RETURN OF THE MOVIE QUIZ - FILM NOIR
RETURN OF THE MOVIE QUIZ - FILM NOIR
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS OR ANY HINT IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.
PLEASE, PLEASE, READ WHAT IS BELOW IN ORDER TO NOT MAKE MISTAKES AND TO GET A BETTER SCORE. YOU MUST COMPLY WITH WHAT i HAVE WRITTEN BELOW.
Because I am now able to access IMDb I have decided to try movies of a specific genre again. The genre this time is FILM NOIR . Not everyone is familiar with that name, so here is the definition of FILM NOIR by Merriam-Webster:
: a type of crime film featuring cynical malevolent characters in a sleazy setting and an ominous atmosphere that is conveyed by shadowy photography and foreboding background music.
Knowing that not everyone is that familiar with "Noir" films and in order to encourage as many of you as possible to get back into the game I've decided to make this a really easy quiz so all of the questions for this quiz are for movies that are on the IMDb list entitled "The 100 Best Film Noirs of All Time" Therefore, besides the two image clues, the third clue is that the movie MUST be one listed on that IMDb list. You may use the list to help you and match the clues to the movies on the list - here is a link to the IMDb list -> https://www.imdb.com/list/ls093637800/
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls093637800/
Most of the movies, being from a specific era, are not that recent, and could be 70 or 80 years old, and I have seen only 7 or 8 of them myself, so for most of them just decifering the clue images should give you a good idea what the movie is, but as always, some clues are of an item or scenario that is a primary object in or otherwise indicative of or important to the plot and you may have to have seen the movie (or at least have read a synopsis of the film) to identify the movie. I've used as few of the movies that have been included in previous quizzes as I could, and since those quizzes were a while ago I might have used the same or similar clues as before, but as usual I don't think any of the image clues are actual screen shots from the movies.
I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your movie memory or in this case the ability to decipher the clues and match them to the movies on the IMDb list, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating, but once you think you know the answer I recommend that you check to make sure it is correct. Participants keep losing points because they fail to do that.
Because most of these movies are from long ago I don't expect scores to be high so don't be embarrassed if you do not have the kind of scores you may have achieved previously.
THE RULES
I am being much more lenient and you will not lose score for not capitalizing or using proper punctuation or correct spelling or adding an extraneous or leaving off a "the" or "A", but I will have to make a decision between your just naming what the clues are and the actual movie name. Just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie, which is why I recommend that you check to make sure the name is correct, because the images may only be a CLUE to the ACTUAL name of the movie.
There are some hard ones to guess, and also some very easy ones, so give it a try and NAME THESE MOVIES.

It's movie quiz time again, and time to have some fun and challenge in order to put aside the tribulations of war and virus and inflation for a little while. As I have regained access to IMDb I have come up with a quiz restricted to a different genre than before - Film Noir. PLEASE read the quiz introduction above and you will find that you will be able to do better on this quiz than you think, because I have made it an easy one hoping to get those who want some fun and challenge to take their minds off of today's problems. Give it a try, but always remember...
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS OR ANY HINT IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
a favorite film genre of mine because there's lots of gratuitous sex and violence. I had to guess on quite a few titles but used the link to fix them.

thinking about the clues
hmmm, thinking about the movies
And my list sent in - can hardly wait to see what #7 is...
As far as film noir goes, the best of them was #7.
It's a matter of personal taste, perhaps, but in this case I agree with you.
I'm not that familiar with this genre. I've never been a fan really. I did upvote the article though.
Most of the clues are just image clues so if you just named them and then checked the IMDb list you would most likely still identify most of the movies.
Give it a try.
I didn't get very many of these. I'm better at movie trivia, I think.
What I just told MsAubrey would apply with you as well. By the way, great new avatar.
Thanks. It's the funko pop version of The Dark Wanderer from the computer game Diablo. I order one for myself and one for my son (he collects funko pops) in July of last year and only had it delivered a few weeks ago.
The quiz has been posted for 2 days and only 4 members have participated. All of them got very good scores, and every movie has been correctly identified by one or another so this is not an impossible quiz. In fact it's probably the easiest one I've posted for a long time. I hope more will give it a try.
I will try.
UPDATE:
Six members have tried this quiz at this point, and all have very high scores which tells me that it is NOT a hard quiz so other members should not be afraid to try it. Fifteen of the 20 questions were answered correctly by everyone, Three of them were answered correctly by 5 members, one question was answered correctly by 4 members and surprisingly one I thought everyone would get right was answered correctly by only half of those who participated.
In any event, I'm back in the game for a few reasons, recovering access to IMDb is one, the fun I had preparing this quiz as it was for others in another, and I'm getting really tired of the kind of topics recently on the Home (Front) Page.
I will close this quiz and announce the winners Sunday evening (American time) so there is still lots of time to participate.
Nine people thought very highly of it, yet only 6 have tried it?
Interesting.
???
I don't understand the reluctance of people to partake in something they evidently like enough to vote up.
Oh!!! I kept trying to figure out what you said from the numbers I indicated in my comment and couldn't put it together. I didn't even thnk about looking at the votes up, but if you recall, in my notice about the quiz, I told all the 19 members on my list to vote up the quiz article to keep it up front as long as possible even if they didn't intend to play, so some still did me that favour.
Evidently, they paid attention.
Come on people, get your answers in to Buzz. Let's get back to having some fun on this board.
I'll even help you fence-sitters out. The answer to question 9 and 3/4's is ..............oh shit, wrong genre... sorry folks.
but get your answers in...
I gave it a go

NOTICE: This quiz will be closed and the winners announced in around 11 hours from now.. Anyone still intending to participate should do so soon.
'Tis the 11th hour and so the time has come. Only seven have realized how easy this quiz was because of how I clued it, which is very disappointing. The winner, and first prize goes to Charger 383 who achieved a perfect 20 out of 20. Tied for second place are devangelical, Vic Eldred, Snuffy and Perrie all with scores of 19, and in third place are NowhereMan and Split Personality, both with scores of 18. All very high scores, so why didn't others try? Were they just afraid of the genre?
Thanks to all who participated - they make it worthwhile for me to have the fun of preparing the quizzes.
Now I don't know what genre to use for my next quiz since they might all be more esoteric than Film Noir. I was thinking about comedy, but when I went through the "best" lists they listed movies I never would have described as comedies. Anyway I'll take another look. For everyone who were too scared to actually try this quiz, here are the answers. Put the picture clues together with the names on the IMDb list, and you have the answers for most of them. Easy.
