Donald Trump would "greatly welcome" the demise of Project 2025, the former president's campaign said in an emailed statement following the news that Paul Dans, the project's director, was stepping down from the Heritage Foundation.

Project 2025 is a 900-page document created by the conservative think tank that presents policy proposals for a future GOP administration. Trump has worked to distance himself from the plan, which has proposed overhauling the federal bureaucracy, reversing many of the Biden administration's climate policies, rolling back abortion and LGBTQ+ rights, and bringing about changes to education standards.

The plan also proposes removing civil service employment protections for thousands of federal employees to make them easier to fire and replace with Republican loyalists.

"President Trump's campaign has been very clear for over a year that Project 2025 had nothing to do with the campaign, did not speak for the campaign, and should not be associated with the campaign or the President in any way," the campaign said in Tuesday's statement.

"Reports of Project 2025's demise would be greatly welcomed and should serve as notice to anyone or any group trying to misrepresent their influence with President Trump and his campaign—it will not end well for you," the statement continued.

Project 2025 has proven to be unpopular with voters. A recent Navigator Research poll of 1,000 registered voters conducted from July 11 to 14 found that only 11 percent viewed Project 2025 favorably.

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts will now lead Project 2025's efforts. Roberts commended Dans' leadership and said he helped the project accomplish its goals.

"Under Paul Dans' leadership, Project 2025 has completed exactly what it set out to do: bringing together over 110 leading conservative organizations to create a unified conservative vision, motivated to devolve power from the unelected administrative state, and returning it to the people. This tool was built for any future administration to use," Roberts told Newsweek in a statement.

He went on: "When we began Project 2025 in April 2022, we set a timeline for the project to conclude its policy drafting after the two-party conventions this year, and we are sticking to that timeline.

"Paul, who built the project from scratch and bravely led this endeavor over the past two years, will be departing the team and moving up to the front where the fight remains. We are extremely grateful for his and everyone's work on Project 2025 and dedication to saving America. Our collective efforts to build a personnel apparatus for policymakers of all levels—federal, state, and local—will continue," Roberts said.

Well I guess that settles it then...  After all it's not like Trump, his family, his staff, or anyone related to his campaign are known for lying to better his election chances...

Democrats have outpaced Trump on lying in both quality and quantity.

Have you or your friends found the "Pee tapes" yet? I am sure Democrats are desperate for them by now.

Putin hasn't released them yet, and won't as long as Trump follows orders.

Kamala claims she’s toougher on the border than trump. Seriously.

Reality has nothing to do with the Democratic campaign. It didn’t when  they started the 2025 fear mongering and  closing it down won’t change their talking points one bit.

harrris just is not  running a reality based campaign.

She busted out the fake accent as well there. It’s all make believe for voters who don’t care about anything other than her race/gender.

She did? I've not watched the youtube videos of that so I didn't catch that. Would have thought she could have learned from HRC that such actions don't really work out well. Might just as well keep a bottle of hot sauce in your purse...

Well to be fair, she has spent the last 4 years working with someone who isn't living in reality anymore.

They can share rooms with Biden, Harris, and the Democrats in the House and Senate that pushed federalizing all elections ; packing the Supreme Court; and now trying to place term limits and change how the Supreme Court operates.

Difference is the people who created the 2025 Project aren't currently in the Federal government. Wish the same could be said of Biden, Harris, and the Democrat Congress critters.

You mean the FBI/CIA are going to coerce social media into blocking Republicans (and anyone that doesn't believe as Democrats do) again?

Think they would have learned when the Supreme Court ruled against them after last time.

Oh wait; they are Democrat controlled entities so they don't obey Supreme Court rulings. Just like their master Biden.

ean just told me a couple weeks ago that twitter is filled with leftist content

Was that when you were peddling the conspiracy about the juror being MAGA?

Twitter is filled with leftist content. Even Kamala Harris couldn't deny that. It has all content from across the spectrum.

It's funny that you equate something having leftist content as being incompatible with all other content though. You should get out of the progressive echo chamber.

You’re right.  He’s going to lose worse this time since every decent minded voter in this country has had a suffocating amount of exposure to what a sleaze he is, and then he added the second swampiest creature in politics to his ticket.

Every comment on this article misses the point.

When "Project 2025" looked promising for him he played footsie with it, accepting the good effect it was having among the right and pretending to distance himself from it for the "moderates".

Now that Project 2025 is becoming an anchor around his neck he is suddenly "happy" it is fading.

This is kind of all there is to it.
