Putin didn't want to put his ally and partner Trump in a position where Putin knew there would be a confrontation between the U.S. and Russia. His plan was continue to pressure and undermine Ukraine. With Trump gone, Putin didn't have his ally to protect any longer.
He keeps putting forth this arrogant nonsense that the war would have not happened if he had been PotUS. Yet he is now PotUS and he cannot invoke his superpowers to end it? Especially since he promised to end it with a phone call as president-elect.

Why do they continue to support his ridiculous notions (e.g. renaming the Gulf of Mexico, imposing across-the-board tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China, trying to violate the CotUS and deny jus soli, etc.). In the meantime, rational people should pay close attention to the fact that Trump does not have any idea on how to end the war. That his ridiculous claims of ending the war with a phone call were the extreme opposite of what he is capable of doing.

Rational people knew Trump was lying when he said during the campaign that he would end the war in one day. Rational people didn't vote for Trump.
