MOVIE QUIZ - WHOOPI GOLDBERG OR DENZEL WASHINGTON
MOVIE QUIZ - WHOOPI GOLDBERG OR DENZEL WASHINGTON
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.
PLEASE, PLEASE , READ WHAT IS BELOW FIRST AND FOLLOW THE RULES IN ORDER TO GET FULL MARKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS. IT IS ALWAYS A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST QUIZ.
This time, besides the two image clues, the third clue is and it is REQUIRED that the movie MUST be a movie in which Whoopi Goldberg or Denzel Washington acted. I have seen 11 of them myself. Many of the movies can be identified from just the images that often just spell out the title. However, others will still require you to either have watched the movies or be familiar with them because the clues will represent an item, fact, scenario or aspect that will require you to know the story or what the film is about. A few have been included in previous quizzes, but these are almost all new image clues, and as usual I don't think any of them are actual screen shots from the movies. I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your knowledge of movies, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating.
Note that I never use the same movie more than once in the same quiz, and usually the order of the clues is important.
THE RULES
I am being fairly lenient in my scoring, and not overly concerned about spelling mistakes, punctuation, capitalizing or leaving out or adding an extraneous "A" or "The", but even if you guess the answer you should check the movie name on the web to make sure it is the full and correct name. For example, you will lose a half mark if you make the title one word if it is two, or two words when it is only one because that means to me that you are not sure of the title. So just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie. As well, if you can convince me that my clues are equally as important for or better indicative of a movie other than the one I've chosen, provided it is one of the movies in which Whoopi Goldberg or Denzell Washington acted, I will accept that alternative as a good answer. In some previous quizzes I did accept alternatives. Please also send only one answer for each question - I cannot score it if you provide more than one movie per question.
Please number your answers the same as the questions.

Here we go again. Since it's Black History Month I decided to do a quiz with two well known black actors - Whoopi Goldberg and Denzel Washington. Let's see how well you can do with this one. The quiz will be open all week again, closing Sunday February 12th at around 9:30 p.m. New York time. So take a break from the usual political rants, ignore balloons in the sky, and have some fun, but remember always....
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT HERE, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Working (and bumping)
Bumping back into the lead. Still working, so far I know 1 for certain. But gosh darn it spending time with my granddaughter and being a bad influence to her is so much more fun.... hehe
No problem. Your granddaughter is more important than a quiz, but thanks for bumping.
Yes, thinking can be very helpful.
this one will take some thinking
Take your time, there's still lots of it.
Submitted
Received and scored, thank you.
I haven't been here very much for the past few days for health reasons, but I'm back. Thanks for another quiz, Buzz - great topic!
You're welcome. One day I'd like to do Asian actors, but there are too few and their movie lists are too short. Maybe one day Hollywood will do for them what they do for black actors.
Help!!!!. I just posted three new articles and I think I pushed this one off the Front (Home) Page.
Submitted.
Received and scored, thank you.
bumpy
Boy, it's hard to keep an article that isn't about politics up front;
Bumpy bump
A bump in need is a bump indeed.
Okay, okay the SOTU is over, balloons are old news now, and the quiz has been up for three days now. it's time to play and have some fun. Where is everybody? Surely the dearth of participation isn't a kind of bigotry.
Nope, now we have more classified docs held by Pence, a Pence subpoena, classified docs on a Maralogo Aide's laptop (think about that one)
and a second "balloon" shot down on the beaches of Northern Alaska.
All good here.
Okay, but is any of it FUN?
Only for the F22 pilots
Yeah, good target practice - a 200 ft high target at close range.
Never close range.
Find the best tone, lock, fire and bank away at speed.
It's career ending to damage an airframe from your own ordinance...
When it comes to shooting, S.P., I was my school's top marksman. 2 shots at each of 5 targets on a card - all bullseyes. Had I been the right age for a war that Canada was involved in I would have been a sniper. Here I am on my school's Games Day getting the Frances Malloch Gibson Memorial Trophy for Sharpshooting from his widow, the school's Headmaster looking on. This photo was published in my city's newspaper.
But, notwithstanding that, I despise guns, never had one (except a water pistol and cap gun when I was a little kid), never wanted one, and I'm really happy to not be living in a country where ordinary citizens have guns.
Ooops! Maybe I shouldn't have posted more articles. We're pushed off the Front (Home) Page again. But I post the articles I do to prove that there actually and incredibly is more to life than politics.
Bump?
Good question.
Since this quiz has been up for more than 4 days and only 2 members have participated, I'm beginning to think the topic was a mistake. Let's see what the weekend brings.
Answers submitted. Maybe this bump will get us onto the front page.
Answers received and scored. Thank you. Your bump did the trick, and maybe, hopefully, this one will help keep it there as there are still two more days left for stragglers to send me their answers, because we now have 4 participating, but that is still not enough to make me feel that my concept of honouring Black History Month is worth while.
It fell off the front page again. Here's another bump.
Thanks. Maybe there should be a limit put on the number of politics articles that are permitted on the Front (Home) Page at any one time in order to maintain space for a bigger variety of articles in order to make NT more attractive to potential members. At this point in time there are 12 politics-related articles our of a total of 23, i.e. more than half the articles are politics-related.
Actually, Jasper, articles don't fall off the Front (Home) Page, they are PUSHED off.
That's a good idea. Even the Headline Article is almost always political these days.
I wonder if Perrie is listening to this.
It's actually wandered off topic into meta
hasn't it?
Well, I'm not "calling out" because Perrie has posted here, and it's my article and the comments are relevant to the article and the group and its RED BOX RULES, but if I really have committed an NT sin you must already be aware that I would not resent it if the purported offensive comments are deleted and I'm ticketed for them. I will then simply make my point where it is permitted.
ln fact, perhaps every time I post "Received and scored" it could be META. Not so? When a member posts "bump" is it not META? Maybe I should post the quizzes on the META group so I and participants don't keep posting META-offending comments.
Answers and guesses sent in
Received and scored. Thank you.
NOTICE: In about 23 1/2 hours this quiz will be closed. Seven have participated so far, and most scores are quite high. All the questions have proven to be answerable. There is still time to play, but I have a feeling that the SuperBowl is going to take precedence.
My next quiz will not be on the same theme, but it will be on a currently more relevant one, espionage (Spy) movies. I think that leaving the quizzes open for a whole week is unnecessary, so from now on I will post quizzes in the middle of the week and close them on Sunday evenings in order to allow for participants to have the weekends when they should have more time to play.
However, there is still time to do this one.
We need a full week
Oh, come on now, charger. Only this quiz and the previous one were open that long. Normally they were not open more than 4 or 5 days. I'll give it 5 days ending on Sunday evening, which means you get more than the whole weekend to do it.
Done and sent.
Received and scored. Thank you.
Ooooops, sorry, got involved elsewhere, but here goes...
Time is up and another quiz bites the dust. As it got closer to closing time more players emerged making a total of 8. Lots of ties in the Winners' Circle this time. Split Personality and Jasper2529 tied for first place with perfect 20 out of 20 scores. charger 383 and Perrie took second place with tied scores of 19 each, Kathleen and Veronica came in third each with scores of 18, and Honourable Mention goes to Vic Eldred who scored 17.
Although the topic turned out to be more popular than it started to look, I still intend to go ahead with the next quiz with a more popular theme these days - espionage, spy movies. However I will not post it immediately but in a couple days leaving at least 5 days, including going through the weekend. It is the regular participants like those in the Winner's Circle that maintain my enthusiasm in creating these quizzes, perhaps this new topic will be more attractive for the "only sometimes" players and who knows, might even draw in some fresh ones.
And now, for those with interests locked, here are the answers:
