The Way Through The Woods

By   Rudyard Kipling

THEY shut the road through the woods
  Seventy years ago.
Weather and rain have undone it again,
And now you would never know
There was once a path through the woods
  Before they planted the trees:
It is underneath the coppice and heath,
  And the thin anemones.
  Only the keeper sees
That, where the ring-dove broods
And the badgers roll at ease,
There was once a road through the woods.

Yet, if you enter the woods
  Of a summer evening late,
When the night-air cools on the trout-ring’d pools
Where the otter whistles his mate
(They fear not men in the woods
  Because they see so few),
You will hear the beat of a horse’s feet
And the swish of a skirt in the dew,
  Steadily cantering through
The misty solitudes,
  As though they perfectly knew
The old lost road through the woods ...
But there is no road through the woods.

I get the same feeling looking at a fossil trace of a palm frond on a formation that has been uplifted to the vertical. Many impressions of what look like raindrops nearby.  Did the passing storm long ago knock the frond down?  A brief moment lost in time?

As a Native American, and like many others as well, nature plays a large part of my life. Mother Earth, Father Sky and Mother Nature all provide us with an excellent array events that affect our lives. Being one with Mother Earth and all those living beings that dwell upon her can open ones' eyes and mind to a better understanding of life itself.

Nature reminds us that Humans are only one living being here on Earth, and that we all depend on each other for our survival here on Earth. Each has their place in the act of survival, and Man alone cannot survive.

The beauty of Mother Earth provides us with a sense of joy and contentment, And never ceases to amaze us with the never ending wonders that are discovered that helps us better understand the world around us.

The beautiful pictures posted here for others to enjoy is a great resource for those who have never seen on their own. To share these great treasures helps us learn more about the wonders of Nature.

Thank you all for sharing. (smile)

"What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset."

Every so often, when conditions are just right, you can see little "diamonds" sparking in the snow in ever changing patterns as you walk.
