Nunes Backs Down From Assertion Trump Was Monitored

The chairman of the House intelligence committee has backed down from his dramatic assertion that Donald Trump and his aides were "monitored," by U.S. spies — a claim the Republicans have cited this week in emails to loyalists.

Rep. Devin Nunes told reporters  Friday he can't be sure whether conversations among Trump or his aides were captured in the surveillance that has become a source of controversy since Nunes made it public in two news conferences this week.

"He said he'll have to get all the documents he requested from the (intelligence community) about this before he knows for sure," his spokesman, Jack Langer, said earlier.

Nunes continued to refuse to say how he had learned about the surveillance, including whether his source was in the White House.

Langer asserted that Nunes did not explicitly say Trump was spied on when he briefed reporters Wednesday that he was "very concerned," that "the intelligence community  incidentally collected information  about American citizens involved in the Trump transition."

As for Trump's assertion that Obama wiretapped him, Nunes repeated Friday what he has said previously, telling reporters, "That didn't happen."

There has to be an independent investigation. Enough of this House circle jerk !

My understanding is that only Trump can order an Independent investigation and we all know he's not going to do that.  That's why the FBI's role is so critical.  Nunes can continue to drop to his knees and suck Trump's cock all he wants but he's not going to stop the FBI from investigating this issue.

Not sure. I think it's the AG that has to make that call and I doubt Beauregard will do that.

I agree that an independent investigation is required.

''As for Trump's assertion that Obama wiretapped him, Nunes repeated Friday what he has said previously, telling reporters, "That didn't happen.''

He said the same thing before, on video.

As for Trump's assertion that Obama wiretapped him

Words mean something and we all know no one wiretapped Trump or anyone else in years.

That was an easy one for him to say.

Take this one:

If the Supreme Court throws out the federal health care law, it "would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress."

— PolitiFact National

Now that sounds like everyone was for it, but it received zero Republican votes and the majority of people at the time according to polls at that time were against it, so words mean something and the way they are said.

or take this one:

"I didn't raise taxes once."

— PolitiFact National

The word in this sentence is "once".  It is true if that is the way you want to take it.

Nunes is a Trump loyalist. This was his version (led most likely by the White House) of throwing a shiny ball of foil out to try to distract reporters from the real news of the day which was Paul Manafort being on the Russian payroll for, as basically a lobbyist, for $10 million a year. It didn't work and he had to walk it back. However in the process he just showed himself as a Trump sycophant who is so obviously biased he should be removed from the House Intelligence Committee immediately.

There has to be a way of moving this to an independent investigating committee.

The ranking member Congressman Adam Schiff is calling for one and so is Senator John McCain. I think that a 9-11 style commission, with subpoena power and the power to charge witnesses with perjury will get us to the answers the American people need to know. We deserve to know as a nation just how far in bed with Putin is Donald Trump. Just how much of a turned asset for one of nation's most determined enemies is he?

He is America's first Russian President.
