CLASSIC MOVIE QUIZ

800

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, ANY MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES, IMAGES, MOVIE QUOTES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT, OR   YOU WILL R UIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.     POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.

PLEASE, PLEASE , READ WHAT IS BELOW FIRST AND FOLLOW THE RULES IN ORDER TO GET FULL MARKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS.  THIS QUIZ IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST QUIZ.

Now for a change of pace.   ONE VISUAL CLUE ONLY .  However the clues either represent words or images that make the title obvious, or  they are an image of something of importance from the movie.  That means, for some of the questions, that you will either have had to see the movie or know the story well enough to identify the movie from the clue, which differs from the more recent previous quizzes.  In this quiz, but these movies are so famous that you have probably seen them.  Besides the visual clue, the second clue is and it is REQUIRED  that the movie MUST  be a movie listed on the linked IMDb  movie list of the Top 100 Greatest Movies of All Time (The Ultimate List) following this paragraph.  I have seen all of the movies on this quiz and many have already been used in previous quizzes, and I have used the same or similar clues for some of them as I had before.  I don't think any of the clues are actual screen shots from the movies.  I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your knowledge of movies, web searching using web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating.

Top 100 Greatest Movies of All Time (The Ultimate List) (IMDb) -> https://www.imdb.com/list/ls055592025/

Be careful to use ONLY  this particular linked list because there are similar lists that may not have the same movies listed.

Note that I never use the same movie more than once in the same quiz.

THE RULES

I am being fairly lenient in my scoring, and not overly concerned about spelling mistakes, obvious typos, punctuation, capitalizing or leaving out or adding an extraneous "A" or "The", but especially if you guess the answer you should check the movie name on the linked lists or web to make sure it is the full and correct name.   For example, and this will be important for all my quizzes, you will lose a half mark if you make the title one word if it is two, or two words when it is only one because that means to me that you are not sure of the title and you never checked your answer with the list to make sure it is correct.  Just identifying the image does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie.   That is only one of the reasons why it is important for you to check your answers with the lists to make sure they are correct.   As well, if you can convince me that my clues are equally as relevant for or better indicative of a movie other than the one I've chosen, provided it is one of the movies on the IMDb list linked above,  I will accept that alternative as a good answer.  In previous quizzes I did accept alternatives for the questions.  Please also send only one answer for each question - I cannot score it if you provide more than one movie name per question.

A few times now a situation came up on previous quizzes where the movie list link I used came up with a different name than the one the participant got although it was the same link, so if that happens, and usually it is a foreign movie, please tell me when I score your answers.

Please number your answers the same as the questions.

And here we go again, but this time only the one visual clue, and the movie must be one from the linked IMDb list.  Many of the movies have been used in previous quizzes, and in a few cases even the visual clue is one used before, but this is basically a test to see how you do with this quiz rather than the simple game that the quizzes had become.  They are all very famous movies, and the chances are you have seen most, if not all of them.  So let's see how you can do with this one, but remember, as always....

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, ANY MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES, IMAGES, MOVIE QUOTES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT HERE, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.  POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

This quiz will be closed on Wednesday January 7th at about 10 p.m. New York City time, so you will have a week to do it.

I have a theory as to why all the political posters on this site don't even look at a quiz like this and realize that since they've probably seen most of these famous movies and could guess the answers they are too chicken to do so because they think that if they make mistakes it would humiliate them because after all, whatever they post has to be "perfect".  Anyway, as I've said many times already, chacun a son gout, or for those ignorant of French, loosely, different strokes for different folks, because there are those here who take pride in their ability to one-up others with their 'superior' commentary and ability to 'put down' others.  Oh, wait, I think I just 'put down' some members here....

Just going down the list of clues, I believe I have guessed half of them without the movie list, the rest will take a little figuring.

The weather here is a little weird, this should be the coldest of the year, notwithstanding our usual January thaw, the snow has almost disappeared and their still talking warm through the next week.

That's why I don't want to move out of Michigan, the wife always brings up how cold it gets here and how nice it would be to move to Florida, I bring up that you can dress for the cold and be comfortable but you can't undress for the heat and be comfortable, you can only go so far and your still uncomfortable.

People, I tell  you...   If God had expected us to live in -20 degree weather and like it, he would have built us differently with a lot more fur on our bodies.  I grew up in Wisconsin where below freezing was common-place. When I turned 18, I ran away to the military as it was the easiest way to get out of Wisconsin. And it worked, had "really tough" duty stations such as Myrtle Beach, SC.  LOL

I actually wanted to join the military, family tradition and all. And while I could have gone on to college, my high school years were not conducive to continuing on right away. High school was way too easy, never had to do homework and just aced tests. I knew I needed to grow up before I could put myself down to the work that college requires (or at least did back then). So I took advantage of the military to give me the time to grow up and it gave me the advantage of that old GI Bill. Ahhh, good times.

While all branches of the military are not meeting their enlistment goals, Mark would need to want to join and as he's your son rather than your grandson I suspect he may not meet the age requirements anymore.

I tend to agree, it gets cold one can always add a layer or throw more wood on the fire, it gets hot you can only take so much off and then it gets illegal or indecent.

My trip to the gulf was my first real out of the country vacation in 40 yrs, even though it was short, I could see myself doing it more, and since I am now just coming into accepted retirement age,and I have the money to be able to at a whim, I just might.

A bit less than 4 hours left to closing, and we're off the page.  I guess it doesn't matter, I think that everyone who wants to enjoy the fun of playing this game has already done so.

Just a suggestion, you may not want to start the next quiz right away. The Superbowl (American football championship for those who don't follow) is this weekend and there are probably several of us who won't be available to work the quiz. I head out of town tomorrow and won't be back till Tuesday night and no I am not going to Vegas to watch the game in person. Way too many crazies gonna be in Vegas this weekend.

I think you are right.  Because I have already put the new quiz together and need only click the link to post it I don't want to waste the work I've done putting it together, so what I will do is post the new quiz in about an hour when I post the results of this quiz, and extend the closing of the new quiz two extra days to Friday February 16th at about 10 p.m. New York time.

This quiz is now closed.  I'm happy to say that double digit participation has been reached again, and for the first time in a long while NOBODY got a perfect 20 score.  Could it have been because this quiz was a little more challenging than they have been for some time?  Anyway, the first place winners with scores of 19 were Dig, Kathleen, Snuffy and Jasper2529.  Veronica takes second place with a score of 18, while Perrie and bccrane share third place with scores of 17 and Honourable Mention goes to Vic Eldred and charger 383 who both scored 16.  A few of the questions were somewhat more of a problem for some, but the one that was a killer was number 18 - only 3 players got that one right.

Here are the answers for those who look but fear the challenge:

  1.  Chinatown - an American city Chinatown
  2.  The African Queen - a clipart image of an African Queen
  3.  Jaws - a number of jaws
  4.  One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - a bird flying over a nest
  5.  A Clockwork Orange - an orange
  6.  Forrest Gump - a shrimp cocktail
  7.  The Green Mile - an electric chair
  8.  E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial - moon behind a bike rider
  9.  The Wizard of Oz - Dorothy's ruby shoes
  10. The Shawshank Redemption - a rock hammer
  11. Raiders of the Lost Ark - snakes
  12. Casablanca - the winning roulette number 22
  13. Schindler's List - a little girl in a red coat
  14. Titanic - a big iceberg
  15. The Sound of Music - a person listening to music
  16. Psycho - a shower curtain
  17. Citizen Kane - a rosebud (Kane's last word - his childhood sled)
  18. The Graduate - plastics
  19. Sunset Boulevard - a sunset
  20. Midnight Cowboy - a cowboy with a starry sky background
