Oklahoma County Commissioner Kevin Calvey has named Chad Alexander as his pick to fill the spot on the jail trust vacated last week by former Lt. Governor Todd Lamb.

Alexander's name appeared on the agenda for consideration at Monday's county commissioners' meeting days after Calvey scratched an item regarding Lamb's resignation from the previous agenda.

Alexander, who spent five years on probation for cocaine possession in 2014, was an influential Oklahoma political consultant and lobbyist before his arrest. He is a former Republican Party chairman whose previous clients included the University of Oklahoma.

In addition to the cocaine charge, Alexander also pleaded guilty to illegally possessing pain pills without a prescription and obstructing an officer. Alexander told an officer that he was a Cleveland County assistant district attorney at the time of his arrest, presenting a badge from former employment as a part-time public information officer.

For the crimes, Alexander was ordered to spend five years of probation and pay $500 in fines and $500 to a victims' fund, as well as complete 40 hours of community service.

He reportedly also checked himself into rehab after his arrest and agreed to continue treatment for substance dependency, including attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings at least once weekly. He further agreed to conditions regarding drug testing for the first two years of his probation.

With successful completion of probation Alexander would have been eligible for record expungement, as is customary for first-time offenders.

Alexander's nomination for appointment to the trust comes after the unexplained departure of Lamb and at a time when the public is highly critical of the group's performance. Since the trust took over oversight in July 2020, the jail has been plagued by inmate deaths, failed health inspections and a hostage-taking in March that ended with police fatally shooting an inmate.

"I implore you to consider an appointment that would be a constructive partner and have constructive input into the jail, and not somebody that will further politicize and frame this issue, because that time we are expending in those tensions and contentions is resulting in loss of life," said activist Jess Eddy to the county commissioners' during their Sept. 27 meeting.

While Calvey makes the suggestion for Lamb's replacement, all three commissioners vote to approve the appointment.

Yes, butt she is a public figure now. You cannot get very much more out there than being Chief of Staff for Trump's failed reelection campaign.
