During the first — and possibly the last — 2024 presidential debate between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump, the former president was, at times, fact-checked by ABC News moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis.
Most of the fact-checking at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, September 10 came from Harris herself, although the moderators occasionally fact-checked claims from Trump were blatantly false.
For example, Trump falsely claimed that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris' running mate, supports "execution after birth" for babies. And Davis responded, "There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it's born."
After the debate, some of Trump's supporters, including Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma) and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, claimed that Muir and Davis' fact-checking put Trump at an unfair disadvantage during the debate. Mullin argued that Trump had to "debate three people" instead of only one.
But Trump went beyond claiming that the debate was unfair.
When he called in to Fox News' morning show, "Fox & Friends," the next day, Trump called for "dishonest" ABC News to lose its broadcasting license.
Trump told the hosts, "I think ABC took a big hit last night. To be honest, they're a news organization — they have to be licensed to do it. They ought to take away their license for the way they did that."

This is the whole thing. Trump’s supporters aren’t mad that he lies. They aren’t mad that he spews the most outrageous, objectively false bullshit.

Sean found it in the 2019 campaign history. Since it was the law in California, Harris's position in 2019 was that she would support similar measures for Federal detainees.
What was left out was that in general it only applied to people with life sentences in CA.
Not people that were some day going to be paroled or otherwise released.

I don't. ABC let that traitorous pile of shit talk 5 minutes longer than harris and didn't kill his mic when they should have. taser wires should be attached to trump's nuts instead of a mic kill switch in the next debate.
The fact that Trump's constant nonsense was called out a couple times does not mean the moderation was not fair.

It was pointed out early on that each would get 2 minutes plus one minute to rebut. Period.
But Trump kept on requesting another minute to rebut Harris's rebuttal.
So yes, ABC could have been much more fair to Harris
and given her back the extra five minutes that Trump was allowed.
Other than that and just cutting away from Harris to go to intermission

In some ways, I fear we are just beginning to see the extent of Trump's insanity.

I have mixed feelings about moderators fact-checking a candidate in the middle of a debate. I mostly feel it’s the job of the opponent to do that. Unfortunately, on the occasion that they do defend the truth, it usually comes in some watered down version, like a simple, “that’s not true.” That’s not very convincing.
So last night, when Trump said they were killing babies after they were born, or that immigrants were eating dogs and cats that were pets of the people of Springfield, I don’t feel bad that the moderators spoke up, and I respect the impulse. The shit Trump was saying isn’t just wrong; it’s insane.
And incredibly, people out there will just believe it, without looking into it or even considering how impossible it would be. I guess it’s probably because politics has them so invested in being outraged over something.
All of Magas bullshit is over one thing - they want to "take their country back".
Back from whom ? Other Americans with the same rights that they have.
Sadly, there are still millions of Americans who imagine themselves superior to other Americans. They don't see people of other cultures who don't happen to be white conservative Christians as "real Americans". They don't see anyone in the lgbtq community as "real Americans", so they imagine themselves "taking back" their country from anyone who doesn't look like them, sound like them or worship like them, and Trump is their xenophobic messiah so no matter what he does or says they will blindly throw their support behind a proven liar and convicted felon who incited an attempted insurrection all because they absolutely HATE those who don't bow down to their white conservative Christian ideology.
I confess that I feel mentally superior to every trump supporter on this planet, and rightfully so ...
