Colorado Gov. Jared Polis plans to send migrants to major cities including New York, Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday, warning that the nation's largest city is already struggling to deal an influx of people sent from Texas and other Republican-led states.

The impending move by Polis is unusual because Colorado is not a border state and both leaders are Democrats facing severe challenges over what they say is a national crisis around immigration.

"We were notified yesterday that the governor of Colorado is now stating that they are going to be sending migrants to places like New York and Chicago," Adams said during a radio appearance. "This is just unfair for local governments to have to take on this national obligation."

An aide to Adams said the mayor's administration was told of the governor's intentions on Monday evening. And while it appeared that Polis' plan entailed redirecting migrants who had arrived in Colorado to New York City and other metropolitan areas, the details on timing and the number of people who would be traveling east was unclear.

Polis' office did not immediately respond.

Like many major cities around the country, Denver has been struggling to provide services for a surge of people who have fled their home countries in Central and South America, crossed the southern border and sought asylum in the United States. Last month, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock declared a state of emergency and later appealed to the local Catholic archdiocese for assistance. He and Polis — both Democrats — also launched a fund to raise money to support services for migrants.

Thousands of migrants have attempted to cross into the U.S. from the southern border in recent weeks, in part because a Trump administration border policy, known as Title 42, was set to expire in December. The Supreme Court last week blocked the lifting of the policy, which allows the U.S. to expel migrants to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott over the spring and summer bused thousands of migrants from the border to blue strongholds like New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago, while Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis flew nearly 50 mostly Venezuelan migrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard. He claimed it was to bring attention to the border situation.

But in recent weeks, the dilemma at the border has become worse. El Paso's Democratic mayor, Oscar Leeser, declared a state of emergency in December after migrants began pouring into the city. Abbott also deployed hundreds of Texas national guard and state troopers to the border to stop people from entering the U.S.

A spokesperson for Abbott said in an email, "We are still only busing to DC, NYC, Chicago, and Philadelphia."

Adams said Tuesday around 30,000 asylum seekers have arrived in New York City since the spring in need of food, shelter and education — a surge that has has stretched the city's social service infrastructure to the breaking point and opened up huge risks for the municipal budget. Adams, along with the two Colorado leaders, have called on the federal government to provide assistance to localities dealing with the influx.

"No city should have to make a decisions if they're going to provide for their citizens — particularly coming out of Covid — or if they're going to deal with an onslaught of migrants and asylum seekers," he said.

Sounds like the only option is to denounce the claim that NYC is a Sanctuary City and force Biden to do his job and secure the border.  But that would mean stepping away from being a lemming to the DNC.

Funny that this was not a national problem until a couple hundred started being sent to his door step.

Lol. The desperation is really setting in now. The consequences of their own actions are staring them in the face so it's time to start the assault on reality.

Does this really seem like a good argument to you? Do you imagine people just don't remember which party has tried to improve border security and which works to support illegal immigration?

Do you think anyone believes a  President who say's the issue isn't worth his time is trying to solve it?

Everyone who isn't brainwashed by Democratic propaganda and can remember what happened yesterday know Democrats did (and still do) everything in their power to ensure illegal immigration remains out of control.

If only Democrats had honored their agreement with Reagan to secure the border and reform immigration laws so that illegal immigrants couldn't be hired in the US.

As for the rest.

Bush Sr was still waiting for Democrats to honor their agreement with Reagan. Rotten President; but great ex President. Seems to be a theme with the Bush.

If only Clinton would have forced Democrats to honor their agreement with Reagan. But he wouldn't force his party to when they had control of everything; then they lost control and he spent the rest of his presidency fighting impeachment.

Bush Jr wanted amnesty. Didn't learn jack shit from Democrats betrayal of Reagan. Again Rotten President; but great ex President.

Obama wanted DACA; nearly open borders; and amnesty. Democrats' slide to immigration stupidity. Had control of the House and Senate at the start of his term; but again Democrats care more about the issue as a campaign hot topic than fixing it and taking the blame when their fix makes the problem worse.

Trump tried to close the borders; and did far more than all of his predecessors to do so. Was fought every damn step of the way by Democrats. Had Democrats sending their minions to Mexico to help illegals file paperwork so they would be admitted to the US. Fought "Stay in Mexico" and Title 42 tooth and nail in the courts.

Brandon the Human Fuck Up Machine. "What crisis? What borders? It was broken when I got here! Republicans won't back my open border immigration reform!" Forgets he had control of the House and Senate and could have passed immigration reform; and Republicans would have no say. Again, didn't matter enough for Democrats to do anything about it. Fought and won in court to end "Stay in Mexico". Fought and won in court to end Title 42; but Supreme Court put a hold on ending it until they could hear Republican states arguments to extend it. Brandon has no replacement plan in place. Just spend more money to handle the larger number of illegals expected at the southern border. Democrats continue to ring the dinner bell; and illegals continue to flow in.

Deal with the here and now. Brandon the Human Fuck Up Machine is in charge. He has destroyed both our border security and immigration laws. Time to hold him responsible.

Seriously ozzy?  It wasn't Republicans, including Trump, that opened the floodgates at the border and encouraged the migrants to come here.

And Biden is not doing anything about it at all, not even helping the states on the border and elsewhere to deal with the problem of lack of facilities and resources.

Suck it up.

And which party halted construction of the border wall and is currently telling states to take down the measures they employed to secure the border?  Oh, that's right.  Democrats.  The same party that fought against securing the border for the past 6 years

So, why doesn't Biden do something?  Biden is on track to be added to the list of Presidents that could have done something.

Republican governors did not ship illegal immigrants to Colorado.  The emergency in Colorado is a direct consequence of how the Biden administration is handling illegal immigration.  Biden is not providing adequate resources to support his own immigration policy.  Biden is failing to do what every President on your list could have done.

Do you actually and really believe that a 10' fence, that is already rusting, and was cuttable with a $50 sal-saw, was going to secure the border?  Do you really believe that?

And you are upset that the governor of the state is being forced to take down his ILLEGALLY installed trashed out containers?

This is YOUR idea of a secure border????  Only the GOP applies a 12th century solution to a 21st century problem and expects it to work.

Exactly what do you want him to do that will stop illegal entries?  Be specific.

If illegal entry cannot be stopped (as many are claiming) then it becomes necessary to manage the influx of illegal immigrants.  Simply dumping them along the border doesn't serve the needs of these illegal immigrants.  Simply bussing them somewhere else doesn't address the drain on resources.  A pathway to citizenship doesn't address the drain on resources and won't be a solution.  DACA did not provide more resources to support immigrants illegally entering the country; the beneficiaries of DACA had already done the hard part.

The Biden administration is not managing the humanitarian crisis in a humanitarian manner.  Biden is only trying to score political points for his own benefit.  Biden is serving himself while not serving the needs of these illegal immigrants or the needs of the country.

Simply restoring the status quo to what it was when he took office would be a marked improvement.

Ahhh, immigration reform.  That's Congress' ball not the Executive branch.  While they have tried to reform the immigration laws, republicans have always prevented it.

Simply bussing them somewhere else doesn't address the drain on resources.

Now you need to specify, are you talking illegal immigrants, or asylum seekers.  They are NOT the same, and laws which apply to one, do not necessarily apply to the other.  So, specifics please.

A pathway to citizenship doesn't address the drain on resources and won't be a solution.

Drain on resources?  You understand that a major reason for lack of various items from cold medicine to eggs is a result of a lack of employees.  A need that can be met using these people you are trying to keep out.  If they have jobs, they are also contributing with taxes and purchases.

DACA did not provide more resources to support immigrants illegally entering the country; the beneficiaries of DACA had already done the hard part.

It was not designed to, it was simply provided as a step towards citizenship by not immediately deporting those children.

The Biden administration is not managing the humanitarian crisis in a humanitarian manner.

This is your opinion only.  This "crisis" of your was predicated by title 42, creating a larger and larger line of immigrants and asylum seekers waiting outside the border.  It did nothing to address the issue, it just pushed the issue to the next administration.

Biden is only trying to score political points for his own benefit.

Scoring political points would have been photo ops at the southern border.

Biden is serving himself while not serving the needs of these illegal immigrants or the needs of the country.

Again, purely your opinion.

All this says is confirmation of what we have already experienced.

No one administration, local, state, or federal…current or past, has adequately addressed the multi-faceted circumstances that must define the situation.

It is but a political football where each side continually fumbles and neither one cares to claim possession.

The current administration all but forfeit the game on day 1 when the Human Fuck Up Machine halted construction of the wall, then, again, when they fought (and lost) to have Title 42 lifted.  And we can't forget that they've gone to the extent as to tell states to remove their own measures to secure the border.

The blame both sides excuse is the last refuge of the desperate partisan. Both sides have not, and do not, share similar approaches to border security. Democrats have spent years using executive orders, control of the administrative state  and the super majoritarian  bias towards congressional inaction to create the current situation. This is what the Democrats have fought to achieve.

At least be honest and rejoice in it.

Isn't it frustrating to try and reason with people who pretend that the border is secure?
