ANTHONY HOPKINS AND/OR HELEN MIRREN CINEMA QUIZ

 800

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, ANY MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES, MOVIE QUOTES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.    POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.

PLEASE, PLEASE , READ WHAT IS BELOW FIRST AND FOLLOW THE RULES IN ORDER TO GET FULL MARKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS.  IT IS ALWAYS A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST QUIZ.

Back to combining the films of an actor and an actress, and as before you didn't have to see those movies because all the answers are either obvious from the clues or they can be found on the two linked IMDb  movie lists below this paragraph, or a mix of both.  As usual, besides the two image clues, the third clue is and it is REQUIRED   that the movie MUST   be a movie listed on the linked  IMDb movie lists of either 64 Anthony Hopkins movies or 21 Helen Mirren movies following this paragraph.  I think I have seen only four of the movies on this quiz that I can remember, so, as always, some of the movies can be identified from just the images that often just spell out the title, and some may require you to do some studying of the linked IMDb  movie list to find the answers or else it's a mix of both.  I don't think any of the clues are actual screen shots from the movies.  I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your knowledge of movies, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating.

Anthony Hopkins Movie List (IMDb)  LINK -> https://www.imdb.com/list/ls076380033/

Helen Mirren Movies (IMDb) LINK -> https://www.imdb.com/list/ls068252403/

Note that I never use the same movie more than once in the same quiz, and usually the order of the clues is important

THE RULES

I am being fairly lenient in my scoring, and not overly concerned about spelling mistakes, obvious typos, punctuation, capitalizing or leaving out or adding an extraneous "A" or "The", but especially if you guess the answer you should check the movie name on the linked lists or web to make sure it is the full and correct name .    For example, and this will be important for all my quizzes, you will lose a half mark if you make the title one word if it is two, or two words when it is only one because that means to me that you are not sure of the title and you never checked your answer with the lists to make sure it is correct.  Just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie.  That is only one of the reasons why it is important for you to check your answers with the lists to make sure they are correct.    As well, if you can convince me that my clues are equally as relevant for or better indicative of a movie other than the one I've chosen, provided it is one of the movies on the IMDb lists linked above,  I will accept that alternative as a good answer.  In previous quizzes I did accept alternatives for the questions.  Please also send only one answer for each question - I cannot score it if you provide more than one movie name per question.

A number of times now a situation came up on previous quizzes where the movie list link I used came up with a different name than the one the participant got although it was the same link, so if that happens, and usually it is a foreign movie, please tell me when I score your answers. Be careful to use ONLY the lists linked above , because there may be other similar lists that will not have the same movies on them.

SPECIAL HINT FOR THOSE WHO BOTHER TO READ WHAT'S ABOVE

This is the biggest reason for wrong answers.  Although some of the movies can be identified by just one of the clues, some of the clues can apply to more than one movie on the quiz, so it is IMPORTANT to take BOTH clues into consideration.

Please number your answers the same as the questions.

Two Brits this time, both having been honoured by the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, but both have starred in many a Hollywood movie - Sir Anthony Hopkins and Dame Helen Mirren.  For this quiz I have used the British term "Cinema"  A couple of the questions could be a bit more challenging than previously, but certainly not impossible.  So let's see you start off the New Year with a little fun and give this one a try, but remember always...

As usual you will have a week to submit your answers.  This quiz will be closed on Wednesday January 10th, 2024, at about 10 p.m. New York City time

This quiz is now closed.  The response is disappointing.  At one time there were 11, then 10, then 9, then 8, then 7 and now 6 who have participated.  Although I send notifications to 18 who have at least at one time or another indicated some interest in or support for the quizzes, only the most dedicated remain active.  But I'm not surprised, because after all, what do I post that NT members care about?  A few days ago I posted an article on English Literature on my New Jane Austen Society group and it succeeded in attracting one comment before it was wiped off the Front (Home) Page in a day.  At that time I also posted an article about nutrition - why eating eggs is actually a healthy thing to do and the fears about increasing cholesterol are not so valid as to be concerning, and it attracted one comment and was wiped off the Front (Home) Page within a day.  And also at that time I posted an article on the Creative Arts group about an amazing exhibition in which people can actually immerse themselves for an unforgettable experience and it gained only one comment and disappeared from the Front (Home) Page within a day.  Obviously literature, the arts and nutrition are of little interest around here, and now for a long time even movies "move" only a few people.

Anyway, obviously the NT "culture" is politics, so enough lamenting the situation and here are the winners of this quiz, with those achieving a perfect score 20 in order that they submitted answers being Snuffy, Dig and Veronica.  In second place sharing scores of 19 are Vic Eldred and Jasper2529.  Third place goes to charger 383 with a score of 18, and Honourable Mention goes to bccrane who at the last minute submitted only the answers to 4 questions he had time to do, all of which were correct.  I congratulate and thank all who participated.

Only because I know that whatever we post on NT can be seen by anyone in the world who searches on google or bing or other search engines, although it does not allow them to post anything unless they become members of NT, in the possibility that someone IS watching, and on their own guessing the answers, here are the answers to this quiz, along with identifying the clues.

  1.  Calendar Girls - a calendar & a hospital
  2.  Bobby - a bobby pin & the Los Angeles Ambassador Hotel
  3.  The Silence of the Lambs - a cannibal & skins
  4.  Green Fingers - a thumb with green background & a gardener
  5.  The Road to Wellville - a road & Kellogg's Corn Flakes
  6.  The Mask of Zorro - a mask & a thief
  7.  The Two Popes - a path & a Catholic church
  8.  Eye in the Sky - an eye & a sky scene
  9.  The Edge - baked Alaska & a Kodiak bear
  10. The Lion in Winter - a throne & a Christmas scene
  11. Fracture - a fractured bone & a lawyer
  12. 2010: The Year We Make Contact - U.S. and Russia flags & Jupiter
  13. Magic - a ventriloquist's dummy & romance
  14. The World's Fastest Indian - an Indian Motorcycle & the Bonneville Salt Flats
  15. Legends of the Fall - fall from a ladder & 3 brothers with father
  16. Where Are You - a male photographer & a female artist
  17. Freejack - a racing car driver & a brain (a mind)
  18. The Queen - Queen Elizabeth's crown & Princess Diana's funeral
  19. Red Dragon - the Tooth Fairy & Hannibal Lecter's mask
  20. A Bridge Too Far - a distant bridge & a Netherlands scene

Although I have all the parts for the next quiz ready to assemble, I've decided that for the time being my time is better spent watching movies than on the computer.  I'll probably post my new quiz eventually, and will as usual let everyone on my notifications list know when I do.  In the meantime, enjoy the front page articles here.
