Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.
It would be wise to read this before trying the quiz....
I guess I was mistaken that the Oscar winners quiz would be a lot easier than my previous ones. Now this one could be a little harder because the questions were chosen from among the nominees for best picture Oscar that DIDN'T win, and there are about 4 or 5 times as many to choose from. The questions cover almost the whole years of the awards. Again, the most recent 3 years of awards are not included. So not only do you have the two image clues, but the third clue is that the movies are included in a list of famous movies that were good enough to be nominated. Go ahead and check the list on the internet if you wish (I do not consider it cheating) , and, as before, in many cases just identifying the images will tell you the title of the movie, but some images may be of an item or scenario that is a primary object or otherwise indicative of the plot or movie name, and you might have to have seen the movie to identify the movie. I don't think any were included in previous quizzes, although one or two could have been, but even if so I didn't use the same image clues, and as usual I don't think any of the image clues are actual screen shots from the movies. I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your movie memory, web searching using programs that identify movies from clues is cheating anyway (except in this case to just check out the list of the Oscar nominees).
TAKE NOTE: Only movies that were released up to 2017 will be acceptable, and since the quiz is specific for Oscar nominees, no alternatives will be considered. As well, since it is not impossible for you to find the actual movie names, I will be fairly strict in my scoring, so even if you guess the answer you should check the nominee list on the web to make sure it is the full and correct name. For example, you will lose a half mark if you do not say "The" if the movie name starts with that word, or if you make the title two words when it is only one, for example not "Brave Heart", but "Braveheart" Just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie. They should be a CLUE to the ACTUAL name of the movie.
Give it a try and NAME THESE MOVIES.

IT WOULD BE BEST TO READ THROUGH THE INTRODUCTION FIRST - IT WILL HELP YOU GET A BETTER SCORE. I have a feeling that the clues for this quiz are easier than the previous one, so I hope that all those who have tried these quizzes will give this one a shot. But, as always, remember....

I missed the last one. Thinking about the clues
reviewing - only a few of these do I get at first glance so it may take a couple of days to go thru the list.
man, this one is tough. I'm just not getting the images to make sence. I've only gotten 7 of them... oy
Thats funny, cause I got the majority of them in less than 15 minutes, and you always beat me on these things.
I wont say this one was easy, but sometimes the answer just jumps out at you and this was that time for me. .
You're going to do a lot of forehead slapping when you see the answers. They were all Oscar nominees, so they couldn't be that esoteric, and my method for clues is no different from before, and I've encouraged looking through the nominee list. Anyway, I'm closing the quiz tomorrow.
oh I have little doubt to that. Part of the problem is that work just going crazy right now. We're down 3 people on the team of 7 and we have a lot of extra work around database migrations and upgrades which have to be completed before Sept... Already working 80+ hour weeks ... I need to retire...
This has been up for three days, through the weekend, and only two members have participated. Even though I only have the answers from two, only one of the questions has not been correctly answered, so it's not that difficult.
Just sent my guesses. I looked up some of the names
Saw them. It was okay to look up the names.
ok, submitted my list. I don't have high hopes for this go-around but then it's only fair I lose one or two to give others the chance to shine.
LOL. You're so generous.
A week has gone by, so the quiz is now finished. Only 5 members have participated in this quiz. Kathleen takes the cake with 19 correct answers out of 20, Snuffy's in second place with 16, followed very closely by JohnRussell with 15 1/2 for the bronze, Honourable Mention goes to Vic Eldred with 10. Every question was answered by someone or other, so the quiz was not impossible. Here are the answers:
1. Wake Island - person waking up, and an island
2. The Pied Piper - person getting pie in face, and a bagpiper
3. The Snake Pit - snakes, and a person straight-jacketed in a padded cell
4. A Letter to Three Wives - man writing a letter, and 3 women
5. Father of the Bride - older man with lapel flower, and a bride
6. The Rose Tattoo - a rose, and a tattoo
7. Lillies of the Field - lillies, and a field - I'll accept spelling with one or two lls. (lillies, lilies) 8. Ship of Fools - an older passenger ship, and a bunch of people fooling around
9. Hello Dolly! - a person saying hello, and a pretty little doll
10. Cries and Whispers - people crying, and people whispering
11. A Passage to India - travel documents, and the Taj Mahal
12. The Killing Fields - a scene of killing, and a field
13. A Room With a View - a room, and a view through a window
14. Scent of a Woman - a cent, and a woman Just say the word "cent" out loud.
15. Gangs of New York - a couple of gangs facing off, and NYC
16. The Aviator - the Hollywood sign, and an airplane made of wood
17. Milk - a picture of milk, and the Golden Gate bridge
18. Midnight in Paris - clock tower at midnight, and Paris at night
19. American Sniper - America, and a sniping rifle
20. Lady Bird - a lady, and a bird
Now the question in my mind is what to do next. By using defined lists of movies such as the Oscar winners, and the Oscar nominees I've provided three clues for each question, but now only 5 players were interested, one or two of whom I had to chase after to play. So I wonder if the quizzes are too hard making playing them a frustrating experience or too easy making them no challenge at all (i.e, picture clues that actually hit you in the face with the title). For example, I just watched the movie Angels and Demons for the first time. It is a sort of follow-up of The DaVinci Code - Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), the symbol expert, gets involved with the choosing of a Pope, and it is also a murder mystery. What kind of clues do participants want - simple or challenge. But challenge means one probably has to see the movie in order for the clues to be meaningful. Here are the two ways I could do it. Either this...
1. Just name what the pictures are of
OR 2. The papal hat and a helicopter - both of importance to the story, and together most likely not of importance in any other movie.
So what to do? Any suggestions?
Since you are the one creating the clues, every one of them makes sense to you.
My only suggestion would be to stick to movies you think most people may have seen. I lose interest in it when I see the answers include multiple movies I have never heard of.
I tried t do that - used Oscar winners and Oscar nominees - the most famous movies, and they didn't get much interest, and how many times can I use Gone With the Wind, Casablanca and The Wizard of Oz?
hmmm, just a crazy thought but sometimes that's where my mind runs. Especially at 6:30am after a 16 hour work day and knowing I'm working again today...
What if you did a 20 question quiz with just four movies, but each question used different images. So from the above images, question 1 could be example 1, and question 4 could be the images from example 2. If people didn't know in advance I wonder if they would see it.
You mean so each movie would have 10 clues? Would that be a challenge?
yep... but I don't mind finding work for other people.. (I should be in management).
Or maybe 10 movies with 4 different clues? I don't know. But there's no rule that says you must have 20 discreet movies in the quiz.
Congrats to Kathleen for winning.....
Congrats to JR for the bronze...
I'm sorry, Buzz, but work was in the way last week and I didn't have much time to answer quetions
Between those who played and those who voiced regrets for not being able to this time there are enough to justify my contined effforts, but now, what should I do next tiem? I thought drawing from specific lists would act as a third clue, but it didn't help much.
