Please, allow me to Introduce Myself.
Hello. I'm Captain Kidd. Some of you might recognize the name. Others of you, I hope to get to know.
First of all, Welcome to my place. Pardon the boxes and crates, Ive bee meaning to unpack those for years, but just can't seem to find the time. Careful that stack of books over there, its balanced pretty badly, and could fall over on you if you dont watch out. If youll follow me, Ive got a little pathway cleared back to the stairs.
Be real careful on these stairs, they are narrow and creaky. I really have to find some time to do a little bit of work on these things, but you know how hard it is to find the time. That hand rail is a little loose, so watch it, too. I ought to replace the bulb up here, but I keep forgetting. I dont know why I keep my office in the attic, but Ive always done my best work up here, and I just hate to think about cleaning it out and moving downstairs.
Oh, good! Heres my desk. Just move those old magazines and books off that chair, and have a seat. Coffee will be ready in just a minute, and will be on all the time from now on, so now that youve found me, and know your way through the warehouse and up here to the attic, here to the office, feel free to stop by anytime for a cup and to swap a yarn, hear a story, or listen to a memory echo back to me.
I am a member, and former pretty heavy contributor, of another Citizen Journalism / Writing / Social News website. I met up with Perri there many, many months ago. I was bouncing around the web a few weeks ago, and found this place and immediately got hold of Perri to ask a few questions and get more information.
I joined a couple of days later, and have been getting everything in order to post a bunch of my old work over here, and begin publishing some new stuff over here instead of the old site.
I write original material, mostly. Just musings of my own about my own personal experiences. I hope you enjoy these little ramblings of mine, and that, just for a minute or two, they take your mind off of today, take you to a place you used to be, bring a smile to your face, or just get you to stop and make you consider things, as the case may be.
Sometimes I do, however, drift off into a bit of a political area, and I hope that you will be as respectful of my opinion and the opinion of whomever decides to respond as I will be of yours. I dont appreciate gratuitous cursing and foul language, so please be respectful and refrain from using it.
Id like to thank Perri for giving me a new outlet, and hope that this endeavor of hers is a success. Perri, thanks, and thanks for the followup e-mail. I hope to be throwing a couple of brand new pieces up here in the very near future, and posting some of my old stuff from time to time, also.
So, sit back, and enjoy the tour through the dusty, dimly lit, cobwebbed filled spaces that make up my memory, and I hope you enjoy your time with me as we rattle around up here in the attic of my mind.
Wonderful introduction Captain! I'm so glad to have you aboard, (which is me doingcaptainkind of talk). I hope the move here was easy, and that you get your footings. Seems that your office is falling into place, and yes the stairs do squeak! I love the wallpaper!
This is a friendly lot, for the most part. People know each other and it's as much a community as it is a site. You should fit in really nicely. If you ever need anything or have any ideas about how to make the site better, feel free to speak your mind.
I look forward to both your classic musings as well as new material. As I said in your second article, please feel free to post in both the forum as well as your blog. Your blog does have an RSS feed, so that you can promote yourself else where on the web. We don't mind self promotion! To find your RSS feed on your homepage, under blogs posts, click the bottom corner where it says "view all"... it takes you to a magical new page full of goodies!
Anyway, Happy Holidays!
