Somebody's losing their shit.

Who means more to Trump, his richest man in the world friend who can end all Trump's financial troubles, or the average MAGA everyman ?   Do you really have to ask?

Musk pledges "war" to protect H-1B visas, calls some GOP "racists"

Elon Musk pledged Friday night to go to “war” to defend the H-1B visa program for foreign tech workers, branding some Republican opponents as “hateful, unrepentant racists.”

Why it matters:

The MAGA-DOGE civil war that erupted over the last 48 hours has now come to a tipping point, with President-elect Trump’s new techno-libertarian coalition of billionaires taking full aim at his traditional base.

Trump, who has remained silent thus far on the schism, faces a quickly deepening conflict between his richest and most powerful advisors on one hand, and the people who swept him to office on the other.

Catch up quick: The skirmishes started last Sunday, with anti-immigration and anti-Indian vitriol against Trump’s pick of venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as his AI advisor.

It escalated into full conflict Thursday when Musk ally and DOGE co-lead Vivek Ramaswamy took to X to blast American “mediocrity” culture. Musk defended Ramaswamy, and the two sides started engaging in an increasingly bitter war of words.
On Friday afternoon, Musk doubled down, saying MAGA adherents who continued to blast immigration and the tech community were “contemptible fools,” later clarifying he was talking about “racists” who would “absolutely be the downfall of the Republican Party if they are not removed.”

Zoom in:

Just before midnight Friday, Musk once again defended the H-1B program in vulgar, all-caps terms, saying the program was the key to the success of his (and other big American) companies.

“Take a big step back and F--K YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend,” Musk wrote.

In a separate post, he pledged to “fight to my last drop of blood” to keep America a meritocracy.

What they’re saying: As with Musk’s previous posts defending Ramaswamy and condemning his opponents, Trump supporters did not react well to Musk’s promise to defend the H-1B program.

“May God bless and protect President Trump from these people,” outspoken right-wing commentator Laura Loomer wrote, after accusing Musk of trying to censor her.

The intrigue: Though Trump has been silent on the matter, those around him have started showing their hands.
Michael Seifert, the CEO of online marketplace Public Square, whose board of directors includes Donald Trump Jr., took to social media Friday to say the H-1B program was “destroying the lives of American workers.”

Steve Bannon, one of the longest-tenured voices in Trump’s orbit, had multiple guests on his show this week to talk about his hardline anti-H-1B views.

Bannon tells Axios he helped kick off the debate with a now-viral Gettr post earlier this month calling out a lack of support for the Black and Hispanic communities in Big Tech.

What to know about the H-1B visas fueling divide in MAGA world

An erupting civil war in MAGA world over foreign workers has shone a fresh spotlight on a visa scheme that has become the backbone of the country’s highly skilled tech industry.

Why it matters: The brewing conflict has underscored the schism between one of President-elect Trump’s cornerstone pledges — cracking down on immigration — and his Silicon Valley supporters, many of whose businesses depend on attracting foreign workers.

We are a nation of immigrants.   We want to encourage bright people to stay and bright people to come to the USA and contribute.

Cracking down on illegals (especially criminals) should not translate into stopping immigration itself and acts like denying work visas.   We have too many people engaging in naive knee-jerk reactions ... it will just get worse with Trump leading their charge.

It is simply a proforma device.   It is a pattern designed to provide readers a consistent structure to quickly digest their content.   This is a common practice.  Have you never read a Gartner analysis (most executives are aware of this)?   The proforma structure makes it much easier to compare different products / markets / ideas and to find the portion of the analysis of interest.

Sample Gartner analysis report:

Petty complaints and criticism rather than thoughtful contributions to an article.

Horseshit. I don’t know where you get this crap, but that is just dumb. The whole of journalism is about presenting the facts and explaining why they matter. The situation gets explained because not everybody knows everything. If it’s never explained, why would anyone know? Are we all just supposed to intuitively understand situations that we have no experience with?

Horse shit.  Journalism is presenting the facts without trying to sway peoples opinions by telling them why it matters.  Heaven forbid people think for themselves and look into things they may care about themselves.

You may be happy with the likes of Rachel Maddow telling you why things are important but many people like to think for themselves.

But thanks for your opinion

You complained that the article provided an explanation.   That is both petty and misguided.

Providing structure for facts and offering explanations and reasoning helps people understand what is being communicated;  it does not in any way hinder them thinking for themselves.   Your criticism is ridiculous.

Journalism is presenting the facts without trying to sway peoples opinions by telling them why it matters.

This is a false connection you have made. You declare an inexorable cause and effect without proof. On the contrary, there are many examples, published every day, of stories that explain why their story matters without telling the reader what to think.

Heaven forbid people think for themselves and look into things they may care about themselves.

Think for themselves based on what? Lack of context is an incomplete basis on which to form an opinion.

If a journalist published a story on a murder for example, with nothing more than who shot whom, no one reading would know why they should care beyond just being opposed to murder. They wouldn’t know if there is a gang problem, or an illegal alien problem, or a foreign invasion, or if it was just a random happenstance. Knowing why this particular killing matters gives information to form a basis for how the reader might react. It doesn’t tell them how to act.

Or perhaps there is news from the financial world. Without information on why it matters, the reader won’t know how this will impact prices or their options for investment. “Why it matters” is a critical context found in any good piece of journalism. You, apparently, were triggered by the explicit declaration, which I think most people would find to be silly.

Honestly, your original comment comes off as trolling, and if that is the case, mission accomplished, I guess.

I think it is a fundamental disconnect with reality to view an article as telling you what you should think is important.   It is an article.   It contains facts and opinion.   If you disagree, nobody is forcing you to comply with it.

Quit whining about an article that takes the time to explain itself clearly and offer something about the content.

Do you agree with Musk that foreign workers are net positive for the USA or do you disagree?

That sounds pretty elitist - or paranoid -, but if you are really that worried about the news turning you into a sheep, then maybe stop reading the news, and leave this site. The mere publication of information is done because someone thought it was important.

But just to challenge you to support your absurd claim with specificity, let’s look at the section that has you so upset:

Why it matters: The brewing conflict has underscored the schism between one of President-elect Trump’s cornerstone pledges — cracking down on immigration — and his Silicon Valley supporters, many of whose businesses depend on attracting foreign workers.

To my eye, this is pure context, with no opinion offered. Which specific part of this tells me how to feel about the conflict?

I don't disagree with what you've said in your post, as a whole. I'd just like to point out that this technically isn't an immigration issue since H-1B visas are non-immigrant. Since it isn't, I wonder why this is being presented as an immigration issue.

Do you realize what you are stating about where and what, the majority get their 'news' opinions and about how they are expected to use these opinions ?

What first came to my mind, was how people were told NOT to watch the January 6th investigations. Cause goodness forbid that some one ascertain all the facts from all sides to render an informed decision on how they should eventually judge something. Sticking ones head in thje sand rarely does give one better insight, unless one is looking for ostrich eggs, which leaves a question that begs, do you really believe the 'news' you consume does not instill a bias in you're quest to decide for 'yourself', that which is more important in gaining the most wealth, of knowledge to best understand the competing forces wishing to bend one, won way not lost, cause at such a cost we witness the indoctrination of a stymied of thought nation, who obviously have struggled with the truth as of late, and absolutely, this fact is not up for debate, but i will wait.

If someone has to explain why it matters it probably doesn't.

Can't agree with you on this one. In my opinion, the question is, does it matter in the manner Axios, or anyone else using that literary device, says it does.

In this case, Axios seems concerned only with the schism between Trump supporters but leaves out why the H-1B is important (to me) enough of a hill to die on. First, it is a non-immigrant visa, so those opposed on immigration grounds probably don't know that.

Second, it should be explained why these visas are desired by various industries. As I understand it, they are intended to bring in expertise in various fields in order to fulfill shortfalls unable to be filled domestically.

It seems to me, those who are opposed to these visas either don't understand this, are isolationists or possibly racist in their objections. One individual can hold all three of these views or individuals can hold any combination of them.

Whatever. I think, though, that except for the racists, the others are missing the real problem. Our society and our education system doesn't produce enough of the skills we need to produce qualified people to fill these positions. My position on this issue is that, to limit H-1B visas, we need to change this as fast as we can.

Unfortunately, that isn't as easy as simply getting people interested in STEM and related fields. Even if we manage to raise the education levels of future generations, due to technology and AI the world is rapidly devolving into two categories of people, generally. Drones and those with valuable skills. And every year that tech and AI obsolete more and more human positions, the worse that divide will become.

My gut feeling is that the controversy concerning these visas miss the real issue while at the same time, may represent simply fighting over whatever makes one feel safer about an increasingly dark future for most people. This visa issue can't be looked at in isolation. It's just one small piece in a very large machine held together with chicken wire and duct tape.

That may sound dark, but that's why I place my hope not in the systems of men, but on the name of Jesus. No matter what happens here on earth, nothing can take me from his hand.

Love leftist hyperbole.

Trump isn't even in office yet; and the left is having a melt down to end all melt downs praying the new administration falls apart.

We know lock step Democrats/leftists don't tolerate dissension of any type; and have purged their party of anyone that has the temerity to disagree with their almighty doctrine. But this is the Republican party- which has assumed control of the middle class and port that Democrats have abandoned. Differences of opinion are going to occur.

Since Trump hasn't voiced any opinion on the matter- the TDS suffering author has no damn clue what side he will take. Also, no matter which side Trump falls on expect Democrats to oppose him every damn step of the way. Because Democrats always put party before country (and it seems Establishment Republicans do as well).

Which is exactly what Trump thinks of his own supporters. It's why Trump chose Musk and Ramaswamy.

No more rallies, Trump convoys, Trump boat parades, or "embracing the uneducated".

Trump admitted he didn't need their votes at some of his last rallies. He said he had all the votes he needed and they didn't need to worry about voting again. Now he doesn't need them at all.

Trump and Bannon have their destructive warriors in place to tear it all down. Musk and Ramaswamy don't care at all about MAGA opinions and Trump is now a literal King who is safe from prosecution. So Trump can freely side with Musk since he is free from being beholden to MAGA.

It sound like Trump is siding with Musk on the H1B visas. Trump said today that he is in favor of the visa for highly qualified people in certain industries.

Sounds good but Trump after he said that he used that type of visa made me check it out and he does use the visa but the list of highly qualified people were, house keepers, cooks, and bardenders…NO KIDDING, there is a huge lack of service people in Miami. In fact the unions commented he wouldn’t have to do that if he paid livable wages.

You can’t make this up.
