelected oligarch running the country by pulling on his puppet's strings."

I think Musk has his sights set higher.
What higher office would that be John.
Puppet master?
As opposed to this?
I'll take it.............
Emperor of the world
Maybe higher...
.
Let's hope.
The last thing we want is a man who can build a company capable of catching rockets mired in explanations of basic math to MGT, AOC, and Katie Porter or telling Hank Johnson how islands don't capsize.
He already has aacheived them, he is president.
I second the motion. The quicker the Populists burn the GOP to the ground the quicker we can get the rebuild for those who want a functioning bipartisan government.
Your idea has merit. Tho it might be painful for awhile
Pain can be a powerful teacher.
Agree. The last election proved that.
The Dems don't want a functioning bipartisan government. They want total control.
It never ceases to amaze me that some can make such comments about the 'other side' while ignoring that their 'side' is doing the same or (as is true today with the GOPMAGA) much worse. The level of projection is quite impressive.
The Dems who have run on a unity message want total control? You go with that while your Emperor and his team start fulfilling the promises to the Evangelica minority to never having to have to vote again. ripping up the Constitution on his promise to rid the country of poor brown people and firing all government employees that don't pledge fealty.
No wonder the "Biden is fine" propaganda campaign played so well.
Yes they did. Too bad their actions did not show the same desire for unity.
About as good as Harris is a great candidate and she ran a perfect campaign they are trying to sell America now.
For the life of me I cannot imagine how or why Musk would ever agree to taking that position. It may be a soundbite for some but I don't see it ever happening.
I don't either. He would not have patience for the political bullshit plus he is in a tremendous position already ... the richest man on the planet (by far) and thus free to do whatever creative and fun thing he desires. Who would want to be a political administrator dealing with a bunch of highly partisan, self-serving (mostly) opportunists with a narrow thin majority?
What is the logic behind the Speaker Of The House not having to be a member of the House? That has never made sense to me.
The principle is that the House gets to choose its own leadership. The CotUS gives the House full control over who they choose. This has never been exercised though.
Also, interesting note, if the Speaker of the House does not meet the requirements to be PotUS (e.g. natural born citizen) then the Speaker would be skipped over in the line of succession.
Why the Speaker need not be an elected Representative but the Senate Majority leader must be an elected Senator is an inconsistency best I can tell.
The house reps are the peoples reps, therefore any person can be the speaker, the Senate however represents the states and anyone from outside the Senate would give, whichever state the person is from, over-representation. That's my take on it.
A logical reason.
That is my impression of Musk's plan. He will not be able to coexist with Trump, but that is likely his plan.
Trump is not going to like Musk as an enemy.
Actually, I think it's a great idea. While nothing would still get done, I think he would bring more publicity to how fucked up Congress is and perhaps that would help encourage change.
Marjorie Taylor Greene is an idiot, and she removes any doubt about that fact almost every time she opens her mouth
