GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME QUIZ
GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME QUIZ
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.
PLEASE, PLEASE , READ WHAT IS BELOW AND FOLLOW THE RULES IN ORDER TO GET FULL MARKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS. IT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST QUIZ.
This time, besides the two image clues, the third clue is, and REQUIRES , that the movie MUST be one of the movies on the IMDb list linked below of Top 100 Greatest Movies of All Time (The Ultimate List). Open and use the list to help you with your decisions and title accuracy. The release year of the movie is not necessary.

The movies are chosen from a broad era and some are very old classics, but most of them have been very popular and most people should be familiar with them. I have seen at least 18 of the 20 myself, and a few of them can be determined just from the images without having seen the movies but most will have clues that represent an item, fact, scenario or aspect that will require you to know the story or have seen the movie for the clues to be meaningful. Most of the movies were included in previous quizzes, but I tried in most cases to not use the same image clues, and as usual I don't think any of the image clues are actual screen shots from the movies. I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your knowledge of movies, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating, but I suggest that you review the IMDb list I linked.
Note that I never use the same movie more than once in the same quiz, and usually the order of the clues is important.
THE RULES
I am being fairly lenient in my scoring, and not overly concerned about spelling mistakes, punctuation, capitalizing or leaving out or adding an extraneous "A" or "The", but even if you guess the answer you should check the movie name on the 100 movie list to make sure it is the full and correct name. For example, you will lose a half mark if you make the title one word if it is two, or two words when it is only one. So just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie. As well, if you can convince me that my clues are equally or better indicative of a movie other than the one I've chosen, provided it is on the list linked above, I will accept that alternative as a good answer. Please also send only one answer for each question - I cannot score it if you provide alternatives.
Please number your answers the same as the questions.

Most of the movies in this quiz are considered classics, are relatively famous, highly regarded and fairly well known, even though some are very old. Therefore this quiz makes more use of clues that require your having seen the movie or be familiar with the story (keeping in mind of course, if a novel or story from which the movie was adapted differs from the movie the movie governs). This quiz will be open for a week and will close on Sunday evening at around 9:30 pm New York City time. So please READ THE WHOLE INTRODUCTION TO THE QUIZ, then give this one a try, but as always, please remember....
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT HERE, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Good one Buzz
I think most people have seen most of these movies.
will take some thinking
Bet you'll do well.
Good one Buzz, interesting clues.
And answers submitted. This was a good one Buzz
Received and scored. Thank you.
Very good, Buzz ... great clues!
Thanks, expecting that you'll do well.
Three have played so far, all with high scores. All of the questions have now been proven to be possible to answer. Wish more would consider this more fun than a political rant.
Fun Fact.......
The new HELLRAISER movie is being distributed by Hulu. Disney owns two-thirds of Hulu.
The new PINHEAD is a Disney Princess........
Movie news is always welcome.
bump back to the front page
Every little bump helps - a bump a day keeps the taunters away.
Here's my bump for today!
(Almost finished ... I have 2 more to go.)
And a bumpty-bump to get it back to the front page. Come on people, get your answers in....
I don't know when this one closes, but at this rate I may be doing a full bump and grind before the end... won't that be a horrid sight... hehe
Bumpty-bump to you, too, Snuffy! Sent my answers in today.
Buzz said he's closing this quiz down on Sunday around 9:30PM NY Eastern Time.
Cool, then I still have time for more bumps. Tomorrow's bump will be in the form of a question... hehe
As one of my son's Spanish teacher used to say ... Super bueno!
Answers received and scored.
Yep, around 3 days left, so hoping for a few more participants.
Bumpity-bump-bump (and grind?)
Ok, and the question. Who sang it? (it's an easy one, I don't have Buzz's skills with the tough questions)
I don't want to give away his name in my guess, so I'll do it with a bump and 2 photos!
ding ding ding ding ding...
and here's your kewpie doll....
All I can think of is Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)
I can't open your images. I'm having big problems with my computer so that may be the reason, but normally for me to see an image it cannot be copied from a web site and directly pasted here. It has to be copied to your picture library, then converted to jpeg or png if it is not already in that format, and then copied from your picture library and pasted here.
Roger DeBris from the 2005 The Producers.
Snuffy, please let's not mention ANY movie names or other hints while a quiz is still active, even if they could not possibly be answers.
Answers up...
Received and scored. Thank you.
This one had a couple of good ones, had to search the memory banks... I've seen them all....
I've seen 18 of them for sure, but there's a couple I just can't remember if I've seen or not. It might have been really long ago.
Submitted
Thank you. Received and scored.

Yes, got them and replied with your score.
Will try to get it in this evening
Okay.
Sent in
Received and scored - that makes 8 participants.
NOTICE: This quiz will be closed Sunday evening about 24 hours from now - i.e. at about 9:30 pm New York City time (which I think is correct if "Fall Back" hasn't screwed up the clocks yet). So you have one more day to get your answers in. Only seven have participated so far, and most said it was a really good quiz and had fun doing it.
Good Morning Everyone. Just a little reminder that you only have almost another 13 hours to submit your answers to this quiz - a quiz that most of those who have already played say it was a really good quiz and that it was fun. Why am I bothering, so many members on this site think that sticking it to those with a different political view is fun. Oh well.
The Quiz is now closed. Here are the results. Sharing the top spot with perfect scores of 20 out of 20 are Snuffy, Nowhere Man and Jasper2529. Tied for second place with a score of 19 correct are Vic Eldred and Veronica (the "Vs" have it) and coming in third are Split Personality, Kathleen and Perrie with a score of 18. Honourable mention goes to Raven Wing and Charger for posting a score of 16. Ten participants and they ALL got named in the Winner's Circle. Most considered it a good quiz, and most considered it fun. I am presently pondering what the next one will be, there are a few possibilities. The recent article about John Candy has made me consider movies combining a couple Canadian actors such as Candy and Anna Paquin, but we shall see. Thanks to all for participating, and here are the answers, naming the clues I posted:
1. Good Will Hunting - Will was a janitor at M.I.T. & a math genius
2. All Quiet on the Western Front - a man shushing & WW1 soldiers in the trenches
3. The Shawshank Redemption - a library & harmonica gift for Red
4. Singing in the Rain - dancing in the rain & a lamppost
5. Rocky - a rocky area & boxing gloves
6. The Wizard of Oz - a tornado & the wizard leaving in a balloon
7. The French Connection - main protagonist (Gene Hackman) was called Popeye & heroin
8. Ben-Hur - Roman ship rowed by slaves & 2 men on a wood raft
9. Rear Window - apartment windows & camera with telephoto lens
10. A Clockwork Orange - protagonist started as a prisoner & an orange
11. Some Like it Hot - Tony Curtis played Saxophone & Jack Lemmon played bass, both looking like women
12. Dances with Wolves - Costner named the wolf 2 socks & Wind in His Hair gave Costner his Lakota Sioux breastplate
13. Forrest Gump - he was a ping-pong champion & a shrimp boat captain
14. Jurassic Park - it was on an island & a prehistoric animal
15. Titanic - an iceberg & a lifeboat leaving behind a sinking ship
16. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington - corruption about a dam & the Capitol Building
17. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - a phone & outer space
18. My Fair Lady - a girl selling flowers & she becomes a sophisticated lady
19. Jaws - a summer beach scene & a shark fin
20. The Grapes of Wrath - a dustbowl scene & an overloaded truck
Thanks Buzz, it was a fun one.
Congrats to NWM and Jasper for coming in first, and congrats to everybody who played. Let's do it again soon.
Thank you, Snuffy. Looking forward to "bumping" into you on the next one!
You're welcome, Snuffy. Thanks for your loyalty to the quiz.
I'm sure both of you will be there.
