This is one of my favorite "Firing Line" episodes. It was 2 years after the 64 election and although we recall some of the players, it is amazing how some of the things that were serious issues then are still important now. Please note Goldwater's admission of what he would have liked to do with Communist China. Note that even back then, both Buckley & Goldwater thought China would become America's primary enemy.


What I also thought fascinating was the reaction to the new program of medicare and Goldwater's explanation of why he voted against 2 Civil Rights provisions. They both talk of the powers that LBJ added to the presidency. Note Goldwater's concern of what would happen if the wrong kind of individual ever became president and the ways such power could be used.
