Sanders may have made a fatal mistake
"With the planet becoming warmer and warmer, with unprecedented forest fires, drought, floods and extreme weather disturbances, and when scientists tell us that we only have a few years to avoid irreparable damage to our country and planet, this legislation begins the process of cutting carbon emissions and transforming our energy systems away from fossil fuel and into energy efficiency and sustainable energy," Sanders wrote.

Yesterday Bernie Sanders may have finally gone a step too far in his effort to get the $3.5 Trillion BBB/Green New Deal bill passed. He wrote an editorial in West Virginia's largest Newspaper, the Charleston Gazette-Mail, in an attempt to go directly to Sen Joe Manchin's constituents. In the op-ed he says: "With the planet becoming warmer and warmer, with unprecedented forest fires, drought, floods and extreme weather disturbances, and when scientists tell us that we only have a few years to avoid irreparable damage to our country and planet, this legislation begins the process of cutting carbon emissions and transforming our energy systems away from fossil fuel and into energy efficiency and sustainable energy."  I doubt that moved the people of West Virginia, who depend on fossil fuels such as coal for their livelihoods.

The Sanders op-ed:

What is more important was the response he generated from Sen Joe Manchin, who obviously didn't like the political stunt.

Manchin responded with the following tweet:

Please note, that may be the first time Manchin has gone beyond simply criticizing the size of the bill. He clearly mentions "the reckless expansion of government programs."  That is the very point the left will never concede on. I think Joe has finally taken a position that puts this bill in total jeopardy and we have none other than Bernie Sanders to thank for it!

In deep red West Virginia, Biden’s $3.5tn spending proposal is immensely popular

Seems one of their interviewees has a real disconnect.

Scalise, 67, once worked as a welder in the coal mines, a good-paying job. Now he is a health aid for children with disabilities, making $13 an hour. He says he supports the Build Back Better plan because its proposed changes to healthcare will help the families he serves and improvements to the nation’s infrastructure will get more people back to work.

True that unemployment is exceedingly high right now; but there are also millions of jobs that are unfilled. Throwing trillions onto the fire isn't going to increase the work force (terminating the never ending unemployment and renters moratorium is what is needed); it is just going to increase the competition for what little work force there is. Expect the unemployment numbers to balloon as well as job openings; as those that are quitting and being fired over Biden's vaccine mandate add to the problem.

The rich are not going to be paying for anything. Democrats are not going to bite the hands that feed them; and they are definitely not going to bite their own. Biden is already pointing the way with his IRS mandate have banks provide records for anyone with over a $600 balance. I am sorry; even the poorest worker will meet that if they have direct deposit. If they were targeting the rich it would be a 600,000 minimum. The rich will do what they always do, game the system and offshore whatever they need to avoid paying taxes. Democrats won't care so long as the money continues to flow into their coffers. The IRS still will not have the resources to tax the rich; and the rewards for doing so will be diminished as the rich have high powered accountants and attorneys. Instead the poor and middle class that have any extra cash that isn't reported deposited to their bank accounts will be quickly found and audited- paying out penalties they cannot afford.

Also, anyone thinking that the majority of the 3.5 trillion is going to end up in WV; or anywhere in flyover country, is delusional. The Democrats are going to feed those that support them. Which are the large Democratic strong hold cities; and the key swing states that they need to turn fully blue to stay in power.

This is not one of those times for "We need to pass the bill in order to see what is in the bill".

Hayek warned in The Fatal Conceit that this is "a morality that pretends to be able to do something that it cannot possibly do, to fulfill a knowledge generating and organizational function that is impossible under its own rules and norms, then this impossibility itself provides a decisive rational criticism of that moral system. It is important to confront these consequences, for the notion that, in the last resort, the whole debate is a matter of value judgements and not facts has prevented professional students of the market order from stressing forcibly enough that socialism cannot possibly do what it promises."

It's the same uninformed hysterical fear mongering like Sander's that makes most American citizens skeptical of all the exaggerated claims the climate change crazies put forth. It's far down their list of concerns.

Right under gasoline rising to $4 per gallon.

Question: Is runaway inflation a tax on the middle class?

Bernie went too far by angering Manchin when Democrats need every vote they can get.

An ideologue will do that.
