CARY GRANT MOVIE QUIZ
CARY GRANT MOVIE QUIZ
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, ANY MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES, MOVIE QUOTES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.
PLEASE, PLEASE, READ WHAT IS BELOW FIRST AND FOLLOW THE RULES IN ORDER TO GET FULL MARKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS. IT IS ALWAYS A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST QUIZ.
Back to classic A-list actors, and Cary Grant certainly qualifies for that and is entitled to have a quiz to himself. As before you didn't have to see his movies because all the answers are either obvious from the clues or they can be found on the linked IMDb movie list below this paragraph, or a mix of both. As usual, besides the two image clues, the third clue is and it is REQUIRED that the movie MUST be a movie listed on the linked IMDb movie list of 73 Cary Grant movies following this paragraph. I have not used many of his most famous movies here because I've used them in previous quizzes and I think I have seen only 5 or 6 of the movies on this quiz that I can remember, so, as always, some of the movies can be identified from just the images that often just spell out the title, and some may require you to do some studying of the linked IMDb movie list to find the answers or else it's a mix of both. I don't think any of the clues are actual screen shots from the movies. I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your knowledge of movies, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating.
Cary Grant Movies List (IMDb) LINK -> https://www.imdb.com/list/ls005527848/
Be careful to use ONLY this particular linked list because there are similar lists that may not have the same movies listed.
Note that I never use the same movie more than once in the same quiz, and usually the order of the clues is important
THE RULES
I am being fairly lenient in my scoring, and not overly concerned about spelling mistakes, obvious typos, punctuation, capitalizing or leaving out or adding an extraneous "A" or "The", but especially if you guess the answer you should check the movie name on the linked lists or web to make sure it is the full and correct name. For example, and this will be important for all my quizzes, you will lose a half mark if you make the title one word if it is two, or two words when it is only one because that means to me that you are not sure of the title and you never checked your answer with the list to make sure it is correct. Just identifying the images does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie. That is only one of the reasons why it is important for you to check your answers with the lists to make sure they are correct. As well, if you can convince me that my clues are equally as relevant for or better indicative of a movie other than the one I've chosen, provided it is one of the movies on the IMDb list linked above, I will accept that alternative as a good answer. In previous quizzes I did accept alternatives for the questions. Please also send only one answer for each question - I cannot score it if you provide more than one movie name per question.
A few times now a situation came up on previous quizzes where the movie list link I used came up with a different name than the one the participant got although it was the same link, so if that happens, and usually it is a foreign movie, please tell me when I score your answers. Be careful to use ONLY the list linked above , because there are other similar lists that might not have the same movies or the same mini-synopses on them.
SPECIAL HINT FOR THOSE WHO BOTHER TO READ WHAT'S ABOVE
This is the biggest reason for wrong answers. Although some of the movies can be identified by just one of the clues, some of the clues can apply to more than one movie on the quiz, so it is IMPORTANT to take BOTH clues into consideration.
Please number your answers the same as the questions.

THE RETURN OF THE MOVIE QUIZ
Even though the news these days is so compelling, wars, politics, I decided to throw another quiz onto the wall and see what sticks. Cary Grant was a popular enough actor to be the subject for his own quiz, and although I've seen 11 of the movies on the linked list, 2 of them fairly recently, I have watched only 6 on the quiz. Many of his movies are pretty old, having been produced starting in the early 1930s. So let's see how many are going to give this one a try, because that will help me to decide what to do next. However, as always, please remember....
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, ANY MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES, MOVIE QUOTES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT HERE, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
This quiz will be open for a week, and closed at about 10 p.m. New York City time on January 31st.
Starting to think
Surely you haven't just STARTED to think - you must have been thinking ever since you woke up this morning. Okay, okay, I know what you mean.
Looking forward to this. I love Cary Grant!
Would you still love him if you knew his real name was Archibald Alec Leach?
Sounds like a Brit.
He was.
Yay... I have something to do on Sunday.
Glad to be of help.
Cool beans... a new quiz. Thanks Buzz!!
You're welcome.
A new quiz about one of my all-time favorite actors! I've been exhibiting movie quiz withdrawal symptoms, so thanks for this quiz, Buzz!
Dr. Buzz to the rescue.
Submitted.
A few of these made me want to go on a classic movie binge.
I've been on a classic movie binge for decades.
Buzz, have you ever done a classic sci fi movie quiz? You know, the ones that are worth watching just for how bad the special effects and most of the plots were?
that would be interesting
still working on this one
Lots of time.
I have done a sci-fi and fantasy quiz, and one day I will start repeating some of the ones I've already done, like war movies, etc. but I didn't want to repeat them too soon.
And submitted, thanks for the fun Buzz!!
Received and scored, thanks.
Saturday morning, time for a fun little quiz!!
Amid wars abroad and political battles at home I simply can't understand why more NT members can't find a tiny bit of their time to have some fun with a quiz that is more of a game than a quiz. There is some kind of massive sickness that blocks pleasure by means of welcomed pain.
I know, right! A little fun in an otherwise plain-Jane day should be considered a good step. It's not like these quizzes are hard, they are a lot of fun.
One doesn't need to see any of the movies to get a perfect score, that's why it's a game more than a quiz. There seems to be a general fear of culture on this site. So many members have their brains totally stuck on politics and trying to prove they're smarter than others.
Let's give this a bump
Appreciated as always.
Answered and submitted
Received and scored. Thank you.
Sent them in
Got them and scored them, thanks.
Before another political rant
Take the quiz on Cary Grant
Well, if they don't want to take a quiz on Cary Grant, then maybe they will take a quiz on Archibald Alexander Leach.
I read his bio on Wiki today. Sad childhood, but fascinating man and life! I learned that his middle name was originally Alec. He legally changed it to Alexander when he became a naturalized US citizen in 1942.
You have a choice of name
But still it's all the same
Didn't make a big difference since he was using the name Cary Grant.
It's easy and it's fun to play
So take a shot and make your day
HELP!!! We need a bump.
Take a break from the partisan crap and have some fun instead!
The situation here, Snuffy, is that the "partisan crap" is what's fun to most here.
Submitted. Thanks, Buzz!
Received and scored, thanks.
Cary Grant in (DELETED) (photos copied/pasted from Wikipedia)...
(PHOTOS DELETED)
2 things, Jasper. 1) I cannot open the photos copied from Wikipedia, and 2) I do not know if the photos could be hints for any of the answers. Therefore, my preference is that they do not appear on the comment wall for a quiz that is still open. As soon as the quiz is closed, go to town with whatever you want.
No problem, Buzz. All three photos were just studio photographs of Cary Grant from various times of his life - youth, middle age, elder years - and none were from movies. I forgot that you cannot access Wiki. Sorry!
Okay. It's all over soon enough now anyway.
Yes I did it, submitted.
If I can do it, with as little of time that I had, anyone can.
To save time and paper I just reused the last quiz list, in which I had only completed 4, and I even submitted those four last time, there is no shame in it because it is for fun and a good distraction.
Thank you, bc. Your answers have been received and scored, and if you were not embarrassed by submitting only 4 answers previously, you have absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about for your answers for this one.
LAST NOTICE: In a little more than 13 hours this quiz will be closed and the winners announced. At this point 8 members have participated, and the chickens on NT have not. Pwaaak, pwaaak, pwaaak!!!
Oh noes... only another 12 hours to go. Get your answers in....
Two hours to go at this point, but the fish aren't biting.
This quiz is now closed. Eight loyal players participated, and every one got a perfect 20 score. In order of submitting are Dig, Snuffy, Perrie, Vic Eldred, Veronica, charger 383, Jasper2529 and bccrane. Congratulations and thanks to all of you. I've decided that there has to be a little more challenge to the quiz in order to make it a worthwhile effort other than just a way to pass the time with a very simple exercise. As it is, is it any different than a jigsaw puzzle? The answers are there for the seeking. Let's see what the next quiz will be like. It will be posted within a hour or so. It will be one visual clue and the IMDb list only, and some will have required you to have seen the movie or know the story. But they are all famous classic movies, so you have probably seen them all, as I have.
Ooops. Forgot to post the answers:
Because our articles can be seen on the internet by the whole world, it is possible that there could be many players that we don't know about since non-members of NT are unable to post anything on NT. So in the hope that there are others who enjoy doing these quizzes as much as the loyal ones who submitted their answers, I think the posting of the answers is a good idea. I've already realized that it's useless to think that those who are stuck-on-politics could be capable of anything else.
If nobody is going to post any comments here, the results will remain unseen.
Congrats everybody. Thanks Buzz, this was definitely an easy quiz but a fun one.
The new one is not quite so easy.
Congratulations to all ... with a Thursday bump!
Thanks for bumping us back on the page.
