New Orleans Mother Bashed For Supporting Her Child's Decision To Pull Gun During A Fight - Blavity News

A New Orleans mother is facing backlash on social media for defending her 12-year-old daughter's decision to pull out a gun during a recent dispute at school bus stop.
"I do not respect how my child is being held accountable for something that she was being bullied about," the mother said in an Instagram video, according to the SunHerald. "She was being bullied, so she pulled out a firearm. It was not supposed to be in her possession, though it was in her possession, so she pulled it."
One TikTok user bashed the mother with a video message, saying "this was ignorant as hell."
"Your child was being bullied, so she took a firearm to an elementary school to take out her frustrations and you're justifying this," the TikTok user said. "She went there to end somebody's life. She was not emotionally stable to handle that situation with a firearm."
According to WWL-TV , the incident happened on Friday, Aug. 19 when the 12-year-old student of Akili Academy, a pre-K through eighth grade school in New Orleans, started fighting with another girl on a bus after school. The 12-year-old girl allegedly exited at a bus stop during the fight and returned with what appears to be a firearm in her hand.
The viral video shows the young girl banging on the bus after exiting, hoping to get back on board, but the driver refuses to open the door. The child then appears to pull out a gun before leaving the scene.
Speaking to WWL-TV, a parent of one of the students who rides the bus said that the child retrieved the gun from a nearby car and came back to confront the other girl, who was still onboard.
Police arrested the 12-year-old girl and charged her with aggravated assault with a firearm. The girl’s mother was also arrested. She is charged with principle to aggravated assault and for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Police, however, didn’t say what exactly led to the charges against the mother.
“The safety and well-being of NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) students are our top priority. The District is aware of an incident involving a weapon and a student from Akili Academy. The school immediately contacted law enforcement, and the District has been in contact with Crescent City Schools’ leadership regarding this matter,” NOLA Public Schools said in a statement.
The TikTok user who spoke out against the mother said the girl shouldn’t haven’t been bullied in the first place, but “how is [bringing a gun to school] the solution to the problem?”
“How is it your daughter — who just screwed up her life before it even started — how is it that she is not supposed to be held accountable,” the woman asked. “You are about to be held accountable for your child’s actions. And you got on social media to justify it. So you really just put the nail in the coffin.”

Words don't fail me. What's the big deal? America is a gun culture, admit it, there are more guns out there than people. After all, what's good for the goose is good for the gosling. Lately there have been a couple of stories in the news about toddlers or pre-teens shooting their siblings. For a while I posted news stories about the every-day mass shootings, but that's not news any more. A day WITHOUT a mass shooting would be news. Ho hum, it's "The American Way".
