MOVIE QUIZ - WESTERNS

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.    POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.

PLEASE, PLEASE, READ WHAT IS BELOW IN ORDER TO GET A BETTER SCORE.    I HAVE DECIDED TO BE MUCH MORE LENIENT IN MY SCORING AND HAVE DONE AWAY WITH MANY OF THE RULES. .

This time, besides the two image clues, the third clue is that the movie must be a Western, although it could be combined with another genre like drama, musical or even comedy.  None of the movies are TOO old (is late 1940s too old?), and all of them appear on Best Western Movies lists. In some cases the answer is implicit from just the first clue, and there are more movies wherein just identifying the images will tell you the title of the movie, but as always, some clues are of an item or scenario that is a primary object in or otherwise indicative of the plot or movie name, and you will probably have to have seen the movie to identify it.  Some of the questions were included in previous quizzes, but even if so I tried not to use the same image clues, and as usual I don't think any of the image clues are actual screen shots from the movies.  I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your movie memory, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating, but once you think you know the answer there is nothing wrong with making sure it is correct.

THE RULES

As I was with the Romance Movie Quiz I'm being much more lenient and you will not lose score for not capitalizing or using proper punctuation or adding an extraneous or leaving off a "the" or "A" or punctuation, but I will have to make a decision between your just naming what the clues are and the actual movie name.  Just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie. The images should be a CLUE to the ACTUAL name of the movie.  Remakes of original movies with the same name will be acceptable.  If you name movies that I feel the clues identify as well or better than the ones I used, I will accept them as well.  TV programs and TV series such as West Wing are not answers, but I will accept TV movies like QB VII (which is an adaptation of a novel) or some miniseries if they are an adaptation of a novel that is too long for one showing and are spread out, like the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

There are some hard ones to guess, and also some very easy ones, so give it a try and NAME THESE MOVIES.

Please number your answers the same as the images.

Biographies did not go over well, romance was a little better, so I hope Westerns will attract more participants.  Let's hear from the Texans on this site.  I think that a lot of these questions are pretty easy to answer so I'm expecting some high scores here.  So come on movie watchers, give this one a try, but as always, please remember...

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN A COMMENT HERE, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.    POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

AND, If you want to be a winner, read the whole introduction at the top of the quiz.

yeah I'm going to take a pot shot at this one, but a couple of them are impossible...  I mean how many westerns have gold and mountains in them? dozens, gold panning, at least a half dozen right off the top of my head... anyone get that one right based upon the clues should buy some lotto tickets... {chuckle} their luck is running good...

Never mind I think I got it....

Yes you did, and in fact with only 4 members providing their answers so far, each one of the 20 movies has been identified correctly by one participant or another (although not one person got all of them right).  So, in my opinion, none of the questions are impossible to answer.

Anyone else who wants to play, do it soon.  I'll be closing this quiz 2 days from now.  Thinking about musicals for my next one.

It's now two days from when I said I would close the quiz so the quiz is now closed.  It did a little better than the Romance Movies Quiz in that this one got 10 participants, and except for one, everyone got at least a 50% passing score.  Top honours go to my friend movie maven Nowhere Man, who has returned from Eo to get a score of 19 out of 20.  Split Personality stood second with a score of 18, and Kathleen and Vic Eldred tied for third with 17 each. Honourable Mention goes to Snuffy with 16 out of 20.  Each of the questions was identified by at least a couple of the participants, so none were impossible.

My thanks to all for participating.  It's a shame more members of NT don't see fit to have the fun that you have told me these quizzes are even if you don't win a prize.

Next one will be Musicals.  I've already picked and saved the clues for it in my computer picture library so I will be posting it forthwith, and it's going to be easier than this one was.  All participants have already received the answers for this quiz, but I'm posting them so others can see that they probably could have done okay had they tried, so maybe the next one then....

1.  Cowboys & Aliens - cowboys & aliens
2.  Three Amigos! - Three Mexicans & silent movie symbols (The characters they played were originally silent movie actors.)
3.  The Horse Whisperer - a horse & a person whispering
4.  The Searchers - a person searching & a young girl in Indian clothes
5.  Blazing Saddles - a blazing fire & saddles
6.  High Noon - a clock showing noon & a sheriff's star on the ground
7.  One-Eyed Jacks - a Jack of spades & a jack of hearts
8.  Tombstone - a tombstone & thumb up okay sign (OK Corral)
9.  Red River - colour red & a river
10. Johnny Guitar - public washroom (the john) & a guitar
11. Stagecoach - a stagecoach & Indians attacking a stagecoach
12. Duel in the Sun - a duel & a sun
13. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - panning for gold & the Sierra Madre mountains
14. Paint Your Wagon - a painter painting & a wagons
15. Dodge City - a Dodge truck & a city scene
16. Bend of the River - a river with a bend & a wagon train
17. Blood on the Moon - blood & the moon (Blood Moon also ok)
18. Little Big Man - little and big men & child captured by Indians
19. A Fistful of Dollars - a fist clutching dollars & spaghetti (a spaghetti western)
