US abortion trends have changed since landmark 1973 ruling
The abortion landscape has changed in the United States since the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision in 1973.

50 years.  Democrats have been fear mongering and dividing the country over abortion for 50 years.  Democrats had 50 years to address the issue of abortion at the Federal level.  Joe Biden began his Senate career in 1973; the same year as the Roe v. Wade decision.  What has Joe Biden done?

After 50 years it's pretty apparent that Democrats have only been using the issue of abortion to win elections -- and -- nothing else.  For 50 years Democrats have claimed to be protecting the rights of women.  Yet here we are 50 years with Democrats fear mongering and dividing the country over abortion.  Democrats have done nothing.  Today's Democrats can't even tell us what a woman is.  Are Democrats protecting the rights of pregnancy impaired individuals?

The inconvenient facts are that there is less need for abortion today.  94 pct of abortions are done during the first trimester.  And over half of those abortions are performed with the abortion pill.  Abortion clinics can't obtain enough revenue from performing abortions to continue operating.  Abortion clinics are facing the same challenges as rural hospitals.  And Democrats fear mongering over Roe v. Wade to win elections won't address that problem.

Democrats kicking the can for 50 years just so Democrats can protect a campaign issue hasn't done a damned thing to protect anyone's rights.  Democrats don't want people to know the facts because they're too inconvenient.  A Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade is a dire threat to Democrats because the voting public will expect Democrats to do something.  And Democrats will expend a lot of effort to avoid doing anything just as they have for the last 50 years.

The abortion landscape has changed in the United States since the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. A leaked draft of a Supreme Court decision suggests a majority of justices support throwing out that ruling, which legalized abortion nationwide.

The most comprehensive abortion data is collected by the Guttmacher Institute, a research group that supports abortion rights. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also compiles data but not all states, including California, submit reports.

Here's what is known:

—About 630,000 abortions were reported to the CDC in 2019 although information from some states is missing.

—Abortion numbers have been falling since a peak of 1.6 million in 1990 and the trend coincides with declining pregnancy rates.

—Nearly all abortions — almost 94% — were performed at or before 13 weeks of pregnancy.

—Women in their 20s make up the bulk of abortion patients, or about 57% in 2019, CDC data show.

—In 1973, there were more than 160 pregnancies per 1,000 women in their 20s, compared with about 110 per 1,000 by 2017, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

—More than half of U.S. abortions — 54% — are done with pills rather than medical procedures. That rate has been increasing since 2000 when mifepristone, the main drug used, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The preliminary rate, from 2020, will be updated later this year but is expected to remain above 50%, according to Guttmacher.

—Almost three-quarters of all abortions in 2019 were in Blacks and white women. Black women had the highest rate — almost 24 abortions per 1,000 women; white women had the lowest, at almost 7 per 1,000 women. The CDC data on race is from 30 areas that reported race and ethnicity.

—Most women who have abortions — about 60% — have at least one child, according to CDC's 2019 data.

Democrats can boast of doing nothing for the last 50 years.  Abortion is nothing more than a campaign issue to win elections.  Maybe it's time for Democrats to demand more from their own party.  But that would require Democrats actually doing something which isn't in the Democrats' playbook.

It's not 1973.  Why are Democrats still protesting 50 years later?  The only thing that's been needed has been Federal legislation.  And Democrats couldn't get it done in 50 years.

Yes, your post lists the Democrats' justification for abortion.  A child does need care and attention.  A child does need support that requires money.  A child does place responsibilities upon a parent and upon society.  All of that is true.  And your post provides the liberal litany for killing the unborn before they can become a burden on individuals or society.

The unborn have no rights to defend according to liberals Democrats.  Democrats tell us the unborn do not have the right to exist.  What are liberal Democrats protecting with unfettered abortion?   Money?  Freedom from responsibility?  Irresponsible behavior without consequences?
