Is there trouble afoot at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)?

In the opening weeks of the second Trump presidency, Elon Musk's dubiously constitutional government agency took a sledgehammer to the executive branch while making questionable claims about how much money it saved.

More recently, Musk sent an email to government employees, asking them to provide answers about what they do in their jobs. The email, which mirrors a tactic used by Musk when he took over Twitter/X, has led to widespread confusion inside the government, with some agencies telling their employees not to reply.

Now, there is a report of trouble inside DOGE.

BREAKING:

(AP) More than 20 civil service employees resigned Tuesday from Elon Musk's DOGE, saying they refused to use their technical expertise to "dismantle critical public services." pic.twitter.com/XXb9hBc3XA

— Republicans against Trump (@RpsAgainstTrump) February 25, 2025

According to the Associated Press, 21 employees of DOGE have written a letter announcing their resignations, stating that they refuse to "dismantle critical public services."

"We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations," the employees said in their letter. "However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments."

The employees worked for what was formerly known as the United States Digital Service, which was converted into DOGE under one of Trump's early executive orders. All formerly worked at major tech companies, per the AP story, and had joined the government with a "sense of duty." DOGE had laid off about 40 staffers from the former Digital Service in the early going of the new administration.

Also, according to the letter, personnel who did not give their names grilled them on their personal politics, while some "made statements that indicated they had a limited technical understanding."

This is what courage looks like. While so many stayed silent, these people took a stand. We need more of that—right now.

— Christopher Webb (@cwebbonline) February 25, 2025

"Several of these interviewers refused to identify themselves, asked questions about political loyalty, attempted to pit colleagues against each other, and demonstrated limited technical ability," the staffers said. "This process created significant security risks."

The letter added that among those who were let go were people working on important matters.

"These highly skilled civil servants were working to modernize Social Security, veterans' services, tax filing, health care, disaster relief, student aid, and other critical services," the resignation letter said, per the AP. "Their removal endangers millions of Americans who rely on these services every day. The sudden loss of their technology expertise makes critical systems and American's data less safe."

How 'bout giving us a link where Musk has been convicted and can be classified as a "felon" (as in under the legal definition - a person convicted of a felony).

We'll wait.

My dad was a dodge man, always had a Dodge pickup. If they are not set right, the gas versions that I drove were dogs that ate gas and didn't perform all that well, and if you got them to perform well, they ate even more gas.

my dad started out ford and switched to dodge because of ... cummins diesel, which his last 2 dodges were. during his transition the 1st truck was a dodge 1 ton with a hemi in it. yeah, it didn't struggle a bit going up the mountains when I drove it from denver to the western colorado border for him, but I recall it maybe got 8 miles to the gallon.

So do we. My dad hated those souped up pick ups that were for show only. He had a 68 3/4 ton Dodge that moved us twice, hauled pigs, cows, wood, coal, dirt, and kids. It had a 3 on the tree and was also his camper truck

A whopping 21 people that apparently were hired under DOGE's predecessor organization under the Biden administration. I can understand where they would be upset over things that are happening in the last month under Trump and Musk, but I fail to see how the resignation of 21 employees makes for catastrophic scenarios they fear happening.

And the pay AND degree of "necessary" that position is is what they are looking at. We have 150 employees, sales of $25Million per year, and no receptionist. people know your extension or it goes to the general line which is answered by someone in sales whose phone is available and they talk to that person to find out whom they want/need to speak with.

Your receptionist example ought to be making about $12.00 per hour.

What do you envision as a course of action that they could take to get results?

I know you took an oath to the Constitution at one time in your life. You don't have to agree with them but they felt they were doing important work and then were disrespected. They were being told to dismantle critical public services.

No, Sparty, I obviously have no proof that they were not lying.   There could be a conspiracy where they all got together and decided to just lie about what Musk is doing and then resign.

What is the probability of that?   What is the likely motive?

So do you think they were lying?

Yes, they may be 21 experienced government workers hired by Musk because of their expertise who are just (for some reason) incapable of understanding the big picture.   And they are so convinced they are right that they are willing to resign in protest.

There are always remote possibilities.

When information is scarce, I tend to go with what is most likely rather than outlier scenarios.

Maybe they should all go on strike, all government offices and workers all at once.

Then Americans can stop paying taxes altogether.

I mean they fired IRS workers so can't we march and demand the closing of the IRS?

Close the Internal Revenue Service.

Republicans are raising the debt ceiling by 4 trillion to give away tax cuts to the rich.

The wealthy don't pay or won't pay taxes, so why are Republicans giving them the money?

Rich people hate taxes and poor people can't pay and hate taxes, Musk thinks the government is useless so close the IRS.

Send all the politicians home, cancel all those Congressional salaries and cancel the Senate. Politicians are the most worthless employees of all right?
