CHALLENGING MOVIE QUIZ
CHALLENGING MOVIE QUIZ
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS, ANY MOVIE OR ACTOR NAMES, IMAGES, MOVIE QUOTES OR EVEN A HINT IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.
Don't forget that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) and I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.
THIS TIME THE QUIZ IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHERS BEFORE IT SO PLEASE READ THE REST OF THIS INTRODUCTION AND RULES.
It's time for quizplayers to be given a little more of a challenge. This quiz will be almost all movies I have put on the quiz over the years, with only one picture clue, and NO IMDb list s. However, they are almost all movies with famous actors and in most cases very popular movies that you may well have seen. In fact I have seen ALL of the movies on this quiz. Many of the clues are repeats or similar to the ones that were used before when these movies were on a previous quiz, and only a few may be new so this can also be a test of your memory. This time, you might have had to have seen the movie, or know the story, or remember the clue from a previous quiz, or you might have to start checking movie articles or just plain figure it out. However, they are mostly pretty famous movies and almost all have famous actors/actresses in them. In other words, it will be very difficult to get a perfect score, even hard to get a high score at all, but don't be discouraged by that because it's unlikely that anyone will get a perfect 20 score, and besides, the next quiz is going to be a lot easier.
Because this quiz is a little more wide open than the others have been it is probable that there might be other movies that can be correctly identified by the clues so it will be necessary for me to be a little more liberal in accepting alternative answers, unless I do consider your guesses to be just too far fetched and/or I consider my clues to be a much better indication of the movie I've chosen than the one you propose. In previous quizzes I did accept alternative movies as okay answers.
I don't think any of the clues are actual screen shots from the movies. I try to use clues that do not make it easy to do a web search, and since this is a test of your knowledge of movies, web searching using google or web programs that identify movies from the clues is cheating. The real fun of the quiz is using the visual clue and doing a little research and trying to remember the movies you've seen or my previous quizzes that might provide the answers, so cheating just means you're a dishonest person, if that's what you want to think of yourself for the rest of your life.
Note that I never use the same movie more than once in the same quiz.
THE RULES
I am being fairly lenient in my scoring, and not overly concerned about spelling mistakes, obvious typos, punctuation, capitalizing or leaving out or adding an extraneous "A" or "The", but especially if you guess the answer you should check the movie name on the web to make sure it is the full and correct name . For example, and this will be important for all my quizzes, you will lose a half mark if you make the title one word if it is two, or two words when it is only one, leave out a word or add an extraneous one, because that means to me that you are not sure of the title and you never checked your answer with the list to make sure it is correct. Just identifying the image does not necessarily mean that you know the name of the movie. That is only one of the reasons why it is important for you to check your answers, and in this case as there is no list, on the web. Please also send only one answer for each question - I cannot score it if you post more than one movie name per question.
A few who played the quizzes previously had quit because of the rules. But I wish to ask if there is a game or quiz that does NOT have rules that must be followed?
Please number your answers the same as the questions.

It's about time I posted a more challenging quiz, and here it is - one picture clue per question and no movie lists to look at. However, most of the movies were very popular, and most have famous actors/actresses in them so chances are you may have seen them, and the clue is something important from the movie or could be a word in the title. As well I have used almost all of these movies in quizzes previously and in most cases the same clues, so this is also a test for the memories of the usual quizplayers. The quiz introduction is almost entirely different from before so it would be a mistake to ignore it. Now let's see your "real stuff", but as always...

This quiz will be open for a week and closed on April 5th at about 10 p.m. New York City time.
I will try it but don't expect I will get many right
If you have watched popular movies with famous actors over the years you may be surprised.
That's what I like about this one. It involves popular movies.
For people who watch a lot of movies, it shouldn't be too hard.
You always have 3 or 4 tough ones mixed in.
Yes I do. There has to be at least some challenge for players to reach a personal feeling of accomplishment.
Once again you happen to be right. As someone who has the same affliction, I welcome the challenge!
Better to be right up front than left behind. I think I just created an idiom. (Why is that word so close to the word "idiot"?)
We've had a long run.
These days I'm better off with a long walk.
I predict an interesting week here...
It's that ancient Chinese curse, we're living in interesting times.
Working on it, still have a couple to figure out.
Keep up the good work.
Sunday morning.. here's a tip for you on today.
Finding hidden Easter Eggs on Easter is good.
Finding hidden Easter Eggs on Christmas is not.
Thanks for the tip. I'll make sure I don't seek hidden Easter eggs next Christmas.
Early on Monday
Bump to stay on the Front Page

Thanks, I see we're there, to what avail?
OBITUARY OF THE MOVIE QUIZ
Taking note that for the first time that I can remember it has been three days and not one PN with answers has been received as yet, and notwithstanding my almost begging those I send notification to encouraging them to post what is needed to keep the quiz visible, very few comply, and perhaps more importantly I'm running out of ideas for the quiz, I'm sad to say that from now on I will be spending more time on my other groups such as Classic Cars and Boats, Confucius and Great Non-Political Articles and closing down the quiz . They have been at least as much fun for me to prepare as it has been for you to answer. Enjoy this one, it's the last one you'll see. Thanks to those who have supported it for its long lifetime.
Sorry to hear this but I understand. As for me not getting in my replies yet, I did spend a lot of time with family this weekend. Still have a couple to figure out.
Yes, I guess family comes first on Easter Weekend. April 1 does have a special meaning for some as well.
Buzz,
I never received an PN.
What Buzz means is there has been no one with the answers yet sending in a PN. I already know that what I will be sending is an incomplete list, but that's OK, I'll do my best.
My PN record shows your having received it. I have sent you a PN with a copy of it having gone to you.
Yes, that's what I meant.
Going down the clues, a few were easy, others I know the movie but the title escapes me, and the rest will take a bit of thinking.
Also a bump up.
If you can remember the actors in the movies that you forgot the names of, I'll give you a hint on a method to help you remember the movie names. Open a list of the movies of that particular actor/actress, and seeing the movie name might remind you. I don't consider that cheating.
Submitted with a few guess's. Thanks for the fun Buzz!
Received and scored, thanks.
It has come to my attention that some members did not understand that I posted that Movie Quiz "Obituary" on April 1st as an...
APRIL FOOLS DAY JOKE
Apparently I was pretty convincing. I have already chosen the actor/actress, the movies and the clues for the next quiz which I will be posting Monday evening when this quiz is closed. It will be much easier, in order to make up for this one, and some of the questions will have only one clue where they are pretty obvious, and two clues where they are not - in other words, a hybrid using the same method that you need not have to have seen the movies.
Yep, I didn't get the memo that the day was April 1 so I didn't get the joke either. Yep... what can I say. Retirement is GREAT!!!!
(but you do miss some things, like a calendar). hehe
Oh, and a Wednesday morning bump to stay on the Front Page.
When I'm sitting at my computer I have a calendar beside me with the days that are important such as birthdays, festivals, holidays, special days such as April Fools Day marked. At my age I don't leave things like that up to memory although I know I have an uncanny memory for my age.
The only calendar I use is the one in my cell phone and that I only use to record when I have appointments, dinners, meet with friends, etc. Just to remind me where I need to be on any given day when something is planned. Other than that, I don't think about what day of the week/month it is, just go with the flow. I spent so many years chained to a calendar that I'm really loving the freedom that comes from ignoring the date.
CLOSING IS EXTENDED TO MONDAY EVENING
Because the past weekend was a holiday weekend when many have either spent their time with family or travelled, I have decided to extend the closing of this quiz to Monday April 8th at about 10 p.m. New York Time. The new quiz, the movies of Angelina Jolie/Mark Wahlberg will be posted then.
Four days after posting the quiz only one member played - that is really unusual. It appears to me that this quiz is just too difficult for most. I guess not as many people watch the movies like I do. Almost all the movies on the quiz were very popular and almost all have famous popular actors/actresses in them but I guess very few people saw them. That means the movie quiz from now on will be not much of a quiz and more of just a game in order to draw enough players to make it worth while. So it deserves a new name, no more "Movie Quiz", from now on it is going to be....
Looked at the clues again but no new answers yet and will send in what I come up with
You've got all weekend to research and think about them. No rush needed.
Submitted.
Received and scored. Thank you.
It's Friday morning and the quiz is fun!!! All it's missing is you!!
Much too many NT members don't realize it. I'm beginning to get the feeling that many would be embarrassed if others see they're interested in something other than politics and guns Maybe it's because they're afraid they'll be ridiculed for not being perfect if they don't score well. There is a member on this site who started doing the quizzes with a single digit score, but it didn't stop him, and he worked hard at it, kept trying, got to understand my technique, persevered, and now gets perfect or near perfect scores, and I admire and respect him for that. I guess others don't have the guts to do that.
I'll submit my answers. I had them ready days ago.
Received and scored, thanks.
It's Saturday and time for some Fun!!! Get your answers in!!
Four have played so far, but there are still 2 more days for players to show their stuff.
And it's now Sunday, so today and tomorrow to play.
With only a day and a few hours to go before closing when 10 days have been given including two weekends for submitting answers and only 4 have actually submitted their answers I've realized that not as many people go to the movies or bother watching them, or if they do cannot remember much from them, as I mistakenly thought so from now on it will be games that can be played by anyone, not just those who go to the movies.
Sent in my answers and guesses. It was as labeled a challenging quiz and was as described, but good exercise for the brain and fun
Will play the upcoming movie game
Received and scored, thanks. I think it was the toughest quiz I've posted that I can remember.
It is the toughest challenges that are sometimes the most satisfying.
I consider that to absolutely be the right attitude, but from now on the game will not be anywhere near as challenging as this quiz was unless the usual players choose it to be so. In any event, 7 have played.
Whoa, I didn't realize I hadn't submitted what I had yet, then with a clear afternoon sky it started getting dark, I took that as an omen and submitted what I had, if this didn't work then I would've had to find a lamb.
Whew, just the quiz was all that was needed, it is getting lighter out.
Always liked how the eclipse plays with the light especially the shadows, they become so much sharper. The robins started their evening songs as well as other song birds. We also had the roosting flocks of birds take to the sky, the wind diminished, and, of all things, we were swarmed with mosquitoes and gnats. All this happened, where I'm at, with a 90% totality.
Yes, that is quite a good description of the effects of the eclipse. I wonder if it has any effect on the tides.
Yes, but the normal combined sun and moon higher and lower tides which is normal during full and new moons.
Why the lamb? Would it be to make a sacrifice, eat, or paint the lentils of your door with its blood? (Oh oh, was that a hint for a movie title?)
If you noticed I didn't even get that one right.
This quiz is now closed. And it was the most challenging one I have produced for a long time. Nobody was able to get a perfect score, but Dig wins with a score of 18 . Snuffy comes in second with 16 and Kathleen takes third place with 15. I'm a little amused that we find both Vic Eldred and JohnRussell together in the same boat (if they were they better not discuss politics), both achieving Honourable Mention with scores of 13. It was a quiz for those who know their movies, but from now on I will go back to the previous method of one or two visual clues and a list of movies to choose from. In other words, nobody is required to see the movies or even know the stories in order to get a perfect score. As it is really no longer a quiz it will be called a Movie Game, because a game is what it really is. My thanks to all who played, and congratulations to those who made the Winners' Circle.
Here are the answers for this quiz, with a description of the clues:
THE MOVIE GAME is now posted, it is about the movies of Angelina Jolie and/or Mark Wahlberg . In the event it is no longer visible on the Front (Home) Page, you can open it with this link: LINK ->
Congrats Dig, well done on your part.
And congrats to everyone, this was a harder quiz which I think made it even more fun. Thanks Buzz.
Harder ones may make it more fun, and more of a challenge might produce more of a feeling of accomplishment, but I think that just making it an easy game not requiring prior knowledge is more popular.
I've never seen five of the 20 movies and have never heard of the red turtle
The Red Turtle is one of the best anime movies I've ever seen and normally I don't particularly like anime movies. Not a word is spoken in the movie, and not a word NEEDS to be spoken in it, and I considered it quite moving. Most of the players got it right.
well, the clue was a drawing of a red turtle. I guess I thought that sounded too easy.
Never heard of the movie until yesterday.
The clue with the Eiffel Tower was too vague. I put down The Last Time I Saw Paris , which seems like a perfectly reasonable answer to me.
Yes, a red turtle - and all one had to say was "red turtle" and they would have been awarded the point. Four players got it correct.
The Eiffel tower is not made of gold, and everything is thicker than the real thing, so the clue is a model only of the Eiffel tower, not the real thing. If you never saw The Lavender Hill Mob the basic story is that Alec Guiness (not a B rated actor) and his mob stole a lot of gold in England and melted it down and molded Eiffel Tower souvenir models with it to export to France. The clue is a depiction of the souvenirs they produced. As "vague" as the clue may have been, four of the players got the answer correct so I consider the clue adequate to differentiate the movie from ones that just name Paris, or even the movie "Eiffel" itself.
I have heard its a good movie but I have never seen it, hence would not have made your connection.
You should watch it, it really is a worthwhile movie, and Guinness is at his best in it. That quiz required actually having seen relatively popular movies, so it really was a quiz.
