Michele Obama once said when they go low, we go high. Harris forgot that.

I voted early, and have spent the last week and a half in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the big empty. Only reason I could post this is I had to find a laundromat  and a shower. Here are some of the things I'm chasing, keep in mind it Was taken through a spotting scope with a phone camera from. 1600 yards away.

I do.

Thing is here in the states, most places use hunting to keep populations in check and somewhat balanced by species If they need to do additional  culls they always have that option as well. But generally the scheduled hunts seem to work out very well.

I think that was a lot of it, but it wasn't only her, in my opinion. I think a lot of people wanted to hear what you wanted to hear but instead, got too much of the black Asian female schtick from the talking heads, and I think people got really tired of it. It's fine to be those things, but they are incidental, especially when no one can tell what her policies were.

Incidentally, I'm glad Harris lost but I'm not happy Trump won. To me, this was a lose, lose proposition. It just makes me sick that this was the best we could put forward. Populism sucks.

Pretty sure that whatever reason she might have given wouldn't matter to you, though. If road kill was the Dem ticket, your position would be any good and virtuous person should vote for it because it isn't Trump.

Also, it may be Trump got as many votes as he did simply because people are growing more and more tired with your sort of attitude and views. Calling people what they know they are not isn't going to win friends and influence people anymore.

Yes and no. We don't yet know what the final count for the House will be, and I truly hope that the Republicans don't take a page from the Democrats and attempt to abolish the filibuster in the Senate. But even if all that happens, SCOTUS did show in Trump's first term that they would not just rubberstamp any actions he did. There will still be the courts to hold him in check even if his own party won't.

And looking back at his first term, his bark was much worse than his bite. Or to put that into simpler terms, he talked a lot in his first term but his policies were not all bad and did a lot of good for the country. Not all but enough.

We have had terrible people elected to the office in the past and we have survived them, I don't think all is lost just because Trump won.

An amazing bit of trivia that I heard this morning was that if the Democrats take the House, this will be the first time in history that control of both chambers of Congress were flipped to the other party in a single election.

An amazing bit of trivia that I heard this morning was that if the Democrats take the House, this will be the first time in history that control of both chambers of Congress were flipped to the other party in a single election.

Recent updates are showing that the chance of the Democrats taking the House are slipping away.

T hough Republicans seized control of the presidency and the Senate Tuesday night, Democrats have held onto the prospect of a majority in the House—but now that hope, too, is slipping.

While it’s still technically possible, the Democrats’ last-ditch chance relies on flipping a significant number of GOP seats in yet-to-be-called races in western states like Arizona and California, while defending most of their own remaining vulnerable seats.

Democrats Losing Hope for House Majority as Republicans Eye Election Trifecta

This to me is worrisome as the House is a majority rules body that sets tax policy and budgets. Trump had proposed a lot of 'no tax' policies during the campaign and IMO that cannot be afforded in today's world. We not only have to get the damn deficit under control, but the current debt is just way too high and really needs to be cut down. I don't see how taxes can be cut if we don't make some major cuts in spending first.

If they do they be screwed in midterms.

Medieval man embraced the concept of the wheel of fortune to describe the frequent reversals of living in a time of frequent,  sudden catastrophe. Americans tend to believe in a world that can be sunshine all the time.  Politics is the embodiment of the wheel of fortune. What goes up will come down, and losses  lead to victory.

Some talking head made the point that Trump’s brazen mishandling of the two  Georgia Senate seats in 2020 gave Democrats a majority in the Senate. But that in turn caused Biden to ditch his moderate campaign persona of “return to normal” and pivot to trying to be LBJ, which led to passing of disastrous extreme bills that ramped up spending, increased inflationary pressures and alienated moderates, which helped Trump recapture the White House.

Trump will probably overreach.  Even if he doesn’t, he’s walking into a shitstorm.  The last jobs report was terrible and the government can’t prop up the economy by borrowing and spending trillions of dollars a year for eternity.  With ever increasing interest payments, and the need to save  social security soon, Trump could be on the hot seat quicker than he realizes.

Regardless,  the Republicans will get slaughtered in the house in 2024. Trump voters don’t appear to be high propensity voters who will turn out when he’s not on the ballot and the people who hate him are, so I’d recommend he take care of what he can now, because the second half of his Presidency will probably not be easy.

If Harris could stay on topic about her policies instead of always wanting to tear him down, I think she might have done better.

The Democrats holding out so long before realizing Biden was a real problem and dropping him, really gave her no chance of winning.  I feel that is why so many people played the gender / race thing.

Somebody had mentioned on another article that the nomination should have went to the person Biden beat out in the Primary.  Honestly that would have been the better selection.  But then we come back to the timing of dropping Biden.  I may have worked better for them but, that's mere speculation.

I would rather hear about what she intend to do about the border, fix inflation, and strengthen our ties with our allies. What were her foreign policies?

With the short time she had to campaign, she had absolutely no way of separating herself from the travesty that is the Biden administration.  She had no real time to develop any kind of policy that the people would support.

Honestly I feel she was in way over her head, even as the VP.

I know you are smart enough to know that.  His entire entrance into politics was based on his belief he could exploit the racism of the people who felt they were losing "their " country.   What do you think his racist birtherism was about? He wanted to run for president in 2012 but didnt have a political base. So he created one out of racist accusations about Obama. This is not speculation, it is fact.  He went to the front or near front of the GOP polls almost immediately and only fell out after Obama released his long form birth certificate proving Trump was an asshole.  Trump ran on white grievance in the very next presidential election .  The very next.   It was all one thread, and still is.

JR, I certainly know racism at a personal level much more than you or the vast majority of NT members, yes of course Trump played it to perfection, that is who he is. If, Biden had done what he had originally intended to do and retire after one term, IMO the whole presidential race would have changed. He did many good things in his tenure but it was obvious as hell he was heading down hill at the end and by insisting that he would run again he put Harris and any other dems that would have thrown their hat in the ring at a distinct disadvantage. Harris had only a few month to run vs Trump four years and she was appointed by the party instead of having a primary to select the canadiate, be it Harris or someone else the outcome for the dems would have been an improvement, win or lose.

Trump used all the proven methods, racial tropes etc and that was to be expected that is what the US has fallen back on for generations and Trump played it beautifully. IF, as I stated above the dems had done it differently  they could have fought the tropes on an even field and had a much better showing perhaps even winning.

this is on the American people.

Not all American people are filled with hate, racism, and ignorance.  However, fear of a woman sitting at the Oval Office desk most likely was stronger than their intelligence.

Yet, even the GOP voters who voted for him will regret their choice when the sh*tbell rings from the WH, as it will be heard around the world, and their lives, and those of their own family, will be adversely affected by their own fears.

EVERY demographic supports and voted for him?

With blacks and Hispanics voting for him at higher numbers than any Republican candidate ever.

Everything is racism for some. It's the proverbial carpenter with the hammer.

No matter how much the data shows otherwise, its racism all the way down.

Clearly,  they are all white supremacists too.

For some, the only authentic minority is one who meekly votes for the Democrat when white people tell them to vote for a Democrat.

There is no appreciable difference between Trumps black support in 2020 and last night,

His big gains were among hispanic males who are culturally attracted to all that macho bromance bullshit.

Looks like NBC has some contradictory initial reports. This data will get some deep mining as we move on with better analysis.

Now is when the rubber hits the road. Trump has made numerous promises and let see how that works out.

1. Stop the war in Ukraine without fucking over Ukraine

2. Let see how the new and higher tariffs work out for the US as well the isolationists stance.

3. NO TAXES…This should be good.

Those 3 alone should be interesting, the dozens of other ridiculous promises will show up sooner than later.
