A House Republican is demanding that foreign flags be banned from the halls of Congress while criticizing Michigan Democratic congresswoman Rashida Tlaib for having a Palestinian one hanging outside her Washington D.C. office.

GOP Ohio congressman Max Miller introduced a measure on Monday to "end this silliness" and ban any flag that is not that of the United States, one if its territories, or the POW/MIA flag, from being displayed in the Capitol building,

Miller discussed his amendment on X, formerly Twitter, while sharing a post from Reese Gorman, a reporter from conservative news site the Washington Examiner. Gorman posted a picture of the office of Tlaib, who is of Palestinian descent, with the flag outside, in the wake of the Islamist militant group Hamas' large-scale attack on Israel which has left nearly 1,600 dead on both sides, according to the Associated Press.

Tlaib has frequently criticized the Israeli government, and has accused it of being an "apartheid state." In a statement on Sunday, Tlaib said she grieves for the "Palestinian and Israeli lives" lost during the attacks and suggested the way to end the violence is by "lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, and dismantling the apartheid system."

Writing on social media, Rep. Miller said: "The halls of Congress belong to America. They should be reserved for flags that embody our great nation.

"The Palestinian flag should not have a place here. That's why I sponsored an appropriations amendment to end this silliness."

Tlaib's office has been contacted for comment via email.

The Palestinian flag has been hanging outside Tlaib's office for several months. In January, near the start of the new congressional term, Tlaib posted a picture of her next to the flag on social media while criticizing the Israeli government.

"Palestinians may be banned from flying their flag under an apartheid government, but we can still proudly do it at my office," Tlaib wrote. "I'm proud to be a Palestinian American and I want the Palestinian people to know that not all Americans support apartheid. No one can erase our existence."

Hamas, designated a terrorist group by the U.S. and the European Union, has its own distinct flag which is separate from the Palestinian one outside of Tlaib's office.

Elsewhere, Michael Herzog, the ambassador of Israel to the U.S., condemned Tlaib for her statement in the wake of Hamas launching its attack on Saturday.

"How much more blood needs to be spilled for you to overcome your prejudice and unequivocally condemn Hamas, a U.S.-designated terror organization?" Herzog posted on X.

"Hundreds of innocent Israeli civilians massacred in cold blood on a holy day. Babies kidnapped from their mother's arms and taken to Gaza. An 85-year-old woman in a wheelchair and a Holocaust survivor taken hostage. Is that not enough, Tlaib?"

She should have put this IN her office at the very least. Guess she thinks it means something out there for everyone to see. Well, she is right and, just like herself, it ain't pretty.

She clearly indicated where her loyalty lies during her election celebration when rather than wrapping herself in The Stars and Stripes, she wrapped herself in the Palestinian flag.

Terrorist infiltration of our own U.S. congress, as voted in by ignorant voters. They are a sophisticated bunch for sure, to get US citizens to get them into this country and leading them at that. WOW !

She is entitled to believe what she wants to believe, it's a free country. But.......on this issue, I don't agree with her one bit. Hamas needs to be wiped from the map, permanently.

Isn't it interesting that the same people who want to allow the Confederate Civil War flag to be flown in front of governmental offices are opposed to flying the Palestinian flag?

One flag represents an enemy of the United States, the other an enemy of Israel.

I dont think she should be flying a Palestinian flag in her United States House of Representatives congressional office.

But what is wrong with flying a Palestinian flag in general?  I havent seen her voice approval for hamas attack on Israel, and until that happens she can  fly any flag she wants.

We have so many people in this country who hate Palestinians, I guess for existing.

Apparently, their North African and Arab neighbors don't much care for them either.

What do you suggest ?

The hard right Israeli government offers the Palestinians three choices. And only these three

1. Leave Israel

2. Accept permanent second class citizen status.

3. Or stay and provoke the Israeli military response and be totally crushed.

Which of these options do you suggest they take ?

A Palestinian state is nowhere in the thinking of the hard right Israeli government.

Oslo is a good start point.

Agree, but they won't be in power for ever.  The Palestinians have failed to take advantage when there was opportunities.

A Palestinian state is nowhere in the thinking of the hard right Israeli government.

Agree.  The Saudi-Israel negotiation might have led to the PA getting back more f the West Bank but that's probably off the table for a while.

After this last weekend, any Israel government will be rightly paranoid for some time.

They will not believe that the PA can keep the West Bank from being taken over by Hamas and that would put dedicated terrorist only a few K's from  Tel-Aviv. Israel will also realize that that a Palestinian demilitarized state can't be enforced.  After this Hamas attack, Israel’s security requirements will be extremely difficult to reconcile with a Hamas-Palestinian sovereign state.

I think that it will take a major geostrategic shift to force the sides to serious bargaining. Maybe a successful Arab/Palestinian Spring or major war between Israel and Iran and Hizballah.

Until then, I think that the killing and destruction will continue to get uglier.  The second  intifada greatly weakened Israel’s peace constituency and shifted popular opinion to the right. Waves of civilians targeted by suicide bombers led most/many more Israelis to turn their back on the Palestinians as have their Arab neighbors.  This attack is the intifada on steroids.  Security with better walls to try to bottle up Hamas is what most Israelis will be thinking about in the foreseeable future.

Oh PLEASE, John.  You know damn well the Palestinians were offered 95% of what they demanded and they walked away from the table.  Then they were offered 97% of what they demanded and they wouldn't even negotiate.  The only thing that will satisfy the Palestinians is 100% of ALL of Israel, so if you want to stick up for terrorists, you don't belong here.

Living where I do on the AZ/Mexico border I see lots of vehicles with either Arizona or Sonora Mexico plates that have Mexico flags draped across the hood of their vehicles or draped in front of their houses. A lot of residents disagree but it is not illegal.

Tlaib flying that Palestinian flag in the Capital bldg is disrespectful and definitely shows divided/questionable loyalty to the United States.

I do not think it is so much a question of hating Palestinians for existing and being Palestinians as it is for their belief in certain ideologies/theologies they espouse in coming here and telling Americans here how much they hate them just for being Americans and not sharing their religious beliefs, and I have run into plenty that have.
