12.                    Something really unusual or weird

Appreciated would be verbal descriptions of the locations, occasions, camera used, special techniques, and why you consider them to be your best photos.

These are my choices:

Black and White: I simply could not choose between these two. They are photos I took about 40 years ago on Kodak Plus X film with my Canon F1 camera. I also developed the film myself and enlarged the photos with my Leitz Focomat enlarger. The sailboat was printed on a special silver paper. It was on the Ottawa River, just behind the Canada Parliament buildings in Ottawa, Ontario.  The train tracks are behind Dundern Castle in Hamilton, Ontario, taken from a hillside that I used to go to as a small boy to watch the trains. Same camera and film.

Colour: There is so much colour in China, but I choose this one with 3 main primary colours. It shows a monk meditating outside the White Horse Temple in Luoyang, Henan Province, named that because 4 Indian Buddhist monks on White horses brought the first Buddhism there. The Emperor was pleased with them and granted them the land upon their temple and monastery were constructed. Taken with my Olympus 760 7.1 mp digital camera.

Portrait: This portrait was taken at the wedding of the woman's sister, but the child belongs to someone else. A.Mac's comment when he saw this photo was that it was a magazine cover. Taken with my Olympus digital.

Landscape: This photo was taken while driving through Wales in the early 70s. Taken with my Canon F1 on Kodak Plus X B&W film developed in my darkroom, enlarged with my Leitz Focomat and tinted slightly during developing the print.

Night: This photo was taken in Chongqing (known during WWII as Chunking, where the American Flying Tigers were located) while I was visiting with the woman I subsequently married. Taken with my Olympus 760.

Sport: I really don't have much in the line of Sports photos, so I went back to one I took in Toronto's Skydome stadium in the 1980s and cannot remember what digital camera I had at the time. It must have had a fast shutter to be able to stop the ball that had been hit.

Human Interest: When walking through an ancient village near Naning in Guanxi Province I happened to see this and thought at the time that at least there's one person in China older than me. Taken with my Olympus 760.

Architecture: Again there is so much to choose from, but I like night shots and here are two, since I can't really decide between them. Both taken in Chongqing with my Olympus 760.

Floral: Peonies are the National Flower of China, and every Spring there is a Peony Festival in Luoyang, Henan Province. A few years ago, my friend Ed, known on NT and previously on NV as USA1 with our wives attended it and took many photos, this being one of them taken by me with my Olympus 760.

Kids:   Yet again I can't choose between these two. The first of the three boys fooling around was taken in the ancient village where the old lady was, and the second was taken while I went out for a walk near my home and saw these two girls all dressed up out with their mother, who gave me permission to take their photo. Both taken with my Olympus 760.

Animals/Birds/Wildlife: There's no doubt that A.Mac will take the cake on this one. However, just in case anyone has never seen a peacock with his tail fully opened, here you are. Taken with my Olympus 760 at a bird sanctuary in Chongqing.

Something really unusual or weird: These were taken inside a cave in Guilin, in Guanxi Province. It is the area where the Karst mountains are quite an attraction. To me the first photo looks somewhat like the skyline of a city located on a lake or big river. The second photo shows the lit up inside ceiling and wall of the cave. Both taken with my Olympus 760.

Now let's see what YOU think are YOUR best photos. It's not necessary to post for every one of the categories. I was quite arbitrary in making that list. Perhaps your favourite photo doesn't fit any of the ones I listed, so go ahead and post it anyway.
