MOVIES & TV - CLASSIC to CURRENT

I have just finished watching this movie again.  I missed so much the very first time I watched it.  Like the whole mental illness issue.  I went into this movie thinking of it as a chick flick for me & my BFF to see together.  The second time I watched it I realized more about Vivi's issues.  I just didn't know it for what it was (I was thinking she was depressed & had a breakdown).  When I watched it with my daughter (psychology major - marriage & family therapist) she suggested borderline personality disorder or bi-polar disorder.  I have to wonder how many women back then were told (like the priest told her) "go home & suffer silently".  It was so sad.

I have been on message boards that have gotten very nasty about this movie & it startled me.  One person said there is no mental illness that these women should just shut their yaps and do their jobs.  Others not understanding the premise at all.  And still others that think women should just suck it up & be good mothers EVEN if they are not made out to be mothers.  Growing up with a mother that should never have had children, let me tell you it was no picnic.  It is time for this world to realize NOT ALL WOMEN ARE MEANT TO BE MOTHERS.

The damage we do to ourselves often leads to damage to others & that is something we should all look out for.  Vivi says to Sidda's fiance that she caused most of her own issues, but she has to realize that her issues caused a lot of her daughter's issues.

Let's watch some movies!!!!
