Whatver Happened to Leave it to Beaver????
I dont watch a lot of TV, but have had some free time lately and found myself in front of the TV more than normal. Ive noticed something that I find a bit odd.
For some reason, watching other people work has turned into Prime Time entertainment.
I must admit, Ive watched Deadliest Catch enough to know what it is about, and to find it compelling. Though I would not describe it as Stop Down Entertainment for me, if I have the time, I will try to catch the new episodes of it when possible. I find it amazing that these men can do what they do with so little concern or worry. I was in the Navy for 6 years, and went through some extremely rough and scary storms at sea, but I cannot imagine going through some of the seas and storms these men go through. And, they work ON DECK during some of the worst weather imaginable. WOW!!!!
Anyway, lately, I have noticed that there are more and more shows that just film people at work. My wife is completely hung up on Swamp People. This one is another pretty cool show, showing these Good ole Boys from Louisiana that hunt and kill alligators for a living. (Whether or not you believe in hunting or killing is not the question, so lets dont ever make this about that, OK? Either way, you have to admit its an interesting livelihood)
Theres another about these guys who are in Alaska trying to strike it rich mining gold on old, used up gold claim land. Theres one about a bunch of guys in the Appalachian Mountains who make and sell moonshine. One about guys who log in the swamps. One about a couple of brothers who run a snake farm. (Dont get me started on snakes. I do not do snakes!!!) Theres a show about a guy who buys past due storage lockers and sells the contents. A couple of shows about guys who own pawn shops. No less than three about animal control / humane officers. They have one about guys (and a hot chick) who drive trucks across the ice in the Arctic. This wasnt good enough, so they took them to South America and made a show about them driving trucks on roads that arent safe for a bicycle to be on. They have one about a couple of guys who look for meteorites to sell. Theres one about a couple of guys who look for antiques in other peoples garages, and one about some guys who do the same thing but only look for stuff that relates to movies. There is one about a veterinary hospital, one about a veterinary clinic, and one about a Polish guy in Amish Pennsylvania that spends an inordinate amount of time with his arm buried up to his shoulder on the less desirable end of a cow, goat, sheep, or (on at least one occasion) an alpaca (thats a little camel, for the uninitiated).
And there are not one, but two about guys who own gun stores.
There is an old joke where a guy states: I find work amazing. I can watch other people do it all day long.
Well, the joke has become a reality, if you have cable TV. There are so many of these shows on there that I believe I could do nothing but watch other people go to their jobs if I did not have to worry about making a living myself.
Im not complaining mind you. Im just amazed. I actually am trying to find a way to get in on this craze while it is hot.
Im going to the Discovery Channel and pitch a show about a Vet who drinks moonshine and is driving a truck load of logs down through snake infested swamps to some gun crazy brothers who are building an alligator infested gold mine.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. They all have crabs.
ROFLMAO... Excellent articleCaptainKid! You posted this to your blog which is nice for your own blog, but for maxium reading, you can cross post to the forum, on the main page. You can see current blog posts on the main page, but not like in the forum. I would make this a habit.
BTW if you want to know what happened to Beaver, he's onAntennaTV! Check your cable station!
