A video claiming to show a large group of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border has sparked outrage among MAGA politicians and activists.

The video, posted by Fox News journalist Bill Melugin, shows a crowd of people standing together in groups. Melugin said the footage was shared to him by a contact from Eagle Pass, Texas, and that the people were migrants waiting to be processed by Border Patrol "after they crossed illegally today." Newsweek has emailed representatives from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday to comment on this story. We have as yet been unable to verify the circumstances of the footage.

Immigration and the border has emerged as a key political issue ahead of next year's presidential election, with President Joe Biden facing bipartisan backlash over soaring numbers of migrants entering the country. There were more than 2.475 million encounters at the southern border in the fiscal year 2023, an increase from about 2.378 million in fiscal year 2022, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Arizona Senate hopeful and former TV anchorKari Lake shared the video on X, formerly Twitter, and wrote, "Deadly, Destructive, Dead-end Democrat policies caused this," before adding: "Let's vote to put America first in November."

Let's vote to put America first in November. https://t.co/ZjARwXURkOhttps://t.co/6emPihNY4P

— Kari Lake (@KariLake) December 19, 2023

Republican Senator Ted Cruz posted: "This is outrageous. Democrats have allowed an invasion to go unchecked at our southern border.

"Every single Democrat politician is responsible for this. Hold them all accountable," Cruz added.

Monica Crowley, former assistant secretary of the Treasury, wrote: "The ongoing intentional destruction of America."

David Giglio, a Republican candidate for next year's House of Representatives elections, wrote: "Send them all back and implement a complete moratorium on all forms of immigration until the border is closed, the wall is finished, eVerify is the law of the land, and new system/process is put into place."

It comes as GOP frontrunner Donald Trump unveiled plans during a Nevada rally on Sunday to have federal law enforcement protect the southern border and relocate troops stationed overseas.

"I will shift massive portions of federal law enforcement to immigration enforcement, including parts of the DEA, ATF, FBI and DHS," Trump said in Reno. "And I will make clear that we must use any and all resources needed to stop the invasion of our country, including moving thousands of troops currently stationed overseas in countries that don't like us."

Meanwhile, in a New Hampshire rally on Saturday, Trump said immigrants are "poisoning the blood of our country," in comments that led Biden campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa to accuse Trump of having "parroted Adolf Hitler." The former president has previously denied his rhetoric has anything to do with the German dictator.

On Monday, Texas enacted a law that will allow police officers to arrest those crossing the border, with punishments ranging from fines to jail time. It will come into effect in March 2024.

Liberal "ho-hum" policies in full action?

Shocking,  thousands of illegals lined up for the Biden admin to release them into the country.

the reporting fits in with a discussion yesterday. It’s framed to make it seem like only MAGA could possibly take issue with this, knowing the word “maga” has a negative association moderates.  It hopes to push the low information voter into accepting the situation and seeing any opposition as extremist.

the reality is, as a Gander at Twitter or a poll will tell you, non maga people also oppose open borders and the government conspiring with illegals to release them into the interior.  The ultimate result is MAGA, when used by a progressive, is anyone who opposes open borders, tent cities and unlimited illegal migration.

After three years of Biden’s border policies:

BREAKING: Per CBP sources, there were more than 12,600 migrants encountered at the southern border in the last 24 hours, the highest single day total ever recorded. The true number is *significantly* higher because there are thousands still waiting to be processed in Eagle Pass and they do not count in the numbers until they are put into the computers.

For the simple minded labeling somebody "maga" is, somehow, their way of calling somebody "racist" or "facscist".  Somehow they see it as a slur of some kind.

I think starting to call mothers birth persons even made the few level headed democrats left say it was taking things too far.

Unfortunately, we currently don't have enough level headed democrats to put a halt to the nonsense that biological males are the same as biological females.

In the near future, we may be seeing women arrested in the United States for speaking the truth and nothing but the truth - males are not females .

A female singer was arrested by police and quizzed over comments she made on   GB News   about 'trans-right extremists' weeks after she was 'cancelled by the music industry for her gender-critical views.

Louise Distras, 36, revealed on social media she was arrested on Saturday, interviewed under caution and released without charge after five hours in custody.

Ms Distras, who lives in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, said she was washing her hair in the shower when police came unannounced to arrest her.

'I was naked except for a towel and still had flippin shampoo in my hair,' she commented.

She was forced to endure the indignity of getting dressed in front of a police officer with a bodycam like a 'terrorist.'

Once in the custody of West Yorkshire Police she was photographed and had DNA swabs and fingerprints taken.

In her post on X, which has had more than 400,000 views, Ms Distras claimed she had been 'false reported' to police and then questioned about her comments on GB News last month in an interview with presenter Andrew Doyle.

She said police also questioned her about similar comments made in a speech at a Let Women Speak event in Leeds last month.

Speaking on GB News, she said: 'Everything in my life starts with me being a woman and being an adult human female right, so I stated this radical biological fact in an interview in May this year and since then the music industry has just shut its doors on me.

'The platforms that championed me have now denounced me as a Nazi and as a transphobe, I'm being threatened by trans-rights extremists, one of them tracked down my address and turned up at my home. I had to go to court and get an injunction.

'There is an ongoing police investigation.'

She said an appeal to her booking agency Midnight Mango for security at her gigs fell on deaf ears and she was told 'our position as a company is clear, transwomen are women and if you continue to publicly deny that transwomen are women your position will have a detrimental effect on your musical career.'

I don't understand how no one noticed until there were enough men in government to make laws that made teaching children about sex in grade school of utmost importance.

Possibilities -

Politicians using .05 percent of men with gender dysphoria as a distraction from things they would prefer to keep out of the news?

Pedophiles, who hold positions of power, advancing their own agenda to gain "legal" access to children at very young ages in schools so they can groom them at young ages?

Pedophiles are drawn to occupations that require contact and authority over children so being a schoolteacher, a coach, a priest, or a clergyman are all optimal choices that usually coincide with parental trust.

But the framing can backfire in a big way.  I mean, who really thought Trump could beat Clinton?

MAGA could come to mean someone to actually gives a damn about the country.

Democrats giving MAGA a negative connotation isn't surprising but, then, who believes Democrats any more?  No, the people to watch are the neoliberal Reagan Republicans.  They're trying to portray MAGA as a negative because they got theirs.  As we've seen with Trump's first campaign, MAGA has to fight the Republican Party before it can fight Democrats.

the reality is, as a Gander at Twitter or a poll will tell you, non maga people also oppose open borders and the government conspiring with illegals to release them into the interior.  The ultimate result is MAGA, when used by a progressive, is anyone who opposes open borders, tent cities and unlimited illegal migration.

Yep, Trump (and maybe the pandemic) broke politics.  The unbiased liberal press doesn't know what to do.  Those same polls paint a different picture about Biden's quagmires, too.  And people don't think Bidenomics is working no matter what the unbiased liberal press tells them to believe.

yeah, I was alluding to that yesterday when John said Maga could never unite the country.  It all depends on what "maga" means.  The more it's used in the context it was in this story, the more likely that becomes. But it takes time for word's meanings to evolve, particularly among very casual followers of politics.

I think it's clear we aren't there yet, and my guess is Biden has polling that demonstrates a negative reaction to the term among low information voters. That would explain his compulsive use of it. So he and his media allies use it to signal that the reader should disapprove of the "Maga" position as partisan and extreme. Similar to how left wing media always frames a Democrats being caught doing something wrong as "Republicans pounce upon X news" or "conservatives seize."  Saw it yesterday with the Democrats staffer getting caught making porn in the Senate conference rooms.  Instead of headlining is that way, it becomes "conservatives media attacks staffer for."   Any story that reflects negatively on Democrats has to be framed as Republicans creating a partisan issue.

Thus, instead of making this a story about record breaking numbers of illegal aliens entering the country, it's about Maga being mad about.  It signals to casual readers  that only extremists are bothered by record breaking illegal immigration.

Exactly.  Keep in mind that the political need to define (or redefine) a grass roots movement is to get ahead of a perceived threat.  Our political establishment depends upon two and only two political parties.  Any sort of grass roots movement threatens the reliable status quo.

Don't ignore the motivation of money in the skewed reporting, too.  The unbiased liberal press really does prostitute the truth just to make a buck.

They need to be educated that this was used by Reagan and then Clinton.

"Make America Great Again," like Reagan and Clinton | Psychology Today

Ronald Reagan used the slogan in his 1980 Presidential campaign.   Here’s Reagan saying it in 1980.

Bill Clinton spoke the words on several occasions, including his announcement of his presidential candidacy.   Here’s Bill Clinton saying it in 1991.   Clinton apparently forgot about this in 2016 when he proclaimed the phrase is   a racist dog whistle to white Southerners.   But then again, we have no idea what President Clinton’s interpretation of “is” could be for his accusation, given Clinton’s record of saying things like   “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is. If—if he—if ‘is’ means is and never has been that is not—that is one thing.”

A co-chair of President Biden's re-election campaign admitted that she is "afraid" of the effect the worsening border crisis could have on Biden's re-election effort.

Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas,   argues that Congress, and not the president, is to blame for the steady flow of hundreds of thousands of migrants across the U.S.-Mexico border each month. Immigration has been one of Biden's least popular issues throughout his administration, but Escobar suggested to Politico that he is only being blamed because he is in the White House.

"It is our job," she said, referring to Congress. "We have failed over and over again."

Biden campaign co-chair admits she’s ‘afraid’ Biden will lose big due to border crisis (foxnews.com)

While immigration reform is the responsibility of Congress (which has failed for many years to address) this ignores the EO's and rules issued by this Administration from the very beginning that brought about these record numbers in border crossings. This is definitely an issue that will impact the election next year, I'm just not sure it will be the primary issue.

What does immigration reform even mean?  Right now the Senate is negotiating over daily quotas.  Do we open the border for 3,000 or 5,000 people illegally entering the country each day?

Maybe Congress is responsible for immigration reform.  But the President is responsible for enforcing laws that are on the books.  Congress is not supposed to be a rubber stamp for a lawless President.  The type of reforms being talked about is how Glass-Steagall was repealed.  Simply legalizing the criminal is not a true reform.

Another article about what is happening at the US/Mexico border and how it is halting rail traffic into the US.

'It's a wide open border. Come as you please.'

Cleveland added it's no coincidence that Eagle Pass and another migrant hot spot, Lukeville, Arizona, are both seeing record surges at the same time.

'They will occupy us with a distraction in one area of the border just to get forces drawn in that direction, and then they can get through people or drugs somewhere else,' he stated.

'Cartels are shaping it the way they want for their advantage.'

In Eagle Pass, the migrant emergency is disrupting life for people who commute to and from Mexico everyday-- turning commutes between the two countries that used to take under 10 minutes into 11-hour waits due to international bridge closures.

'There's people who work on both sides of the border, and right now everything is at a standstill,' Pepe Aranda, who lives in Eagle Pass told DailyMail.com.

'It's terrible, especially during the Christmas holidays.'

Days ago, US Customs and Border Protection, the parent agency of the Border Patrol, announced it was   shutting down railways into the US   in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas-- in order to deal with the influx of migrants.

Aranda, who was mayor of the town, says the shut down will devastate local companies-- like Model beer, which is produced in Mexico just south of Eagle Pass.

'About 80% of the production gets shipped via rail,' Aranda noted. 'All of that is at a standstill here. We were crossing 100 rail cars a day just in beer. Now they're having to ship it by truck and they're using other ports.'

With so many livelihoods on the line and out of control migrant problem in their front yards-- there will be a price to pay at the ballot box, the Democrat said.

'The feeling in Eagle Pass, if there was an election today or tomorrow for president-- this is a high Democrat area-- Biden would lose.'

They closed the pass at Lukeville in order to move the agents to help out elsewhere. There's no time table to reopen that pass either. A lot of bitching as that was the primary point to exit the country to go to Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco) in Mexico. From reports, Rocky Point is almost a ghost town now which is hard as that's a city that relies on tourism from the US.

Just to flush out post 4 a little bit.

Estimated cost of the closure is close to $200 million a day; and affects both the UP and BNSF.

.

Union Pacific and BNSF railroads urged U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Monday to reopen the vital rail bridge crossings at Eagle Pass, Texas, and El Paso, Texas, after the agency shut the gateway due to heightened immigration activity.

A week before Christmas, the two railroads stressed the need to reopen the crossings to allow for the seamless movement of goods. The corridors represent 45% of cross-border Union Pacific business and include goods critical to the U.S. economy,   the railroad said in a statement , adding “there isn’t enough capacity at our other four gateways to reroute them.”

For each day the border is closed, Union Pacific said it is forced to embargo customers’ goods on more than 60 trains, or nearly 4,500 rail cars. The railroad added it is doing what it can to stage trains and work with customers to prevent congestion at the border.

“The longer this closure is in effect, the more difficult it will be for cross-border trade to resume,” the railroad said in a statement.

Luckily the Big 3 auto makers are down next week for the holiday. Who knows what their restart in the new year is going to look like. Hopefully the Brandon administration gets their act together and figures out a way to stop the illegals coming in on the trains from Mexico- w/o affecting the rail lines. Maybe force Mexico to actually not allow illegals to hop on trains heading north? That would be a start.

Way to go Brandon!
