The Family Research Council (FRC) insists that – contrary to what homosexual activists claim – transgender-friendly policies and laws escalate the risk of women becoming victims of sexual attacks at the hands of men who claim to be women.

Setting up assault

It is argued by the Christian nonprofit group that so-called “non-discrimination laws” working to permit all people to use restrooms based on their gender identity – as opposed to their natural sex at birth – provide sexual predators with the opportunity to take advantage of the situation so they can partake in voyeurism and sexually assault women and children.

"It is important to note that the concern is not that transgendered individuals are more likely to be sexual predators, but rather that sexual predators could exploit such laws by posing as transgendered in order to gain access to women and girls," FRC attorneys wrote their issue brief. "Beyond this, when companies such as Target implement any-sex bathroom/dressing room policies, it encourages criminals to take advantage of these policies to commit crimes."

According to the legal group based in Washington, D.C., transgender activists have made a habit of discounting and denying the existence of reported assaults on women at the hands of transgender men entering women’s public restrooms. The attorney group notes that such activists have actually “scoffed” at suggestions that men in women’s facilities heighten the risk of such incidents.

A right to offend?

A list of 21 reported cases of women being sexually assaulted by transgender men has been compiled by FRC – incidents that span from 1999 to 2017 – with the most of the incidents occurring in women’s restrooms, locker rooms and other private spaces taking place within the past decade.

Target stores – which have been the subject of a nationwide boycott campaign led by the conservative American Family Association (AFA) for putting women and children at risk due to their transgender policies in women’s facilities – provided the venue for the latest recorded assault.

“The most recent case was reported on Jan. 17 by WPRI, concerning a man who mounted a camera inside the family bathroom at a Target store in Lincoln, Rhode Island,” The Christian Post (CP) reported from FRC’s list. “Umit Cakmak, 41, of Providence, was arrested by Lincoln police and charged with video voyeurism, with reports noting that the man already had an active warrant for the same crime.”

Just months earlier, a Target on the other side of the country was the location where another sexual predator staged an assault on a woman.

“In a similar case from July 2016, in Idaho Falls, a man who identifies as transgender was arrested on one count of felony voyeurism for taking photos of another woman changing clothes at a Target store in Ammon,” CP’s Stoyan Zaimov informed.

Call to stop transgender men from targeting women and children

AFA produced a similar list late last year to draw attention to how Target’s pro-LGBT policies unnecessarily put women and children in jeopardy.

“The American Family Association also compiled a list of 10 cases back in September to show why the retail giant's policies of allowing male customers who identify as female to go into women's bathrooms and dressing rooms is dangerous for women and children,” Zaimov added.

AFA President Tim Wildmon noted at the time that more and more women and children will continue to be assaulted at the hands of transgenders if Target continues to refuse to protect and value its customers.

"The overwhelming evidence continues to pile up against Target's policy to allow men into women's restrooms and dressing rooms in its stores," Wildmon expressed when AFA’s list was announced. "Target's policy is exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims – and the proof keeps mounting."

The effort calling Target to take pro-family measures and put an end to its problematic pro-LGBT privileges has caused a national stir – one that many claim is responsible for the retail giant’s uncharacteristic decline in profits in recent months.

"Clearly, Target's dangerous policy poses a threat to wives and daughters,” Wildmon continued. “Over 1.4 million people have pledged to boycott Target stores until protecting women and children is a priority."

Taking little heed of the warnings issued by pro-family advocates, Target responded to the controversy by refusing to end its pro-LGBT policies, while defending its stance to champion transgenders at the expense of its customers’ safety in bathrooms and changing rooms.

"We welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity,” Target declared in a public statement over the matter. “Everyone deserves to feel like they belong."
