Nine Republican 'traitors' vote with Dems to avoid government shutdown
By: Sierra Marlee (BizPac Review)
On Wednesday, a bill was passed to continue to fund the government through December 23 as America once again faces a shutdown.
The House of Representatives passed the funding 224-201, with nine members of the GOP crossing the aisle to vote with the majority of Democrats. Who are the Republicans that defied the will of their party?
- Liz Cheney from Wyoming
- Brian Fitzpatrick from Pennsylvania
- Anthony Gonzalez from Ohio
- Jamie Herrera Beutler from Washington
- Chris Jacobs from New York
- John Katko from New York
- Adam Kinzinger from Illinois
- Fred Upton from Michigan
- Steve Womack from Arkansas
Seven of the nine Republicans who voted for the bill either lost their re-election bids (Cheney and Herrera Beutler) or did not run for re-election (Upton, Kinzinger, Katko, Jacobs, and Gonzalez.)
House Minority Whip Steve Scalice, R-La., called for the House GOP to reject the funding bill, calling it an "attempt to buy additional time for a massive lame-duck spending bill in which House Republicans have had no seat at the negotiating table."
Social media users were quick to condemn the nine:
The expected traitor crew.

Traitors , signing another bloated bill to falsely prop up the economy with a borrowed house of cards.

One week?? Am I the only one wondering what these people do all year besides enjoying extended days during Federal Holidays! I also wonder how would they feel if someone decided to pay them for one more week! Regardless of political affiliation this is getting old!!

Dems wanted to cram thru one last bit of spending while they still controlled the house.

No, they want to add massive spending before power changes in January.

I agree with the republicans. The federal gov't is bloated. We need a 70% reduction in employees; elimination of the Dept's of education, energy, and the EPA. Congress needs to write laws, not alphabet agencies.

The current administration SHOULD be shutdown.

I'm fine with government shutting down. Probably won't even notice a difference until I need to renew my drivers license!

This is no news. Especially during a lame duck period. Don't act like this is some holy event. What does "keep government going" mean? Why don't you use your platform to push for bi-partisan reform rather then trying to force your opinion as fact because you are on cable tv.
