Well, that didn't take long.

The logic-twisting alliance between Silicon Valley's new oligarchs and the home-spun patriotism at the heart of the Republican grassroots movement is shattering before our very eyes.

MAGA stalwarts like Laura Loomer and Matt Gaetz are already turning their fire on the tech bros who helped bankroll Donald Trump's comeback bid for the White House before he is even sworn in as president for a second time.

It was always going to end in tears, but few observers predicted that an all-out MAGA civil war would erupt before we even reach the New Year.

Overnight, Trump cheerleaders have used Elon Musk's platform to attack the world's richest man—and many now claim Musk is using his social media omnipotence to shut them down.

"Never insult the monarch," MAGA chronicler Mike Cernovic warned his 1.3 million followers. Musk replied: "I am constantly insulted on this platform."

That was the final straw for Laura Loomer, a failed Republican congressional candidate who got so close to Trump during the campaign that she accompanied him on the plane to the presidential debate with Kamala Harris.

AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement

"This is America. We don't have a monarchy. This is outrageous," she wrote on X, formerly Twitter, after claiming that she was being censored on the platform by Musk.

Loomer waded into the Boxing Day culture war sparked by Vivek Ramaswamy's controversial post claiming that "American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long." A debate over H1B visas has quickly descended into a bitter feud between those—led by the tech crowd—who believe importing highly skilled workers from abroad will boost the American economy and those—like Trump himself—who have long argued that the visas are being abused by companies seeking cheaper foreign labor to the detriment of American workers.

The traditional white working-class bedrock of the MAGA movement, which sprang from the Tea Party, has always been intensely focused on reducing immigration, something Trump championed during his first term, symbolized by his promised wall along the border with Mexico.

Musk tried to steer a path between the two sides, "clarifying" his DOGE partner's comments by saying that H1Bs should only be used for the very top talents, but the MAGA majority appeared not to be placated.

AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement

Loomer claimed Musk and Ramaswamy infiltrated the movement for their own ends. "I have been more loyal to President Trump and his agenda than ANYONE. And I have only been punished for it. Pay attention MAGA. This is how you will all be treated now that Big Tech has infiltrated MAGA. "President Musk" is starting to look real," she said.

Former president Donald Trump moved to hire his racist firebrand pal Laura Loomer—a far-right, Islamophobic 9/11 conspiracist who earlier this month was paid to say she eats dog food—but one of his top advisers swooped in and blocked the hire, according to a report in Axios.

/ Laura Loomer/X

She also posted a clip from a speech and a statement by Trump decrying the abuse of H1B visas.

"Tech bros have never seen this statement from @realDonaldTrump because they only decided to pretend being MAGA 4 months ago after Trump almost has his head blown off in Butler, PA. I am an original MAGA Trump supporter. I'm as die hard as they come. MAGA! AMERICA FIRST!"

Soon after her intervention, Loomer found that her X privileges had been curtailed. She said her checkmark had been removed, and her subscriptions had been canceled.

"BREAKING: @elonmusk also just canceled all of my subscriptions and sent a message to all of my subscribers saying, "Laura Loomer deactivated her subscriptions" as a way to demonetize me. That's a lie. I didn't do it. Why would I cancel my own subscriptions? This is @elonmusk retaliating against me for speaking truth. @elonmusk is a free speech fraud. Big Tech just doesn't want to be held accountable. What am I guilty of? Supporting Trump's own POLICY of banning H1B visas and fighting for American tech workers. @realDonaldTrump Elon wants to attack your loyalists. This is unacceptable."

Dozens of other accounts criticizing Musk and Ramaswamy's position also claimed that their checkmarks had been taken away.

The executive director of Women for America First, Kylie Jane Kremer, said hers had disappeared. The ConservativeOG group on X said the same had happened to them and their affiliated influencers.

"Woah, @elonmusk just stripped our entire organization of badges and verified org status. I guess this is what you get when you hand the keys over to an autistic, power-hungry, self-aggrandizing traitor to his country," wrote MAGA influencer Preston Parra.

Raheem Kassam, co-founder of Steve Bannon's War Room, posted: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." He posted a clip of Colorado's Democratic governor Jared Polis telling CNN that Musk was right to defend the H1B visas. "When @jaredpolis is your ideological ally, @elonmusk, you know you done f***ed up," he wrote.

Disgraced former congressman Matt Gaetz, Trump's unlikely pick to head the Justice Department, suggested that Musk and his Silicon Valley allies stay in their lane.

"We welcomed the tech bros when they came running our way to avoid the 3rd grade teacher picking their kid's gender - and the obvious Biden/Harris economic decline. We did not ask them to engineer an immigration policy."

Vivek Ramaswamy made a comment on X  to the effect of Americans are too stupid to be world class engineers.  Then all hell broke loose when the run of the mill MAGA objected.  Now it seems Musk is bigfooting the situation by canceling lunatics like Laura Loomer.

Maybe daddy Trump will step in and take control by telling everyone to get back to their true purpose as a MAGA - worshiping him.

I  hate myself for saying this but I'm with the MAGA-ites this time. We have plenty of talent in STEM in this country. Musk just wants to pay foreign techies less money because he's a Corporatist and a sleazy one at that.

However....I'm getting the popcorn ready

Expanding the H-1B visa program and/or removing country caps is a terrible idea.

Frankly, the entire program should be suspended and scrapped.

MAGA is in an uproar after President Musk called a shortage of “excellent engineering talent” a “fundamental limiting factor in Silicon Valley” in a Wednesday tweet. He argued that immigrant labor is an essential ingredient in American innovation and warned of a "dire shortage of extremely talented and motivated engineers in America."   Via Salon:

“If you force the world’s best talent to play for the other side, America will LOSE. End of story,” Musk replied to critics.

Critics clapped back at the Great White Whale on his X platform:

Patrick @PatriciusAcutus

American tech companies like to hire foreign workers because:

Nothing more than a tool for the Silicon Valley Tech companies to subvert the American worker by importing cheap foreign labor.

What about that is America First?

Never doubt that the main purpose of H1B visas is to replace native-born American tech workers with cheap foreign labor. Anyone telling you otherwise, including St. Elon, is ignorant or lying.

My IT hubby was laid off 20 months ago with not a single nibble on his resume. It's not just the new IT grads, it's all of them. We shouldn't be approving a single H1B application as long as Americans are out of work. x.com/Maraba112/stat…

1. Elon Musk knows AI will replace most tech workers

2. Before that happens, he will ensure foreign workers are hired over Americans to work longer for cheaper

3. When AI replaces jobs en masse and Americans complain, foreign workers will be blamed and deported to appease the unemployed, but by then it's too late

4. Everyone loses, except the tech oligarchs who will control the upcoming super-intelligence that will power most industries, securing their control of the economy

5. Then, they'll use your unemployment to implement UBI as a "solution" to your economic woes, taking away your independence and humanity with it.

Elon Musk's vision is dystopian.

The whole clan is like that. Trump and Musk, too. Musk - who made billions thanks to government subsidies - wants people working his DOGE thing for free. Trump is legendary for not paying his bills.

But when the rest of us characterize these people as predators, getting absurdly rich at the expense of the least of us, we’re all whiny babies who can’t accept reality. The reality is these guys are just as slimy - and worse - as they are portrayed, and we see it in their actual words and actions.

Actually H-2B visas, per your linked article, which are a different animal altogether ( for nonagricultural seasonal workers) , but still I get your point, especially since one would think there should be available American workers to fill the H-2B type less-skilled labor positions.  Some info on H-2B labor rates that Mar a Lago would have had to follow HERE .  So if Trump used H-2B labor instead of American workers he wouldn't have gotten away with paying them much less than the American labor counterpart, in some cases more than more skilled positions. Would be interesting to see what he actually paid them, and why he couldn't find equivalent American labor to fill those positions.

This is actually a much different situation than H-1B Visa having to do with much more specialized and skilled labor, that in many cases is more difficult to fill from strictly a US citizen labor force.

I know that it’s a different animal, I was quoting Trump saying that the H-1B was used for service people which of course it is not.

I to, would like to know what he paid them, according to the service workers union he paid much less than they currently receive as union members.

Interesting.  Can you provide a link to that info, I have a bet with a few folks that he pays the bare minimum.

I did find this from 2017 :

Under requests approved by the U.S. Labor Department, Mar-a-Lago can employ 35 foreign waiters, 20 cooks and 15 housekeepers to help serve its 500 members starting this month through May 31. The waiters will receive $11.88 an hour with no tips, the cooks $13.34 an hour, and the housekeepers $10.33 an hour. The waiters’ and cooks’ wages are slightly above the national average for those fields and the housekeepers’ slightly below, according to Labor Department statistics.

I imagine those numbers are a bit higher today.  I don't know if " with no tips " means they aren't allowed to get tips or if they just mean that their salary sans the tips they get is $11.88/hour.  Hopefully they make more in tips than their salary like many servers and bartenders I know who work in higher end clubs, restaurants or bars.

FALSE

First of all, the conditions for the employer petition for a prospective H-1B applicant are such that the nonimmigrant worker cannot be paid less than any other employee applying for the same position.  See USCIS info HERE .

Your sponsoring employer must submit a Labor Condition Application (LCA) for your position, certified by the Secretary of Labor, when filing the H-1B petition with USCIS. The LCA serves as proof that the employer is offering, and will offer during the period of authorized employment as an H-1B nonimmigrant, wages that are at least the actual wage level paid by the employer to all other individuals with similar experience and qualifications for the specific employment in question, or the prevailing wage level for the occupational classification in the area of employment, whichever is greater, based on the best information available as of the time of filing the LCA.

Second, it is a FACT that there is an expanding shortage of skilled labor in the US in many technical fields.  See article HERE .

The demand for technology professionals across nearly every industry is projected to rapidly outpace supply over the next decade. Quantifying current and anticipated talent shortfalls within America’s STEM workforce reveals the depth of the digitization-driven skills crisis.
  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that by 2026, the shortage of developers in the US will exceed 1.2 million. Additionally, 545K of the current software engineering workforce will have left the market by that time. (BLS)
  • The USA is facing some of the world’s greatest year-over-year skills gap increases. Between 66% and 90% of US employers struggle to find the skills they need, with tech positions being among the top 10 hardest roles to fill. (ManpowerGroup)

Or HERE at American Institute of Physics :

In a  policy brief accompanying the report, NSF’s governing board argues that the U.S. now faces an “accelerating STEM talent crisis,” in part due to the longstanding underperformance of the U.S. pre-K-12 education system in comparison with many peer countries.

AIP and the National Science Board (NSB) recommend a combination of cultivating our own STEM workforce and policies to attract STEM talent from around the world.

Yet the United States is facing an accelerating science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) talent crisis that increasingly puts our economic and national security at risk. To Remain Globally Competitive, the United States Must Use a Two Pronged Talent Strategy: Implement policies that ramp up the flow of domestic talent into the STEM workforce along the full diversity of career pathways. Put policies in place to attract and retain STEM talent from around the world.

Now can we address the root issue or shall we continue to simply call each other "ignorant" or "liars"?

So, we've learned that immigrants really are parasites on society.  Who would of thought that Trump's inner circle would prove that Democrats' open border politics is destroying America?  Musk and Ramaswamy have become the poster boys for the stupidity of the academic elite.

Has anyone noticed that MAGA is doing what Democrats could only wet dream about?  Democrats corrupted government and spent billions trying to undermine Trump.  And all that was needed was one mediocre tweet from a fake MAGA tech guy.

The real elites are now running things and the folks that voted for Trump had no idea that he was going to appoint over a dozen Billionaires to crash MAGA and everyone else.

Trump finally weighed in today and in a hilarious turn of events backed immigration to support Musk in his X(Twitter) battles with Loomer and disillusioned MAGA. Trump supporters were trashed by Musk with both Musk and Ramaswamy calling them too stupid to fill the jobs that more HB1 visas could fill with smarter foreigners. Crazy times. So we have two billionaire Trump appointees who openly trash MAGA that got them in the door by electing Trump.

So what do you suppose is more important to the author of the seeded article?

1.   The fact that hardline anti-immigration (of any kind) MAGA like Bannon, Loomer or Gaetz are in a rift with Elon Musk and Ramaswamy over the H-1B matter so that it can be characterized as a "MAGA metldown" or "civil war", much to the glee of the anti-MAGA or anti-Trump crowd, or

2.   That perhaps the reality of the tech labor and software developer shortage in this country is real and that we may need to embrace the H-1B Visa program as a means to help fill the gap until such time as the US education system can wake up and deliver the education necessary to grow our own higher tech labor force?

In order to solve the talent shortage gap, employers can expand their search radius and hire developers from other countries. Many companies have been looking for technical talent in the CEE, a region with a large number of  experienced developers  at a better price.
Eastern European tech hubs are currently facing an unprecedented growth of the tech workforce –there are over 1.3 million software developers on the market. The region’s IT talent pool is versatile: you can find both coders specializing in popular technologies ( Java JavaScript C# , PHP) and professionals with rarer programming skills ( Ruby , Go,  Scala ).

While I never supported Trump and am not a fan of the more extreme end of the so-called MAGA movement (especially those characterizing ALL immigration as bad, or bordering on racism), I can say without reservation that item 2 is much more important to me.  I can understand why the H-1B program is important and why it should be improved to offer the best solution for both employers and the workers.  I work in the tech and engineering industry so I am very familiar with the labor shortages in the US tech industries and understand what Musk is getting at.  Some here can keep spinning the meme that he and Ramaswamy are calling the American workforce stupid, or that the H-1B Visa program is somehow equivalent to the expansion of illegal immigration, but neither is the truth of the matter.

The H-1B is a temporary (nonimmigrant) visa category that allows employers to petition for highly educated foreign professionals to work in “specialty occupations” that require at least a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.ii Jobs in fields such as mathematics, engineering, technology, and medical sciences often qualify. Typically, the initial duration of an H-1B visa classification is three years, which may be extended for a maximum of six years .
According to many economists, the presence of immigrant workers in the United States creates new job opportunities for native-born workers. This occurs in five ways. First, immigrant workers and native-born workers often have different skill sets, meaning that they fill different types of jobs. As a result, they complement each other in the labor market rather than competing for the exact same jobs. Second, immigrant workers spend and invest their wages in the U.S. economy, which increases consumer demand and creates new jobs. Third, businesses respond to the presence of immigrant workers and consumers by expanding their operations in the United States rather than searching for new opportunities overseas. Fourth, immigrants themselves frequently create new businesses, thereby expanding the U.S. labor market. And fifth, the new ideas and innovations developed by immigrants fuel economic growth.

I don't see that Trump changing his tune on this H-1B matter as such a bad thing.  At least it shows that he can change his mind if/when new information is provided.  On issues like this I think it is preferable to go to the heart of the matter, rather than fanning the flames of the extremes, IMHO.
