WASHINGTON

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he will "take" the besieged Gaza Strip under US authority while hosting Jordan's King Abdullah at the White House, one of the many avowed opponents of his plan.

The president continued to insist that he will implement his widely panned proposal to take ownership of Gaza, saying: "We’re going to run it very properly." He broke with previous comments that the US would be "buying and owning" Gaza, saying that instead, "we're not going to buy anything. We're going to have it. We're going to keep it, and we're going to make sure that there's going to be peace, and there's not going to be any problem, and nobody's going to question it."

"We’re going to take it, we’re going to hold it, we’re going to cherish it," Trump said about the coastal enclave. "We'll have lots of good things built there, including hotels and office buildings and housing and other things, and we'll make that site into what it should be.

He has also recently said that he wants 500 billion dollars worth of minerals from Ukraine. I would take that as a threat if I were Zelinsky.

I think Zelensky is willing to trade minerals for weapons

Treasury Secretary Bessent to Visit Zelensky in Ukraine

From the article:

" Trump has said he is open to supplying Ukraine with more weapons in exchange for access to  the country’s mineral resources . “They have tremendously valuable land in terms of rare earths, in terms of oil and gas, in terms of other things,” Trump said in a Fox News interview, which aired in full on Monday."

So what do you think about Trump's notion of the USA taking control of Gaza, relocating the population, rebuilding, and turning it into the Riviera of the Middle East?

Is this sensible to you?

40% of the rare earth minerals are already behind Russian front lines

20% are in active war zones.

So only 200 Billion may be accessible by American mining companies.

Who is going to protect the companies and their operations?

Ukraine has strict mining and drilling regulations to prevent it from ending up like

Saskatchewan, Canada or Midland Texas.

What is left for the Gaza people to return to?

Pretty much a bombed-out waste land, a pile of rubble with no infrastructure. utilities, or resources.

I doubt that what's left of Hamas has the where with all or desire to rebuild anything except more tunnels.

Trump threatens Egypt and Jordan by talking about withholding all aid if they don't participate in his GAZA Plans.

Then he says he need not threaten either country because "I think we are above that".

Jordan did agree to take in 2,000 critically ill children from the Gaza camps.

It's also looney tunes to expect American mining and oil drilling to commence in the Ukraine without serious defenses.

The random drones and missile attacks will inevitably kill more Americans.

I don't think theres a chance of that ever happening.

This is how he negotiates. He asks for something he doesn't want, tells you how much he wants it and then backs down to get what he wants.  It's a way of resetting the dynamics so we aren't starting from the Obama/Biden point of "Hamas, will you please take this many billions and promise not to kill any civilians for a while so we can  pressure Israel to give you  a even bigger state than the one you already turned down?"

Gazapalooza?

Way back when Gaza was still occupied by Israel, there were some luxury hotels on the ocean. There were also a lot of luxury houses, many of them owned by prosperous Gazans.

But the Israel pulled out totally and things went downhill rapidly.

But the Israel pulled out totally and things went downhill rapidly.

Gaza was fairly prosperous under Israeli occupation, and was a significant exporter of flowers to Europe and many other products from their vast greenhouses.

But then israel completely withdrew, abandoning everything-- all the settlements, all the greenhouses, etc:

Looters strip Gaza greenhouses

Palestinians looted dozens of greenhouses on Tuesday, walking off with irrigation hoses, water pumps and plastic sheeting in a blow to fledgling efforts to reconstruct the Gaza Strip.
American Jewish donors had bought more than 3,000 greenhouses from Israeli settlers in Gaza for $14 million last month and transferred them to the Palestinian Authority. Former World Bank President James Wolfensohn, who brokered the deal, put up $500,000 of his own cash.

Knowing the histroy of Gaza, it should come as no surprise that neither Egypt nor Jordan would want to take in these people.

(I have no idea why Trump is saying what he's saying about Gaza-- he seems to have no idea of the history...)

The problem with Gaza is the Gazans, what to do with them?  Nobody wants them and it seems that mostly people who want something to protest and  have a cause to use act like they care about them

No one has the right to "do" anything "with them".

A basic outline for Gaza going forward:

1.  Ensure Israel's border security

2.  Massive investment in rebuilding and reconstruction by the Arab states

3.  Creation of a functioning civil society by and for the residents of Gaza

This will all take many years of hard work.

Trump's idiotic comments about Gaza are just that, idiocy.

In addition to the fact that apparently most Gazans don't want to leave-- and anyway very few, if any, countries would want them--  I've heard some estimates of the cost of fixing up Gaza-- its astronomical!

I had assumed that the real reason Trump wants Gaza is not out of compassion for the people there, but rather his belief in the possibility for him (and/or Jared of course) to build lucrative resorts right next to the water.

But now I think I was wrong. He keeps mentioning the water-- but now I'm thinking in reality its not about what could be built next to the water-- but rather its about what I'm guessing is the value of what's under the water there!

Of course I really don't know for sure. Just guessing. It could be one, the other-- or maybe both.

Gaza was quite different before the israelis ended their occupation. The Gazans had a higher standard of living then the average Egyptians... and some very expensive housing for well off Palestinians)..The Israelis provided relatively well paying jobs.
