AVIATION MOVIES QUIZ

 800

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.    POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.

PLEASE, PLEASE , READ WHAT IS BELOW FIRST AND FOLLOW THE RULES IN ORDER TO GET FULL MARKS FOR YOUR  ANSWERS.  IT IS ALWAYS A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST QUIZ.

This time, besides the two image clues, the third clue is and it is REQUIRED  that the movie MUST be one of the 125 movies on the BEST AVIATION FILMS list linked below.  Open and use that IMDb list to help you with finding the correct match to the clues and making sure of title accuracy.   Take note that there are 100 movies on the first page of the linked IMDb list and 25 on the second page.  The release year of the movie is not necessary.

(IMDb list LINK) -> https://www.imdb.com/list/ls003077955/?page=1&sort=list_order,asc&st_dt=&mode=detail

I have seen only 8 of the movies on the quiz myself so many of the titles should be easily identifiable by the clue images, and a lot of those are REALLY easy.   However, some will still require you to either have watched the movies or been familiar with them because the clues will represent an item, fact, scenario or aspect that will require you to have seen the movie or know the story.  I have included a few tricky clues this time.  Only a few of the movies have been included in previous quizzes, but these are almost all new image clues, and as usual I don't think any of them are actual screen shots from the movies.  I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your knowledge of movies, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating.

Note that I never use the same movie more than once in the same quiz, and usually the order of the clues is important.  A bit of advice.  Some clues might suggest more than one movie, so make sure you take BOTH clues into consideration.

THE RULES

I am being fairly lenient in my scoring, and not overly concerned about spelling mistakes, punctuation, capitalizing or leaving out or adding an extraneous "A" or "The", but even if you guess the answer you should check the movie name on the linked IMDb movie list to make sure it is the full and correct name.  For example, you will lose a half mark if you make the title one word if it is two, or two words when it is only one because that means to me that you are not sure of the title.  So just identifying the images does not necessarily mean to me that you know the name of the movie.  As well, if you can convince me that my clues are equally or better indicative of a movie other than the one I've chosen, provided it is one of the 125 movies on the IMDb list linked above , I will accept that alternative as a good answer, and I have accepted alternatives previously.  Please also send only one answer for each question - I cannot score it if you provide more than one movie per question.

Please number your answers the same as the questions

It's fitting, IMO, to post this topic taking into consideration the propensity these days for airplanes shooting down balloons.  Good thing the Wizard of Oz sailed away in his long ago, eh?  Since there are a lot of miltary movies in this quiz I hope those to whom I send notifications to that have been reluctant to have fun will take advantage of that opportunity now.  So lets hope for record participation, but please remember as always....

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT HERE, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.    POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

This quiz will be open for about 5 days and will close at around 9:30 p.m. New York City time Sunday March 5th.

Actually had this done yesterday morning when I check on my emails, but work piled up quickly on me, so I was to send them in last night, but a machine down job came in at closing time and worked three hours beyond the business day to help them out before todays snowstorm, so finally submitted.

Of all things, the snow storm, in which we were predicted to receive 12" or more prompting the rush to fix a tow truck, never materialized, all we got was a dusting.

Well no, this is Michigan and it's still winter, we have snow just not the 12 extra inches.  The snow we had is now melting fast today, it's sunny and warm and ended up working in a tee shirt outside getting firewood about 47 degrees.

Also a bump up.

Do you do swimming in ice water as well?

No, that would be stupid, the point of being able to stay comfortable outside in these temperatures is to stay dry, getting wet by either jumping into water or by sweating will chill you, so while working, the point is to not wear so much as to make yourself sweat.

Good Morning America.  You have all day today to submit your answers to the quiz until I close it this evening at about 9:30 p.m. New York City time.  Only six members have played, and a seventh promised to submit answers soon.  Looks like there won't be a double digit participation this time.

Time's up, the quiz is now closed.  Seven members played and all made it to the Winner's Circle.  Snuffy wins first prize with a perfect score of 20, and there is a 4 person tie for second place, each with a score of 19 - Dig, Perrie, charger 383 and Kathleen.  Coming in third is Split Personality who scored 18, and Honourable Mention goes to bccrane whose score was 17.  Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks for your consistent support of these quizzes.  The drop in the number of participants from the last quiz makes me feel that perhaps a new quiz every week is a bit much, so i'm going to give it a rest for a short time while I think of what topic to do next.

Now is the time and place to discuss this quiz or anything else concerning movie quizzes. And for those who did not want to have fun, here are the answers.

1.  A Gathering of Eagles - Book about the Cold War & eagles
2.  Flying Tigers - birds flying & tigers  (I have been to their museum in Chongqing and met with one of the original Chinese Flying Tigers pilots.)
3.  China Clipper - flag of China & manual hair clipper
4.  Air Force - Pearl Harbor after Japanese attack & a "Manilla" store
5.  Space Cowboys - a space scene & cowboys  (a giveaway question)
6.  Malta Story - view of Malta & a story book
7.  2001: A Space Odyssey - a monolith & Jupiter  (I've done this one before)
8.  Dragonfly Squadron - a dragonfly & map of Korea
9.  The Dam Busters - a dam & a bomb  (Nobody could miss this one)
10. Flight of the Phoenix - a desert & a phoenix bird
11. Aces High - The Four Aces quartet & Cheech & Chong stoned
12. The Hindenburg - a zeppelin & an explosion  (another gift question)
13. Hell's Angels - Hell & angels
14. Air Force One - Nike 'Air Force 1' brand shoes & a Boeing 747
15. Planes - a cropduster airplane & around the world
16. Island in the Sky - an island & a sky scene  (Nothing could be simpler)
17. The Tuskagee Airmen OR Red Tails (Either answer is correct) - black pilots (hopefully not from those movies) & WW2 fighter planes
18. The Lion Has Wings - a lion & wings  (Made me think of Buffalo wings)
19. Airplane! - a pretzel (movie poster airplane) & Shirley Temple ("Don't call me Shirley")  (One of the best set of clues I've ever done)
20. Behind Enemy Lines - person behind something & Bosnia

Ya know, Snufffy, different strokes for different folks.  Some people are into movies, some are into politics, some prefer having fun and testing their ability to meet pleasant challenges, others prefer pushing their politics onto others and use nastiness to feel superior.  Unfortunately new people who sign up to become members see the politics and not the fun and walk away.

Hi Jack, glad you stopped by.  Let me tell you a true story.  There is a member here who started doing the quizzes getting low single digit scores but he/she persevered, kept playing, did not give up, got to understand how I use clues, and followed my advice about using the lists I post in order to help, and he/she improved and now gets perfect and near perfect scores on the quizzes.  He/she knows that they are fun to do.  Keep trying.  Look at the answers I posted here and compare them with the quiz images and you will start to see how easy the quizzes really are.  Look at number 16 - an island and a sky, then look at the linked IMDb list and you will see the movie "Island in the Sky".   Look at the results that are posted - the lowest score was 17 out of 20 - it isn't as hard as it may seem at first glance.
