Sometimes, "reflection" of the serious thought or consideration" type, can metaphorically turn one's world upside down, like objects reflected on any number of reflective surfaces.
Post your creativity … imagery, poetry, philosophy, critique or commentary.
And...Debbie Downer Strikes, Again! So, score one for the perpetually pessimistic and eternally down trodding. Someone has to step on everyone's happy thoughts and denigrate all positivity and nobody can ever escape the Prophets of Imminent Doom and Infinite Depravity. I guess somebody has to be The Head Cheerleader For The Dark Side. So, congratulations on your lifelong assignment. It surely is a nasty job butt someone has to do it and you were head and shoulders above all others candidates and clearly the very best one for the job. Don't ever let your team down, again. So, Goooooo... Dark Side!
No harm was intended … speaking only for myself, the older I get, the more often I am somewhat unpleasantly surprised when seeing my reflection in the mirror.
Time is The Great Equalizer. The old guy I see in the mirror is still pretty handsome, as long as you considered Gabby Hays to be a real looker. I probably like The Man In The Mirror more now than when I was just a young whippersnapper. Youth was wasted on me. If I knew then what I know now I would have probably done a lot of things differently. Like maybe covering my head outside and using sunscreen. And, I would have been a lot nicer to the not so pretty girls. Looking back I am sure I could have been a better man. I tried though. I really tried. Hindsight is 20/20...
IMO, the cat fills part of the positive space to the left as the main subject and the picture she is holding takes up the majority of the positive space to the right. I guess what I am saying is that the cat provides overall balance.
AMac, I've found watching myself on video can be twice as bad. Today I played some music with some friends at a Presbyterian church. Two guitars basically playing rhythm and a pianist. One of my friends played guitar and sang a song. Iris, who is a black lady, sang like an angel. My friend did a pretty good job. The pianist is my friend's close friend and she is absolutely great, concert quality. I played poka dot lead, ha!!! Everything sounded pretty good. Iris, the singer is fantastic. The only thing bad was the DVD recording when I saw that stranger standing up there improvising and realized it was me.
One thing about seeing ourselves in pictures or on video, is that we see ourselves as others see us, that is, in a flipped horizontal view; our left is on the right and visa versus! While we may not be cognizant of this flip-flop, I think that perceptually, it must, to some degree, be disorienting.
And where the sound of our voices is concerned, it is at best, second generation and thus, less than familiar.
That swan photo cannot be matched. Did you sepia-tone it?
Kind words for which I thank you; the bird is a Cormorant but does, in silhouette, resemble a swan. The sunset colors are the actual ones; my fishing was interrupted by a thunderstorm which dissipated around sunset and the electrified atmosphere became a beautiful refractor of the light of the "magic hour".
Again a comment I posted disappeared. I'll try to repeat it here.
Strong leading lines leading to a point of focus, rule of thirds, shadows, a pleasant sky, sun's reflections on the water - a photo with many perfections.
When I saw your photo, and I had not scrolled down enough to see A.Mac's comment, I thought it was a perfect candidate for the Collaborative Arts Forum. It begs for a poetic interpretation.
1. Are those people standing in the water near the opposite shore, or are they tree stumps?
2. The people standing far out indicate that the shallowness of the lake extends like it did for the beach at the far west end of Lake Ontario where I used to swim when I was a kid.
3. Nice watch. And nice TO watch. LOL
4. Interesting perspective.
5. Did you crop that so as to not expose frontal nudity?
Unfortunately I was in the middle of a reply and as I scrolled up to make a formatting change MY ENTIRE POST VANISHED...too tired to re-post as it is 2:20AM here.
Okay take II. Hopefully this one doesn't zap out on me. In fact I think I will do this in a couple of shorter posts as I spent too much energy and time on the last one that disappeared into the ether-sphere.
Okay, much appreciated that you like the photos I post...I wouldn't be surprised if it is more my favourite subject...
1. Are those people standing in the water near the opposite shore, or are they tree stumps?
Pretty sure those are mostly pilings. The black sea has a history of rising, and is potentially the richest underwater museum and I could be mistaken, but I think it has been many hundreds of centuries since the water levels were low enough to support trees indigenous to the area to grow at that level.
The colours in that lagoon captivate me.
2. The people standing far out indicate that the shallowness of the lake extends like it did for the beach at the far west end of Lake Ontario where I used to swim when I was a kid.
Personally, in my mind, the Black Sea is an intriguing body of water, rich with ancient pre-history. Yes, in that area, as opposed to along the Anatolian border, the drop off slope is very slight. Yet, not far away, around the bend from there we have a photo of the stylish Natalya (Nat) with shipping lanes not too far off shore.
One of the most, or at least within the top 3, amorous photos I have of her. Her eyes are certainly the gateway to her soul. Though the colours of the photo do not reflect it, that is a special view through and into her green, emerald gates. The earth realigns around her.
5. Did you crop that so as to not expose frontal nudity?
No, It was just a good cut off point to avoid some interference to the far right. I don't have permission to show her in full bikini. However, she is wearing the same top as in photo #4 and here:
Okay take II. Hopefully this one doesn't zap out on me.
Dave,
If you're having trouble with posts disappearing (which sometimes happens here), here's a solution I use. After you finish your post and before you hit the "Post Your Comment" button, right click on the post and click "Select All" in the drop down. Then right click again and click "Copy" in that drop down. Then, if you wish, you can save it to a Word program in your computer. If you don't want to save it, just click the "Post" button, without touching the right clicker. If the post takes, you can just erase anything that you saved. If it disappears, just re do it using the saved post for copy/paste. That way, it only takes about ten seconds to re do the post.
Oh yeah, if that's happening to you regularly, it may be that something on the site has been updated. All you need to do then to stop it is clear the cache on your browser.
Thank you for that and yes, I have had that situation occur, but the last time was a couple years ago. Actually, I think it was Perrie who gave me very similar advice.
This was a different scenario and I hope if anyone reads this, that this scenario is different than what you have just described.
As the post grew longer I had to begin scrolling up to access the formatting controls then scroll down to continue writing. Toward the end, I scrolled back down and my post vanished. Gone. The back arrow could not get me back either.
It was gone. Done. Kaput.
I will try to keep my posts shorter by breaking them up in the future.
China has amazing bridges, some hold world records for one thing or another, and they are not only beautiful, but usually attractively lit up at night. This one crossed the river that runs through the city of Liuzhou, in Guanxi Zhang Autonomous Region.
The final photo was taken in a mature gated community around the corner from where we live. We often walk in it, and I've taken many photos there because the vegetation is plentiful and it is beautifully landscaped. Most of the photos of lotus blossoms that I have photographed are from there. There are attached housing and larger condo/apartment buildings there. That photo shows attached housing reflected in one of a chain of pools that bisects the area.
Yet again a comment I posted has disappeared although I took note that it did register on the site. What I had said was this:
Of all the photos I posted, the only one that was unique, and probably the opportunity for it could never be repeated (like 1stWarrior's bird drinking from tap photo below) is the one of the bird on the window sill, with the reflection in the window of the street below. I call it "Bird's Eye View".
I am wondering about the thoughts behind it's creation?
It sort of represents the Spirits of the two Clans of my Cherokee Family
My Maternal Clan of my Mother is the Bird Clan, and my Paternal Clan of my Father is the Wolf Clan. The person in between the two represents me, a combination of the two Clans into one Spirit.
BTW....that is not an actual picture of me. (smile)
Thank you Buzz. It is difficult being who I am in a way. The Wolf Clan is the more dominant and protective Clan of the Cherokee, and the Bird Clan is the more intellectual and inquisitive Clan. Putting the two of them together is trying enough, but, add that I am a full blown Scorpio to the mix and the 'real me' can sometimes change from day to day.
LOL. I have been closely acquainted with some Scorpios in my day, so I'm well aware of what you are saying. In my last comment, I was really thinking more of the pretty face than the wolf.
I was really thinking more of the pretty face than the wolf.
LOL!!! Thanks Buzz. I did a get a few 'Wolf' whistles in my day.
What was really trying growing up, was that my Mother and I were both Scorpios. My Birthday is Oct 39th, and hers is Nov 2nd. My poor Father often didn't stand a chance.
Thank you Perrie. I hope to bring a bit of the culture, traditions and religious beliefs of the various Native American Tribes. I am truly very glad that you enjoy them.
No need for such modesty although it becomes her; trust me, her photo speaks for her expertise … it took me many months and many tries to figure out how to get such a shot!
A reason to have your camera (or camera-installed cell phone) with you always. I doubt that the opportunity for a photo like that could ever be repeated.

Serious Reflections can get ugly:

Didn't you read this part ?
"Sometimes, "reflection" of the serious thought or consideration" type, can metaphorically turn one's world upside down."
Did I "Turn you upside down" JBB ?
Isn't art supposed to "Bring out Emotions" ?
No harm was intended … speaking only for myself, the older I get, the more often I am somewhat unpleasantly surprised when seeing my reflection in the mirror.
Me too ! Then other day I thought "Ugh, it's the magnifying side of my make-up mirror but it wasn't !

Digital photography is so unkind. Soft Focus is my friend...

Personally, when I saw it, I thought of the picture as an interesting reversal of the "Mirror, mirror, on the wall" scene from Sleeping Beauty.
That picture is disturbingly beautiful.
I wonder what the reason is for the cat in the bottom left corner. Any ideas?
IMO, the cat fills part of the positive space to the left as the main subject and the picture she is holding takes up the majority of the positive space to the right. I guess what I am saying is that the cat provides overall balance.

I agree with that, Buzz!
Beautiful and peaceful shot Mac. I love it.
I finally got a chance to test out the used 100mm lens I got recently.
Good results.
Thanks!
Love those cherries!

Thank you.

Hi, Pat. An evocative image, somehow creating a mood of melancholy.
When I saw your photo, and I had not scrolled down enough to see A.Mac's comment, I thought it was a perfect candidate for the Collaborative Arts Forum. It begs for a poetic interpretation.
Really nice composition.
Maybe it means 7:35.
Fish reflections
That wins a Gourami Award, EG.
Is that anything like a Gourmet award? (After all, fish are great food.)
(chuckle) Thanks.
LOL. Have you ever when watching your fish, wonder what they are "reflecting" upon?
I think it's pretty much all about food, sex and sleep, but I could be wrong.
Excellent image, stunning frame. There is something about the way the figures are posed that evokes ancient Egyptian drawings.
Thank you Buzz. I guess it depends on how the painter stages them for the painting.
RW, something of a Native American "Holy Trinity".
I guess you might say that, Mac.
Cooling reflections. Time for a dip.
AGAIN my comment disappeared - I'll repeat it.
Great photo Ender. Not only time for a dip, but also time for a sip.
This is so cute, I had to put it somewhere, so here it is.....

Lonely lagoon.
The marshes and sea.
Let's stay here forever.
Yes?
Goodnight sunshine.

REFLECTIONS: Night and Day
Beautiful reflections Buzz.
Great photos Buzz.
Can you give background details of the last 2 in particular?

Thank you for that insight Raven Wing.
You created an artful representation of you.
You are welcome, Dave. I am very glad that you like it.
Awesome picture Mac. Very serene and Spiritual. It is very calming and breathtaking.
That is an amazing shot. Well done!
TY Perrie - done by a cousin of mine in SD - yup - dat's snow.
I agree with Perrie, a totally awesome shot. Great timing!
That shot rates a “wow!!!”
I double that.
Passed that "Wow" on to my cuz - she said - "Aw, 'twus nuthin', but thank you".
No need for such modesty although it becomes her; trust me, her photo speaks for her expertise … it took me many months and many tries to figure out how to get such a shot!
