A photo of the one-year-old pup, alongside a photo of Snoopy, went viral on Instagram when shared by Doodle Dogs Club. Commenters have left more than 8,700 comments in four days since it was posted.
Bayley is a cross between an Old English Sheepdog with a Miniature Poodle, but the resemblance to the cartoon beagle was, to many users, remarkable.
While some users pointed out the difference in breeds, others wanted to know why the dog wasn’t actually named Snoopy.
“After googling ‘black and white beagles’ this dog looks more like snoopy than a beagle ever could!” wrote one user.
The black and white pup has amassed 171,000 followers on her own Instagram, where photos of the dog smiling, sleeping and being its cartoonishly photogenic self are on full display.
Snoopy first appeared in the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip in Oct. 1950 and embedded itself in American culture over ensuing decades. The melancholic cartoon dog has appeared on TV holiday specials, movies, books and countless merchandise. He’s described in his Peanut’s bio page as ”a book lover and a book writer. He is a collector of fine art and a root beer connoisseur.”
Most recently, NASA’s Artemis moon mission featured a Snoopy doll to promote the mission and engage young STEM students. Their long-running partnership dates back to early 1967 .
