Liberals Decry Free Speech As A Threat To Democracy As Musk Offers To Buy Twitter
70.4% of respondents agreed Twitter does not adhere to free speech principles. “Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy,” Musk then tweeted. “What should be done?” The billionaire also said he was “giving serious thought” to creating a new platform with “free speech.”

Liberals are the real threat to democracy.  Anyone who would engage in content control and limit free speech as defined in the first amendment is an open and deliberate enemy of freedom and democracy.  And they have the nerve to call freedom a threat to democracy!

Leftists are decrying free speech as a threat to democracy after Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced Thursday he offered to buy Twitter.

The Washington Post opinion columnist Max Boot tweeted he is “frightened by the impact on society and politics if Elon Musk acquires Twitter.”

“He seems to believe that on social media anything goes. For democracy to survive, we need more content moderation, not less,” Boot added.

MSNBC political analyst Anand Giridharadas compared Musk to an “invader” and criticized Musk’s promise to “unlock” Twitter’s potential.

Salon writer Matthew Rozsa said while he cares about freedom, he also cares about “factual precision” and said that Musk’s “attempted takeover of Twitter is a threat to the free world.”

The USA Singers, who describe themselves as musicians who “stand with Democracy,” suggested Twitter should tell Musk to “go fuck himself, then delete his account.”

“That’s how you deal with an out of control narcissistic bully.”

Duty To Warn, a group that describes themselves as mental health professionals warning about so-called “TrumpISM,” said Musk would “delete democracy.”

“If narcissistic right-wing billionaires control media, they control minds, elections and the world,” the group tweeted.

Democratic operative Jon Cooper urged Twitter users to “start a GoFundMe REAL fast to outbid Elon Musk.”

Whitney Dawn Carlson, who works in communications for the National WIC Association, tweeted a simple “fuck you @elonmusk.”

Axios, which styles itself as objective news, outright called Elon Musk a “supervillain” for attempting to bring free speech to Twitter.

“The world’s richest man – someone who used to be compared to Marvel’s Iron Man – is increasingly behaving like a movie supervillain, commanding seemingly unlimited resources with which to finance his mischief-making.”

Meanwhile, Jeff Jarvis, a professor at CUNY’s Newmark Journalism School, said Twitter “feels like the last evening in a Berlin nightclub at the twilight of Weimar Germany.”

Musk offered to buy Twitter for $43.4 billion after rejecting a seat on the board. (RELATED: REPORT: Twitter Employees Are Worried Elon Musk Will Unleash Free Speech, Possibly Paving The Way For Trump’s Return)

“The company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form,” Musk said in his offer. “Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.”

“As a result, I am offering to buy 100% of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash, a 54% premium over the day before I began investing in Twitter and a 38% premium over the day before my investment was publicly announced.”

“Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it,” Musk continued.

Musk has questioned whether Twitter “rigorously adheres to” the principle of “free speech,” with a poll he posted to Twitter finding 70.4% of respondents agreed Twitter does not adhere to free speech principles.

“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy,” Musk then tweeted . “What should be done?”

The billionaire also said he was “giving serious thought” to creating a new platform with “free speech.”

Good luck with that...

SAN FRANCISCO ,   April 15, 2022   /PRNewswire/ -- Twitter, Inc. (NYSE:   TWTR ) today announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously adopted a limited duration shareholder rights plan (the "Rights Plan"). The Board adopted the Rights Plan following an unsolicited, non-binding proposal to acquire Twitter.

The Rights Plan is intended to enable all shareholders to realize the full value of their investment in Twitter. The Rights Plan will reduce the likelihood that any entity, person or group gains control of Twitter through open market accumulation without paying all shareholders an appropriate control premium or without providing the Board sufficient time to make informed judgments and take actions that are in the best interests of shareholders.

The Rights Plan does not prevent the Board from engaging with parties or accepting an acquisition proposal if the Board believes that it is in the best interests of Twitter and its shareholders.

The Rights Plan is similar to other plans adopted by publicly held companies in comparable circumstances. Under the Rights Plan, the rights will become exercisable if an entity, person or group acquires beneficial ownership of 15% or more of Twitter's outstanding common stock in a transaction not approved by the Board. In the event that the rights become exercisable due to the triggering ownership threshold being crossed, each right will entitle its holder (other than the person, entity or group triggering the Rights Plan, whose rights will become void and will not be exercisable) to purchase, at the then-current exercise price, additional shares of common stock having a then-current market value of twice the exercise price of the right.

The Rights Plan will expire on   April 14, 2023 .

Additional information regarding the Rights Plan will be contained in a Form 8-K to be filed by Twitter with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Good luck to the board trying to explain to their share holders why they turned down Musk's overly generous offer. Most stock holders won't be woke morons and want a return on their investments.

Either Musk will own Twitter; or Twitter's stocks will be worthless and the company will tank. Either way it is a win.

If Musk is somehow rebuffed in his bid I will certainly sell mine.  Even at a loss as that would offset gains elsewhere for tax purposes.  Investors who own Twitter through Vanguard or Black Rock should sell as well as they seem to be using their holdings to prop up the existing regime there.

The reactions have been pretty funny. A lot of powerful people upset they might not be able to censor others opinions.

They get their power and sense of control from censoring and limiting content of certain points of view

“Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it,” Musk continued.

Musk is a business man, this has far more to do with privatizing and requiring a paid subscription fee and even more in your face advertising than it does about free speech. He's not going to offer up $43 billion just so the conservatives pushing for civil war, the Nazi's and other right wing extremists can once again tweet their rhetoric to inspire their right wing conservative fascist followers. This isn't altruism. He believes he has a sure fire plan to make some bank, that's it. Anyone trying to tell you anything different, even Musk himself, is either trying to sell you something or have convinced themselves they're victims of the 'liberal secular deep state' and see Musk as their savior much like they saw dirty Donald.

There's nothing scheming businessmen love more than a bunch of fat ignorant sheep ready for the shearing, and you don't get much dumber than someone convinced they're being 'silenced' yet have never actually been banned from Twitter or any other social media sites. These dim wits just rally around the handful of TOS breakers and hold them up as if they represent every conservative on the internet to justify their constant cries of victimhood.

Whatever, his vision of and for Twitter is far superior to that of the present version. I’m all for what he’s doing and risking some of my own investment portfolio to assist him in burning down the establishment order there

For many conservatives "establishment" is just code word for the educated and empathic. The 'establishment' is the antithesis of those who reject science, trust their poorly educated 'guts' and revere chauvinism and unproven faith over equality and studying reality.

Foil hat time.  Code word?  You seriously believe that nonsense?

You mean following the science in regards to covid but not about gender?  Those people?

Yes, those people.  My body my choice for ending another human life but not for which experimental medication one might be compelled against their will of getting jabbed with.  Twitters censorship like MBFC’s descriptions of organizations is very one sided and always against conservatives

If the left allows free speech people will soon find out just how foolish and damaging their ideas really are. People will see just how much they have been lied to by the left. Some like many Blacks and Hispanics are already finding that out.

The rebellion of the working and middle class against the bi costal tech elites has expanded into the African and Hispanic American communities.  We intend to make the founding of our nation, our history, the constitution, bill of rights, 2A and free speech, and all who believe in and uphold them the mortal arch enemies of the woke progressive left and their big tech social media allies.

It is clear that free speech and the 1st amendment are anathema to the progressive left elites and to big tech.  They would rather make us more like China than influence them to be more like we used to be in the days before “fact checkers” the bane of democracy.  Did any one see the Jack ass at the Washington Post who said that for democracy to survive we need more content moderation, not less.  He was on drugs or something.
