According to Open Doors USA, Christians in India are in more danger now as violence in the first six months of this year has already doubled from 2016. In addition, Christians were stunned a couple of weeks ago when a pastor was killed in a drive-by shooting.

Rev. Sandeep Kumar is involved in the church-planting movement near New Delhi. He says extremists are trying to intimidate believers.

"They want to create a kind of fear into the life of Christians that they should not follow the Christ," he tells OneNewsNow.

Despite the murder of the pastor in Ludhiana (in the Indian state of Punjab), Kumar says the faith of believers in India is strengthened.

"Surely this has not weakened us but it is strengthening us and helping us to how we need to get together in the Lord and grow in the Lord and pray for each other and lift up each other in prayer," he offers.

"[In fact] this is motivating people to come closer to look to the Lord in prayer and to depend on the Lord – and the people are growing [as a result]."

He adds that in spite of the violence, the church is growing tremendously in rural areas "where the people are coming to Christ through miraculous intervention and preaching of the gospel."

OneNewsNow reported last month that a Kansas pastor has urged President Donald Trump to hold India accountable for the widespread persecution against Christians and other religious minorities there. India likely will be just one of the countries under the microscope of the incoming ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback. https://www.onenewsnow.com/persecution/2017/07/28/oppression-of-the-faithful-bringing-forth-fruit
