Papilio glaucus, the eastern tiger swallowtail, is a species of butterfly native to eastern North America. It is one of the most familiar butterflies in the eastern United States, ranging north to southern Ontario, Canada, and is common in many different habitats.

She is really hard to get a picture of. When I tried to get in a better position to change the perspective a bit, (I thought that lower with some of the greens starting to come through the browns would be a nice foreground) she moved and came over to me... Gotta love 'em

It is amazingly difficult to pick her out once she has settled down. Hours have been spent looking for her. And then there she is, almost invariably behind you.
Evening...what a great photo..I miss that nose being shoved in your face at 3am checking to see if you are awake..
My collie Shona had a nick name of "long nose"..came in very handy prodding me..I miss her so much..

A short unedited video of my endler/shrimp tank with the waterfall. It continues to evolve...
I stole some dwarf sag (the short grassy plant in front) from the 40g above and put it in the 60g cube. I also ordered 3 pots of cyprus helferi (the tall grassy plant in the back) and put that in last night. I didn't see any green hair algae last night either, so I hope that phase is over.
you're about to be knee deep in guppies...
I'm going to have to start separating them. I'll put the females in the 40g here and separate out the males to the office tank. That will have to wait until June though.
I used to breed them to feed them to the carnivores in my other tanks to slow down their cannibalistic carnage...
I don't have any big fish that would eat them. Even the betta would probably ignore them like he does with the couple of shrimp left in his tank.
get one of those screened birthing tank inserts, but remove the mother after she pops or she will eat them. take my word for it, the other tank inhabitants will chase down the fry... my tiger barbs and angelfish loved them...
The pair of jewel cichlids I gave my sister last month just laid eggs! She's going to have 200 babies in a couple of days.
Update on the cichlid eggs - As sometimes happens with new fish pairs they ate the eggs.

Wow, GG, that was a real gift for an old weekend hippie from those 1960s. It's great to see all those images of Joni (who I never before heard her call herself or write the name "Joan"). She made the rounds of CSN&Y, and although she and Neil, both Canadians, were good friends, she brought David Crosby to my house, wanted to know how I felt about a few of her new songs, but he was such an asshole I couldn't wait for them to leave.
It's strange to see a whole article posted on the Weekend article, although I guess composers are creative and many of those mentioned were. However, it is a good way to have it last for a few days because I don't think a lot of NT members these days care much about the life we lived in the 1960s, and the music scene back then.
I had hair as long as I could grow it in the 60's and early 70's. I was really into the music, too. I still listen to a lot of our music from back then. I used to drive through Laurel Canyon a lot, or visit friends who lived there. I still drive through it occasionally to get over to town. I have a friend who until recently lived on Mulholland, so Laurel Canyon was convenient to his house.
I couldn't let my hair grow long cause I had mostly pretty conservative financially successful clients, but I did have actors, musicians and artists as clients as well.
I was a teenager. I moved to Berkeley for my last two years of college. I turned 21 after my first year there and cut my hair. Go figure.

Yes, nectar. It liked our garden and stayed for a nice long visit.

I can't see the lights from where we are now, but I did see them when I was at my lakeside home north of Toronto.

I took my golf cart to a friend's house to visit and when I came out there was Theo sitting in the passenger seat wanting to go for a ride. His owner was searching the neighborhood for him, he had learned to open the back door on their house and let himself out.
I couldn't take my boat out unless my dog Baillie would race ahead of me and jump into the bow. See?
Tell Theo he's got some love from the other side of the world as well.
