Photographing birds can be entirely frustrating or hugely satisfying; I trash many more bird photos than I save, but, I consider each failed shot  as "one shot closer to getting a keeper".

"You Can't Get it Right Until You First Get it Wrong," is something I have told every photography student (young or old) I've ever taught. Consider a disappointing shot, one that the disappointee  is likely to look at and question "Why didn't this come out the way I anticipated"? And that generally is followed by some form of research, either, try-try-again with logical or random adjustments, reading-up, asking experience shooters … or, some of each.

In other words, LEARN FROM MISTAKES and stay with it!

I am self-taught; in 1983 I took a newspaper editor position (assuming there would be a staff photographer at the job). What there was instead, was a Canon AE-1 (film) camera in the drawer of the desk of the former editor.  It was "sink or swim," so, I learned to "swim".

Some similarities here.  I was the editor of my university's newspaper, first decent film camera I owned was a Canon FTb, but my favourite was a Canon F1 - great lenses.  My statement that your bird shots are Audubon Society quality continues to be applicable.

It seems imminent; Trump in now just ahead by fewer votes than those remaining to be counted in just Philly alone; and, those having been counted, even in red counties in Pennsylvania have been consistently coming in at 70% - 90% in favor of Biden. And there are thousands of other ballots throughout the state beyond just those in Philadelphia.

If Biden wins Pennsylvania, he's got the 270 Electoral votes to be declared the "President Elect." And there's a good chance he'll win Georgia as well.

This morning, Trump led Biden in Pennsylvania by more than 600,000 votes … those all in-person, same day (November 3 mostly). It's the mail-in ballots that are now being counted … and Trump's lead is around 40,000 with way more than that number to come in.

Also, in Georgia, there are TWO SENATE RACES, both of which will go to "run offs" in January since no candidate got 50% in the General Election. Given that it looks as if Georgia has turned BLUE, it's possible, that two Georgia Democrats could be elected in the run offs, which, would put the Senate at 50-50, AND IN TIE VOTES, the V.P. would cast the tie-breaker.

That will likely be Kamala Harris!

Goin' fishin' tomorrow and hopefully, I will catch a Smallie or Brookie or two, and after sunset, watch AMERICA BEING MADE GREAT AGAIN!

It does look like Pennsylvania is going to take it over the top.

Have a fun time tomorrow, catch a few fish, and definitely get home to watch AMERICA BEING MADE GREAT AGAIN!

I am so happy the nightmare is going to end.

The President appointed a crony to restructure the USPS in an election year while disparaging the best mail delivery system on the planet.

The POTUS decried the mail in ballots and the US mail system urging his supporters to vote in person.

Most of his supporters did vote in person on November 03. good on them!

Many of the opposition voted early to avoid Trump supporters.

The rest of the opposition either mailed their ballots early

or delivered them in person.

The President got exactly what he asked for.

Trump won an EC victory by three states, taking the blue wall by 70,000  votes in 2016.  (losing the popular vote by 3 million )

Now in 2020 he not only surrendered the blue wall and trails by 4 million votes,

he will lose the 2020 election because of the EC and 79,000 votes where it counts.

Biden gets PA and the rest of the noise is moot.

Mac, I didn't really care if Trump won or not, I only wanted an honest count of the votes. It doesn't appear that happened in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and some other states. Early Wednesday morning Trump had over a 500,000 vote advantage in PA with slightly over one million left to count. Strangely, in Republican districts Biden was getting over 70% and over 85% of the votes in Democrat districts, that's BS

Early Wednesday morning Trump had over a 500,000 vote advantage in PA with slightly over one million left to count. Strangely, in Republican districts Biden was getting over 70% and over 85% of the votes in Democrat districts, that's BS

The Trump lead was 600,000 BEFORE MAIL IN BALLOTS WERE PERMITTED BY LAW TO BE PROCESSED AND COUNTED!

Because Trump had denigrated MAIL-IN/ABSENTEE VOTES, his supporters DID NOT USE THEM; they overwhelmingly voted in person on November 3rd, AND THOSE VOTES WERE TABULATED FROM VOTING MACHINES THE SAME DAY … so, before absentee/mail-in ballots could being to be counted (BY LAW), it was virtually 600,000 Trump, ZERO (ballots counted) for Biden.

There were so many absentee/mail in ballots in Pennsylvania, THEY'RE STILL BEING PROCESSED … probably almost 100,000 still left to be counted. As the mail-in ballots have been tabulated, EVEN FROM RURAL AREAS, Biden is getting anywhere from 76% to 90% of them.

Democrats overwhelmingly voted by mail in Pennsylvania.

Again, the reason for Trump's early lead, is directly attributable to the law-required delay for mail-in ballots to be counted, starting the day AFTER "Election day".

I have given you the specifics and you calling "BS" without the knowledge of the process and the realities … THAT'S BS!

Democrats overwhelmingly voted by mail in Pennsylvania. Almost all of which were counted after Trump's initially tabulated 600,000.

Had Republicans in Pennsylvania not listened to Trump's rants against mail-in ballots, many would have voted by mail -- and those votes would NOT HAVE BEEN COUNTED UNTIL AFTER Election Day. So, Trump's initial 600,000 might well have been, say, 200,000  and the early reporting might have looked like TRUMP 200,000, BIDEN 215,000.

I'm happy to dialogue with you, but I never take a position without knowing I can satisfy the burden of proof if/when challenged. Have the courtesy to acknowledge that I gave you the time and respect of a detailed response.

One last point; Trump urged his supporters to vote in person on Election Day, knowing that their votes would be counted and reported first, that way giving him an apparent early, significant lead. But remember, all along he’d been saying that the results be known the same day as in past elections. So, he set it up to enable him to cry “fraud” when his votes were reported as polls were closing ... knowing it would be days before Democrats’ votes could even be counted!

Trump always tries to play people for being stupid enough to be conned.

Think about this con. And feel insulted ... because you and many others were insulted.

I challenge you to show the source of that misinformation; it is typical of the 20000 plus documented lies told by Trump during his administration. The most dangerous aspect of which is the willingness of his followers to blindly accept those lies and repeat them even after they have been debunked.

Please post the source.

It was the Republicans in Pennsylvania’s legislature who went with delaying the mail in ballots! Their majority could have allowed for processing to begin as ballots came in so that the counting could have begun when the polls closed. And there is the Louis DeJoy issue on top of all of this.

Democrats didn’t delay the count, Republicans did that, and they lost in court 6 times to in efforts to try to prevent much of the count itself.

You’ve been deceived and it seems you’re content with that.

Biden lost Miami-Dade … and I hope that this video leads to some recounts therein.

This was a house that I loved. Was right by the Biloxi lighthouse. This was the one that was taken by Katrina. Only one wall was left standing, the wall with the original fireplace. It was originally built in 1917, if I remember correctly.

I loved the old wood floors and the 14 ft high ceilings. Looks kinda plain in these pics but to me the house was beautiful. I miss it.

I went from old world charm to a basic ranch. The ranch feels like a box in comparison. There is an old Victorian across the street that survived. I was a block off the beach. There was an old mansion on the beach and then us. Between us the ground sloped down to a stream that ran between us. It was almost like a little oasis in the city.

My wife and I honeymooned on a cruise out of Barcelona.  We booked a hotel room the night before the cruise in Barcelona.  Unfortunately our flight got canceled so we didn’t arrive until the day of the cruise, so we got robbed of a day in Barcelona.  What I did see looked much like your photos.

I snipped a piece out of one of yours to illustrate the grittier side of the town.

Pickpockets in thunny Barthelona.  How rude.  My ex-wife and her girlfriend had been there and they would talk about it with that lisp - is that lisp typical in Spanish spoken there?  When they did that it made me think of the old joke about a doctor giving an annual examination to a girl, putting the stethoscope on her chest and saying "Big breaths", and she answers "Yeth, thank you".

Words cannot due justice to the astounding event which opened the 2006-07 season. Not only was it the earliest event by far (two weeks) of the over 120  in the 13- year record of our lake effect archive…but it was the most unique in regards to destruction of trees and power outages…directly because of its out of season factor. Almost a million residents of the Niagara Frontier lost power...some for as long as a week…and tree damage was the worst in memory…especially to the lush vegetation in the many historic parkways and parks in the Buffalo area.

The event was not particularly well forecasted…although its extreme parameters were noted all week and even mentioned six days ahead in forecast discussions. The depth of cold air was almost unprecedented for so early in the season and Lake Erie was a mild 62 degrees, three degrees above normal for October 12. Instability levels were dramatic with 850 mb to sfc delta –t’s of 24c or so…inversion levels were simply off the chart at 25k feet with omega and Cape values unprecedented for a lake effect event. The only question...and a big one…was whether the boundary layer could be cold enough to maintain snow with a flow off a 62 degree lake. It was initially assumed that there would just enough moderation for the bulk of this forecasted intense lake effect storm to fall as rain...with perhaps some graupel or wet snow inland…but by Thursday morning (12 th ) it was becoming marginal…and a Warning was issued early Thursday afternoon for 1-6” of wet snow, specifically because of the fact that most trees were still in full leaf….and the threat of serious damage and associated power outages.

The event began with lake effect rain during Thursday morning and midday…and enough cold air became entrained to change over the precipitation to wet snow in the Buffalo area by 3 pm. Still…little accumulation resulted for a few hours, but by 8-9 pm, reports of trees falling and power outages suddenly increased rapidly after 2-3” of snow, which was very wet and weighed down the trees. Conditions only worsened overnight with near constant thunder and lightning for a good 12 hours. Cloud tops reached an incredible 25-30k feet…about double we have previously observed in the worst events…this was directly attributed to the phenomenal uplift over the 62 degree lake.

The heaviest snowband set up across the North Towns Thursday evening…then drifted south to the south Towns around midnight…then lifted slightly to the city and eastern suburbs in the wee hours before lifting north across the North Towns again around daybreak and eventually to Niagara county Friday (13 th ) morning where it weakened and faded to rain as the dynamic cooling process faded and allowed the boundary layer to moderate.

It was apparent that the associated uplift and dynamic cooling was so strong that it overcame any attempt of boundary layer warming from the lake. There even may have been cooling near its edge because of this dynamic cooling as evident by lowering dew points at Cleveland, Erie and Dunkirk early in the event…perhaps a sign of air advecting into the lakeband from the land.

Even though plenty of damage resulted already in the first few inches, total snowfall in this event was simply unbelievable. 5 to 8 inches fell in the first phase of the event between 3 pm and midnight, but SWE ratio was around 6:1 or so…hence the terrific damage to trees and powerlines. The second phase featured slightly drier snow…maybe 12:1 but it piled up another foot in heaviest area…in just 4 hours or so.  The 22.6 inches recorded at the Buffalo airport not only blew away any October record (6” in 1909…only 4 falls of 2” or more in 100 yrs in October)….but was the 6 th   greatest snowfall ever at any time in Buffalo!

The crippling snows extended well across Genesee and Orleans counties, and pushed into extreme southern Niagara county...but there was a sharp cutoff to any damage, which ran along a line from Whitehaven Road on Grand Island to Wheatfield to Medina on the north, Leroy and Bergen on the east, and East Aurora and southern Hamburg on the south.

Governor Pataki declared a State Disaster Emergency in Erie, Genesee, Niagara and Orleans counties on Friday October 13. President Bush declared the four counties eligible for disaster assistance on October 24. (FEMA-1655-DR). By the beginning of December 2006, nearly $11 million in disaster grants and low-interest disaster loans were been approved. Over 400,000 National Grid and New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) customers lost power Thursday evening. Full restoration of power was not completed until 13 days after the storm with most regions being without power for about 5 days. Most area schools were closed for the entire week following the storm. One death was directly attributed to the storm. In Amherst, a man was clearing snow in his driveway when a tree limb broke off, fell and crushed him. Fourteen other deaths were indirectly storm-related. This number includes four people who died from carbon monoxide poisoning from the improper use of generators and kerosene heaters. Over two hundred were treated for exposure to carbon monoxide. Seventeen were treated for hypothermia. The seasonal timing and pre-conditions of the event only exacerbated the impacts. Only a couple inches of the heavy snow was needed to bring down the still fully leafed trees. In addition, the area had experienced a wet pattern prior to the storm. The wet ground made it easier for tree root systems to fail. Estimates to remove the debris from the storm is pegged at over $150 million. Over three million cubic yards of debris needed to be cleaned up. Local and State Departments of Transportation were not prepared for such an early storm. Most were still in paving mode and had not prepared their equipment to plow snow. The heavy snow also made driving even more difficult. About a hundred mile stretch of the Thruway was closed. Hundreds of motorists were stranded between Pembroke and Angola. Some of these people were stranded for twelve to eighteen hours. Other transportation issues included motorists not being prepared for winter driving and tractor trailers not using the proper fuel mix for the wintry weather. Most areas initiated driving bans and declared States of Emergency early in the onset of the storm.

Finally, all snow melted within about 48 to 60 hours with little flooding.

Looks like you had a fair amount of wood for your wood stove.

I guess I escaped that storm because I left Toronto on August 6 2006  and since Toronto and Buffalo are pretty close as the crow flies it must have affected Toronto as well.  Lake Erie is a fairly shallow lake, so it should not take a lot to change its temperature.

The event began with lake effect rain during Thursday morning and midday…and enough cold air became entrained to change over the precipitation to wet snow in the Buffalo area by 3 pm.

Lake Effect Snow is a manifestation of "Global Warming" despite its oxymoronic appearance. Large lakes that once froze in the winter, now remain liquid to well below the surface, so, when a frigid wind blows over such a surface, it pick up molecules of water which freeze in the 32 degree (or colder) air, and turns them to snow. Because of the volume of water such winds pick up and turn to snow, the lake effect snow storms are often much more voluminous than the traditional snows of the past.

I thought this might be of interest (and I'm not the nerd it makes me appear to be). I just like to know about stuff.

Think there are several at this point who have come to dislike the path that the GOP is taking, but, are rather afraid to speak out. Those that have are frowned upon by their fellow members. While some have dared to speak out, it is with the hope that things will be better all around once Trump is gone. When Trump began to unfairly turn against his own people they could not support him any longer.

There are many things about the Trump regime that I trulyndespise and that anger me deeply, but from the first second I heard about it, until now, the kidnapping and imprisonment of the children, especially with no intention or plan to ever reunite them with their families, has ENRAGED me beyond almost anything in my life.  I cannot stand it.  I have stated many times, and continue to firmly believe, that it is a crime against humanity, and that Trump and all those who created and carried out that heinous policy, should be prosecuted in the International Court of Justice (the World Court), or the U. S. courts, as appropriate.  No excuses or justfication for their criminal misconduct should be tolerated.  It is not my area of practice, but if needed, I would gladly volunteer my services as an attorney to make certain that justice is delivered to the perpetrators.

As far as Trump and Putin are concerned, I believe that there is serious criminality involved that needs to be tboroughly investigated, which was not done by Mueller.  Other individuals, including certain Republican politicians, and Trump family menbers and associates, may well be involved.
