MOVIE QUIZ - FILMS DIRECTED BY STEVEN SPIELBERG
MOVIE QUIZ - FILMS DIRECTED BY STEVEN SPIELBERG
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN A COMMENT, HINT AT OR POST MOVIE NAMES OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, 'BUZZ of the ORIENT', AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can .
PLEASE, PLEASE, READ WHAT IS BELOW IN ORDER TO GET A BETTER SCORE. IT IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM PREVIOUS INTRODUCTIONS. I HAVE DECIDED TO BE MUCH MORE LENIENT IN MY SCORING AND HAVE DONE AWAY WITH MANY PREVIOUS RULES. .
For this quiz, besides the two image clues, the third clue, and requirement, is that the movie MUST be one which Steven Spielberg directed , regular or TV movie, and it could be any genre. Since Spielberg directed no more than 50 movies that limited number should help you to zero in on the answers. I recommend that you go over a list of movies that Spielberg directed and do not consider that to be cheating. None of the movies are very old and at least most of them were very popular movies with a good chance that you've seen them. I have seen almost all of these movies myself, so for a lot of them the clues could be of an item or scenario that is a primary object in or otherwise indicative of or important to the plot which will be a challenge to those who have not seen the movies. Quite a few of the movies were included in previous quizzes, but even if so I tried not to use the same image clues, and as usual I don't think any of the image clues are actual screen shots from the movies. I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your movie memory, web searching using web programs that identify movies from naming the clues is cheating (other than looking at a list of his movies), but once you think you know the answer I recommend that you check to make sure it is correct. Participants keep losing points because they fail to do that.
THE RULES
I am being much more lenient and you will not lose score for misspelling or not capitalizing or using proper punctuation or adding an extraneous or leaving off a "The" or "A", but I may have to make a decision between your just naming what the clues are and the actual movie name. Just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie, which is why I recommend that you check to make sure the name is correct, because the images may only be a CLUE to the ACTUAL name of the movie. The clues are for the limited list of movies and are therefor indicative of very specific moves so there is very little chance that I will accept alternatives. TV programs and TV series such as West Wing are NOT acceptable answers, but I will accept TV movies like QB VII (which is an adaptation of a novel) or some miniseries if they are an adaptation of a novel that is too long for one episode and are spread out, like the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
There are both hard ones to guess, and also easy ones, so give it a try and NAME THESE MOVIES.
Please number your answers the same as the images.

Does this include the direction of short films?
Any movie he directed. When I got to your message this morning I see that you've already posted your answers.

I don't think I'll post another quiz wherein the field of choice is so limited. So far It hasn't been much of a challenge, and only one question has made participants have to think out of the box.
This quiz will be closed and the winners announced in around 24 hours from now. Perhaps because it was so easy, and not much of a challenge is why only 6 have participated. If anyone still intends to submit answers, there is little time left.
I'll get busy with it this evening
Closing 13 hours from now.

The quiz ia now closed and here are the winners. Ten members participated and nine are in the winners' circle. Tied for first place with perfect scores of 20 correct answers are (in order of my receiving their submissions) Split Personality, Nowhere Man, Snuffy and Dig. In second place Veronica, Kathleen and Perrie each scored 19 out of 20, and coming in third is Gordy327 who scored 18 1/2. Honourable Mention goes to Charger 383 for his score of 18. Just missing by one point was Vic Eldred who had 17 correct answers, so everyone who played got great scores. Congratulations to all of you, this quiz got the highest average score of any quiz I created.
There was one tricky question which 5 of you missed, while the other 5 got it right. What all need to realize is that unless my clues are arranged to spell out the name of a movie, the first clue is always the more important one. Sometimes the first clue is the only one necessary to identify the movie. And so for number 14 a navy pilot photographed his CLOSE ENCOUNTER with a UFO, and no such circumstance existed in the movie Munich, and the second clue was a BRONZE Olympic medal, which is presented to the 3rd best athlete. Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind.
For all who did not want to have fun, because everyone who plays has fun, here are the answers:
1. West Side Story - dancing in the street & a story book
2. A. I. Artificial Intelligence - synonyms for "artificial" & an intelligent brain
3. Duel - truck following a car on a highway & truck going over a cliff (end of movie)
4. Empire of the Sun - Shanghai, where the story started & the sun
5. Amistad - picture of black slaves & a vintage court in session
6. Catch Me If You Can - cop trying to catch someone & pilot with female flight attendants
7. War Horse - war scene & a horse (easy one)
8. The Color Purple - a purple rose & Oprah Winfrey wearing purple
9. The Terminal - JFK Airport & man sleeping in airport terminal
10. The BFG - giants looking at a little girl & the Queen in her castle
11. Hook - a fishing hook & a pirate captain's hat
12. (Indiana Jones and the) Raiders of the Lost Ark - German Submarine & The Ark of the Covenant
13. Lincoln - a 1942 Lincoln Continental & the kind of hat Lincoln wore
14. Close Encounters of the Third Kind - a UFO & a bronze Olympic medal (3rd best)
15. Schindler's List - a metalworks factory & putting stones on a tombstone (as the movie ends)
16. Jaws - a jawbone & a beach warning sign
17. War of the Worlds - a devastated city & planets (worlds)
18. Saving Private Ryan - remaining 4th brother, rest killed & a Private's sleeve stripe
19. Jurassic Park - DNA (used to recreate dinasaurs) & a well known park
20. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - a phone & a home ("E.T. phone home")
I will not be creating a quiz wherein the list from which to choose is so limited again, and at this point I'm not sure what the topic will be. So everyone can have a little break and I will let you all know when I post the next quiz. I hope you all enjoyed doing this one.
Thanks Buzz - it was still fun.
