BUFFALO, N.Y. — If you're planning a trip for 2025, you may need to pack more for your hotel stay next year - than you did this summer vacation.

Starting in January, hotels in New York state with more than 50 rooms will no longer be able to provide small bottles containing 'hospitality care' products.

It's a new state law to help reduce waste. Small bottles refer to any bottle under 12 ounces.

According to the bill, "'hospitality personal care product' means a product provided by a hotel and intended to be applied to or used on the human body or any part thereof for cleansing, conditioning, or moisturizing. Hospitality personal care product includes, but is not limited to, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and liquid soap."

Beginning in 2026, all hotels in New York will have to follow the small bottle ban. Many hotels have already made the switch and have mounted dispensers with shampoo and/or body wash for customers to use.

I like that idea. Now I won't be filling up my own house with all these small bottles of shampoo

LOL, whenever I stay in a hotel I collect those and the soap bars, daily on extended stays, and then toss them into a box under the bathroom sink when I get home.

... uh ... I should probably look in that box, since I've had it for 25 years...

That is a stupid law, glad I am not planning on going there.  I don't like packing shampoo for a trip but like bringing some extra back to use

They come in handy on camping trips. But they are going to install dispensers in the showers

I've stayed at a few places that had dispensers, no big deal either way to me. I'd imagine it's a huge savings for the hotel operators.

Any hotel or motel that stops providing little bottles will provide wall mounted ones instead.  Have you not already seen these?  They’re already used all over the place in your state.  This is a common sense law.

Mr G came home with a ton of those bottles of shampoo and individual soaps. He got them from housekeeping at the Visitor's Quarters on base

Well, darn.  There goes my shampoo for when I visit my parents.  I used to take these because my mom always buys volumizing shampoo.  I have thick, curly hair. Volumizing shampoo makes me look like an alpaca, especially if the humidity is high.  Now I'll have to pack full-size bottles of my shampoo.

You can get travel size bottles at Walmart or drug stores. I have a small travel size bottle I keep in the camper.

My wife has never been to NYC or up the East Coast and the kids want us to go with them to Disney World... Maybe in 2026 we can fly into Orlando do that with the kids and drive up the coast after. We'll bring our own shampoo.

Finally, all the problems in new york will be fixed.

Of course people can always goto the nearest drugstore and steal some shampoo since no one will stop them
