President Joe Biden bragged Wednesday about defying the Supreme Court over student loans and appeared to slip up verbally in doing so.

The Supreme Court struck down Biden's $400 billion student loan forgiveness plan in June, ruling it was an illegal use of the president's powers. But since then, Biden has pushed forward with several smaller rounds of cancellation anyway.

"I went to the Supreme Court to eliminate student debt out there," Biden said to applause at a Bidenomics-focused speech in Milwaukee. "Guess what? The Supreme Court ruled against me, but I still got 136 million people's debt relieved."

While the statement raises prickly questions about the separation of powers, it is also incorrect, though it is unclear if Biden deliberately misspoke or simply mixed up a few of his numbers.

As of early December, the Biden administration has written off roughly $132 billion in student loan debt for 3.6 million borrowers. That means Biden overshot the number of people affected by about 133 million. But the numbers "1," "3," and "6" are found in the correct figures.

"The interest they're paying on that debt is something that prevents them from buying a home, starting a business, all those things," Biden added. "That's on top of erasing black history and banning books."

Just 40 million people hold student loan debt, so it would not be possible for the president to get 136 million people's loans relieved unless he began to focus on other types of debt, such as mortgages and auto loans.

Biden's Republican critics are likely to focus on another number — the roughly 290 million people who do not have student loans and who are financing student debt forgiveness with their tax dollars.

And, reading the article, that 136 million was off by 133 million. Better stick to the teleprompter...............or did you and you just have dumbasses for writers?

Yeah, simply reading from a script is a challenge for him at this point.   There was an article the other day in Politico, I think, about the panicked response from Democratic congressmen who attended the White House Christmas party and got to see Biden close up and trying to speak extemporaneously.  Seeing Biden live is apparently incredibly rare for Democratic Congressmen.  Jill Biden had to take over because he lost his way and it caused a panic among the Democrats who couldn't believe how far he'd fallen mentally.  Making it to election day is a huge gamble, no one thinks he can serve another 4 years.

There are approx 22 million people who owe on student loans. Repayments have restarted and according to reports approximately 40% (9 million) have not made their required first payment.

Nearly 9 million borrowers missed their first student loan payment after the pandemic-related pause ended this fall, the Department of Education   said Friday .

That means roughly 40% of the 22 million borrowers who had bills due in October did not make payments by mid-November.

For comparison, fewer than 26% of borrowers missed their payment in October 2019, before the pause went into effect, the Department of Education told CNN.

But borrowers who miss payments through September 2024   won’t face significant penalties thanks to an on-ramp period created by the Biden administration. During that period, borrowers won’t be reported as delinquent or in default   to the three national credit bureaus. But interest will continue to accrue.

So no penalties yet thanks to the on-ramp process but how many are not making payments in the hopes that their loans are forgiven? And here I thought that Bidenomics was such a roaring success.

And here I thought that Bidenomics was such a roaring success.

If you ignore people that can't pay back their debts, buy gas and groceries and the national debt it is a roaring success.  Joe has explained it many times "believe what I say and not what you see" but the American people are too stupid to understand it and it is a messaging issue.

"There are potentially millions more student loan borrowers who didn’t make their October payment due to problems created by their student loan servicers, which are contracted by the Department of Education to collect federal student loan payments."

My daughter falls under this category.  She has not been paying student loans since early 2020 but was ready to start up again.  She is a public school teacher and is under the 10 years and your loan is forgiven plan.  What is interesting is even though she has not payed loans for almost four years the payments not made still count against her 10 year payment plan.  In the summer her 10 years will be over and her loan under the plan that was implemented years ago will be forgiven.  Needless to say she is doing a happy dance.

I had a daughter who went into nursing and got the same thing (almost) except she went to work for Banner Hospital after she graduated and after two years Banner paid off her student loans.

Good for your daughter, I'll bet her happy dance is great.

I always found that hilarious.  The very people who have shrieked for the past 7 years that "Trumps a liar" always fall back with that excuse.
